Jeff Dunham is Not Funny

X

RIP Sgt. Michael Paranzino / RIP CM
Not even slightly. Why do people enjoy this man? Ventriloquism is probably the lowest form of comedy known to man. Apparently having a black puppet (who's an incredibly stereotypical pimp who talks in ebonics) make jokes about how white Jeff Dunham is is considered humor.

Someone please kill this man. Please.

And now Dunham is making fun of the ******ed with a mentally handicapped puppet. Yes, nothing is as funny as someone with a serious speech impediment.

God this man is a no-talent hack. The only reason I don't change the channel is that the remote is on the other side of the room. And I'm lazy.

And Jeff Dunham, I'm pretty sure after watching this so far, is a racist. And he hates the ******ed. And now he's just made fun of alcoholics as well. This guy is a laugh riot.

Yes, how uncommon of comedians to make fun of our culture...

I love Jeff Dunham. One of the funniest comedians out there.

Oh come on Sly! NOT YOU! How are you taken in by this guy's amateur hour act? He's worse then Dane Cook, his entire act relies on funny noises and silly faces.

If it is achmed the dead terrorist, I thought he was funny, but that's the only one I've seen.

Yes, that is what makes him a "ventriloquist".

And, no, he's no where NEAR as bad as that douchebag Dane Cook. The only time I've ever cheered or clapped for Dane Cook is when he says he's leaving.

Dunham has two good characters, Walter and Peanut. The others are just "meh".

Yeah I'm not huge on Dunham but he's a mile ahead of Cook. I love stand up comedy, but Cook is jsut awful.

Yes, that is what makes him a "ventriloquist".

Well, actually Sly, a good ventriloquist doesn't display silly faces; his face is emotionless so you can't see his lips moving.

What I mean is that his entire comedy routine doesn't rely on clever writing but rather on his puppets looking silly and making funny noises with the puppets. That, and he uses racial stereotypes for a good chunk of his routine, which is probably one of the lowest forms of comedy there is. I'm not saying that because it's offensive or something (I'm in no way offended by racial jokes), I'm saying it because this guys routine with the black pimp and the Mexican pepper are absolutely no different from a black comic coming up on stage and doing the ever-so-funny routine of "Black people do this---but white people do it like this! Ain't white people crazy?!". It requires almost no thought.

False.

A good ventriloquist makes you laugh. Hence, Jeff Duham.

No, his routine relies on giving his puppets an actual character, someone you immerse yourself in and find yourself thinking "wow, it's almost like it's real".

Again, Jeff Dunham.

You should try telling that to Chris Rock. Lord knows it never worked for him either...

False.

A good ventriloquist makes you laugh. Hence, Jeff Duham.

...Sly, are we honestly arguing over whether or not a good ventriloquist makes silly faces? A good ventriloquist doesn't move his face; thats not an opinion, thats a fact. The guy wouldn't be a very good ventriloquist if you could see his lips moving, now would he?

No, his routine relies on giving his puppets an actual character, someone you immerse yourself in and find yourself thinking "wow, it's almost like it's real".

Again, Jeff Dunham.

Are you kidding me? An actual character? I just watched this guy pick up a jalopeno pepper puppet which did nothing but say stereotypical Mexican things and try to sing a salsa song. My god, the character development---it's astounding.

You should try telling that to Chris Rock. Lord knows it never worked for him either...

I didn't say that racial stereotypes in comedy weren't popular. I said they don't require much of any thought, or creativity. Which is why I've always thought Chris Rock was extremely overrated. Though I do love his bit about raising the price of bullets---that was gold.

But, he's not making silly faces while doing his ventriloquism, only when he's actually in the act.

So, when his characters are talking, he's not making silly faces, just when its his turn to act. Which is comedy.

Are you kidding me? An actual character? I just watched this guy pick up a jalopeno pepper puppet which did nothing but say stereotypical Mexican things and try to sing a salsa song. My god, the character development---it's astounding.
Which is why I said WALTER AND PEANUT are the two best characters and everyone else is "meh".

Please pay attention.

I didn't say that racial stereotypes in comedy weren't popular. I said they don't require much of any thought, or creativity.
Neither does adding 3+3 together to get six, but it doesn't change the fact it works, now does it?

Is it not Dunham's job to make you laugh? Sure. And if people in general laugh at racial stereotypes, then he's doing his job.

It's a musician's "job" to make music. Does that mean all music is of equal quality? No. Popularity does not equal quality.

Jeff Dunham is a hack, with no creativity.

Jeff Dunham is a hack, with no creativity.
And this same "hack" wants people to put down their hard earned money to watch him and have him make them laugh.

And he does so, about as well as any comedian out there these days.

So, if Dunham is a hack because he makes more people laugh than just about any other comedian, who is not a hack?

Sly, you just said that Dane Cook is a bad comedian. And yet he's the most popular comedian currently on the face of the planet, selling out ridiculious stadiums across the country. And now you're arguing that Dunham is a good comedian because he's popular. Do you not see the flaw in this argument?

Fucking Andrew Dice Clay was the most popular comedian around for a short time, are we going to argue about whether or not he was a hack?

Sly do you just not believe in art or something? It's like your incapable of understanding how something that is monetarily successful could be of poor quality. Popularity does not, nor will it ever, define quality. And you're sitting here arguing that it does. You're wrong. That's ridiculious, and you've already contradicted yourself by saying Dane Cook is a bad comedian despite the fact that he's the most popular comic by far in America right now, and then saying that because Dunham is popular he's a good comic. Total contradiction.

So in order for something to be good it can't be popular too:headscratch:

What the fuck is the big deal, you don't find him funny, that's fine, but a lot of other people do find him funny, just because you don't like him doesn't mean he's a hack, it just means you don't like him nothing more

And when did I say that? Oh yeah, I didn't. You apparently just conjured that out of thin air.

Sly is arguing that BECAUSE he's popular, it mean's he's good. Popularity does not equal quality, and anyone with a brain realizes that.

What the fuck is the big deal, you don't find him funny, that's fine, but a lot of other people do find him funny, just because you don't like him doesn't mean he's a hack, it just means you don't like him nothing more

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that I myself created this thread. This is my thread; the title says pretty fucking clearly what my opinion is. If YOU don't like it, then why are you posting in here? This thread isn't about what other people's opinion of Jeff Dunham is; it's what MY opinion of Jeff Dunham is. Christ.

I'm going to flat out say first that Dunham is a hack, and admittedly awful. However, he's just doing the type of humor that I personally find funny, that is done better by better comedians. Dunham's stuff is probably tame to the comedians I like, i.e. Jim Norton, Louis CK, Stephen Lynch, and Bob Saget. I know you're going to assault my character, but whatever... they're hysterical.

Comedy is a form of escapism. If I laugh at a joke about sucking dick for crack, or a song by Stephen Lynch about the Special Olympics, for example, that's my prerogative, and I have every right to laugh about it. It's lowbrow, but I honestly don't care. And XFear complaining about Dunham doing ****** jokes is what is wrong with society. So what? He's just trying to get people to laugh. Denis Leary actually just came under a lot of controversy where a bunch of parents with Autistic kids got upset because he did an Autism joke. So what? His job as a comedian is to make people laugh, and if it goes to shock value, then so be it.
