Is Johnny Curtis Stealing Zack Ryder's Shtick?

Born To Fly

Occasional Pre-Show
Curtis has all of those vignettes going on with clever puns and I couldn't help but think of Zack Ryder during those. It seems as if Curtis is following Ryder's lead, but only Curtis gets to do it on TV.

Do you think the WWE saw what Ryder was doing and chose to write it in for Curtis? What do you think these vignettes add, if anything, to Smackdown?

Absolutley not

Zack Ryders a broski , and his humor is broski appropriate and original

Johnny Curtis makes the corniest jokes in the history of humanity

So hes not really stealing Zacks thing

Admittedly Curtis is complaining in a comedic way on a weekly basis about not being on TV , and Zack is doing the same thing on youtube (Cept Zacks actually funny and Curtis is corny as hell) so theres that but hes definately not ripping off his whole "shtick" (I hate that word lol)

I feel a paradox with Curtis coming on. Every week now he is featured on television, yet he runs the same ludicrous segment about ..not being on tv? Is that it? I must be missing something down the line seriously.

As for Ryder, his thing is just an injoke about how he feels regarding his career in the WWE. Curtis is just...weird. I suppose Curtis's character is trying to say he is tired of being held back while everyone else gets their time on Smackdown, and when he debuts he might as well go heel. I don't see this lame comedy act getting cheers.

I know Smack Down is over crowded with heels right now, but I think Johnny Curtis needs to be a heel. The corney jokes, he kind of looks a little cocky, he reminds me of that guy at work who tries way too hard to get everybody to like him. He is due a tag team title shot according to the NXT 4 storyline. I would bring him in with the corny gimmick have him go for the tag team titles and have Brodus Clay be his partner. They both came from the same season, you could have them both say they havn't been on TV like they should be, not do another Nexus, but a tag team similar to what Nexus originally was two young guys who feel they are being held back.

Curtis is complaining due to the fact that he's not getting a WWE Tag Team Championship match due to R-Truth's heel turn and seemingly the fact that Johnny is going to be used as a face. Curtis was only a face in FCW, he also played a face on NXT.

The reason for the small promos where he uses old comparisons to the terms, "ace in the hole," and "can't cut the mustard," is although quite corny, rather effective at the same time. He's getting noticed, and I'm yet to see one of his promos play without the crowd laughing, most likely at him.

No, Curtis is not stealing Zack Ryder's schtick, and I say this as a fan of both.

A.) Ryder's gimmick has so much more going on than JUST the visual puns.

B.) Curtis' puns are wayyy more subtle AND varied than Ryder's, while Ryder's puns follow this same formula every time...

- This is the WWE.
- This is <pun>
- This is Zack Ryder
- This is the WWE <pun> Zack Ryder.

Could WWE have been influenced by Zack Ryder on YouTube? It's absolutely possible and understandable. Sure, their jokes are different. But does that mean that WWE hasn't been influenced? WWE aren't going to allow the puns that Zack Ryder has been doing on TV. He talks about "drawing money" and being a "curtain jerker". That's breaking kayfabe a bit too much for WWE.

As for the vignettes, I love them. It's so effective and puts over Johnny Curtis' character so well. It's working for him because people are talking about him. Hell, after the first one, he was trending worldwide on Twitter. Not too shabby for someone making their debut in a backstage segment on a show which gets ratings below 2.0. Yes, his puns may be corny, but that doesn't stop them from being funny. Those to things are not exclusive from one another.

What the hell are you talking about?

There are several key differences that sperate Ryder from Curtis. Zack RYder does his jokes for a purpose. He uses it to express his feelings to what is happening on Raw, and he uses it to express how he feels. Johnny Curtis uses these strange puns in order to get either a laugh from some people or a headshake from the others. . Also the major difference is how they are taken into account by people watching. Ryder is notorious for doing comedy skits in his show and people except it and laugh henceforth the 100,000 views each week. When Curtis does it people simply either ignore it or say who gives a damn about this guy.

And No WWE is not imitating Ryder's show and putting it on for a Smackdown talent. Absolutely no. His promos are all of 30 seconds and it is one bad joke. Ryder does many things on his show not just comedy.

Truthfully I feel that these vignettes are making Curtis out to be a comedy jobber. He is trying to hype what he can do but I feel this will be an outlet for him to be a jobber.
