Jerry 'The King' Lawler to retire?

Capitan Gringo

The Ayatolah of Rock 'n' Rolla
With booker T's hiring as a commentator, and the removal of Matt Striker from Smackdown (as has been reported) will wrestlemania be the send off king has always wanted?

Also, with recent mix-ups in the commentator situation would you agree that a change is needed on RAW? Would you miss the king? And finally should Striker be seen as his natural successor?

I sure hope he retires. Good Lord, his commentary gets worse every week. His terrible one liners are getting to be worse than Cole fawning over the Miz's butt cheeks and bashing DBD's lifestyle. And him getting involved in people's feuds for no apparent reason... is well... getting old.

Let him have his WM moment, then send him packing. Don't replace him with Striker, though. Two heel commentators on one show would not work...

I think he should retire. I loved him when he was heel as he was my favorite announcer but now he seems boring and messes up very often. I am thinking he will retire at Wrestlemania because he has been involved so much lately. I am not sure if Striker will move to Raw because Josh Mathews is there, unless all three of them announce. I would much rather it be Mathews and COle by themselves though because they do not do a bad job. After all is said and done, King will probably retire and that is why WWE has been doing so much with him as of late.

If they are going to replace Jerry Lawler on commentary I have one person specifically in mind, Abraham Washington.
He was great in FCW on commentary and with the Abraham Washington show on ECW.

I think the King deserves a great send off and finally getting his Wrestlemania moment will be a great way to do it.

I like King, he's done of brilliant job over the years and is probably my favourite heel announcer of all time. But he did it in a non-annoying way, whenever he was sticking up for the heel during a match it was always hilarious. But perhaps having Jerry Lawler wrestle for the WWE Championship on a PPV, then have him wrestle his final match at WrestleMania would be a fitting way to send off one of the true greats. It would be a WrestleMania moment for sure, especially those like myself who grew up listening to him commentate every week for the past 10 years.

I wouldn't mind it if he did retire. But he is a decent counterbalance to Cole. I would miss him solely for nostalgia purposes, same as I do JR. But a WM victory for him would be an appropriate send off for the King.

I belive that at WM king will retire, and wwe will go back to how they use to announce where they would have the same announce team between both smackdown and raw, it'll probally consist of cole mathews and booker. This could also lead to a single roster because we see it all the time now where superstars from raw apear and wrestle on smackdown and vice versa with smackdown going to raw.

striker isnt really a heel. but as much as i use to like striker, he's lost his steam. he really hasnt been as good as he was. idk what it is. i'd prefer josh matthews or even scott stanford. but i just can't picture stanford commentating on a seriously storyline as he also seems so happy and grateful to be there lol

king hasn't been at his best either, but still, you gotta love king. he deserves this send off if it is his retiring.
and i'm glad he has been getting envolved, i mean yeah he's old, but if you think that miz made their tlc match good then you're just praisng miz a lil too much. i mean king really sold the moment when cole screwed him over. i actually felt really bad for him and got pissed at cole lol
but yeah this would be cool if king got his wm moment and retired.

King's not leaving. I think this is being built for a storyline at Wrestlemania where King can finally get his revenge on Cole without the "Sword of Damocles" hanging over his head about "hit me and you're fired" GM edict.

I'm guessing King/Riley at Wm where if King wins...he gets 5 minutes alone with Cole with no interference and no repercussions.

It wouldn't surprise me in one bit, It will most likely lead to a loser leaves between Cole and King at wrestlemania. And this is his send off, his first ever match at Wrestlemania. The guy deserves it that's for sure.

I don't think I will miss him, He isn't as half as good as what he used to be on the commentry table, but then again I didn't think I would miss JR until he returned for that one match a few months ago so I guess anything could be possible.

At least I can safely bet that I don't think he will be running off to TNA if and when he does actually retire.

I can see Cole costing Lawler the title to help Miz win again at EC then Cole vs Lawler at mania in a match where the loser is fired/leaves. Miz will help Cole win, and Lawler gets fired.

Well, thats what i want to see anyways, im so sick of Lawler on commentary, and i do not want to see him wrestle anymore...

It's quite likely that this will be his send off, and I think it's time for a change. I like Jerry, and I don't have a problem with his commentating, but I hate that he's starting to become Cole's bitch.

"Enough's Enough, and It's Time for A Change!!!"

And I do think Matt Striker is fit to become his successor. I don't know if it's just me, but I LOVE Matt Striker, but he's much better as a tweener announcer than a face- which is what they've turned him into on Smackdown the last month or so. Which is why I don't want him working with Cole. So I don't know how they're going to work it. Josh Matthews is the only announcer that I enjoy teaming with Cole. I'd much rather he take that spot if it's between those choices.

yeah the KING really needs to quit while he is a head a lil, He was at his prime in the early-mid 90's... now i think he is just a stupid wrestler like in the movie the WRESTLER who just wont Let go.. IF he is gonna fight anybody at wrestlemania it should be larry zbyszko n thats it... TIME FOR BURGER KING TO QUIT

I like King, he's done of brilliant job over the years and is probably my favourite heel announcer of all time.

just cuz your 19 i wont hate on you that much... greatest Heel announcer ill say is a joke. bobby the brain and jesse ventura are in a hole different level you missed out.. but who else was a heel announcer the coach, taz!!!

i hope he retires.... he is annoying and he sucks. i dont like how he gets in other wrestlers business and.... COLE MINER FOR LIFE!

I like Jerry Lawler and have very much appreciated his contributions to RAW, SmackDown and various PPVs.

But, his ship has sailed. If Jim Ross can step aside, so can Lawler. I think it is time for a change, and it has been time for awhile now. Jerry was/is a Legend and should be in the HOF for his announcing as well as his wrestling career.

When CM Punk was on the RAW team, I really enjoyed the change. I think that is really when I felt like Jerry should step aside.

Hopefully they take Jerry down on a high note. Something big at Wrestlemania would be great for him. I would like to see him wrestle in his first and last Mania match and win. Then in the weeks following WM, have him step out from behind the announcing table and let someone new have a shot.

I think somehow he should be able to get over on Cole and go out by winning the feud he has started with him.

I will be sad to see King go, but that is because King is familiar. I have always heard him commentate eve since I started watching wrestling. I wasn't there for Heenan and Ventura, hell even Mcmahon. I watch youtube but the effect isn't the same. I do wish him the best if he is leaving after Mania. Having him win at Mania would be the perfect send off and I think he really deserves it.

I'm from Memphis and a huge fan of The King and lemme tell you, Lawler is never gonna retire. He loves to wrestle and he does it outside of WWE at indy shows too. I think his commentary now is terrible but he can still show you hows it done in that ring. Guys like Evan Bourne can do all of ther flippity fancy moves but Lawler has always proven less is more and just having a little bit of ring psychology is all you need to tell a story in a match.

I don't think they should do another "Career" match if this is, in fact, Lawler's Wrestlemania send off. If he is going to retire...then Lawler should come out on Raw a couple weeks prior to Wrestlemania and tell the world: "You know...I've given it alot of thought, and after competing for the world title at Elimination Chamber...and now finally getting my Wrestlemania match (something I've waited my entire career for)...there's no way I can go back there (pointing to the announce table). So this is it for me...my time has come. Win, lose or draw...the King is leaving it all out in the ring one last time.

Then he can have his Wrestlemania moment and move on.

I can totally see that happening. Lawler would be a terrible heel commentator nowadays, and he's not as good as he once was. There's no more place for him. He'll get his one big 'Mania send off, then he'll ride off into the sunset, so to speak. Striker would be a fine replacement, but that would also make for some great unintentional comedy between Striker and Cole. It would certainly be an interesting dynamic. I don't know how I would like it, but maybe it would grow on me. It would take some getting used to, that's 100% for sure.
