Is It Just Me, or Is WWE Focusing More On In-Ring Action?

As the title says, is it just me or is the wwe starting to focus more on the wrestling part of the product? It seems like everything is like in your face, like they're zoomed in to the action more then before, maybe different camera angles or new cameras? It's like almost every match is at a nice pace.

Something just seems different, but i don't no what, but i like what i'm seeing.

MODERATOR'S NOTE:
This is NOT a PG ERA vs. ATTITUDE ERA thread! Discuss the topic at hand, or your response will be deleted/infracted. One more time - this isn't Attitude vs. PG, we already have a thread on that.

Pretty much sure I saw a thread similar to this a couple of weeks ago. The WWE has always been Sports Entertainment. What's the sport? Professional Wrestling. Of course they need to focus on it big time. That's why most of the WWE TV shows are Wrestling. Because it actually matters and it always have.

Now the entertainment.. That's just something to add to make the Wrestling more fun to watch. All the storylines, promos, backstage interviews, in ring segments.. That's the entertainment part. So I'm not complaining if it's 60/40 between Wrestling and Entertainment cause without the Entertainment the WWE wouldn't be the world wide phenomenon it is today.

Agreed, the WWE has seemed better since HHH "took over". The women's division is actually getting kind of interesting (the Diva's Title match between Kelly & Beth was kind of interesting), obviously the Punk vs. Cena thing has been interesting, the stuff with Nash, etc.

I agree, the WWE just kinda feels "new" and exciting again. I know that HHH is only the on-screen COO, but things kinda turned around when he "took over" (as I already mentioned). With rumors of WWE's tag-division being revamped, and all this stuff going on with the WWE Title (among other storylines), the WWE's product has been better. Let's hope they stay on the incline!!

It's good to see, having more wrestling matches on TV helps the company alot and helps the wrestlers alot more aswell.
Giving guys more chances to show what they have in the ring helps build them and give them chances they need.
Smackdown! is better some weeks, due to the pure fact that they have alot of matches and it can be more entertaining than watching 2 or 3 matches in all.

Well what I can say is that the quality of matches on RAW and Smackdown! has improved. The superstars seem to be giving us much more exciting matches than the bore fests they used to give us before recent times, I'm actually starting to enjoy the matches, although I do wish superstars would pick up the pace and not walk around looking half dead during the middle of a match, to me that's what kills the excitement. I also wish that the wrestlers move sets were not so limited

The WWE has focused more on the wrestling aspect of their shows for over a year and a half now. In 2009, Raw was in shambles. Much of the air time was devoted to corny skits and lame joke promos. That's especially true in the second half of 2009. In the second half of 2009, it wasn't uncommon for there to be less than 10 minutes of actual wrestling during an episode of Raw.

That changed noticably in 2010 when the WWE cut back on the corny jokes and skits to a VAST degree. There'd still be one that would pop up every now and again, but the WWE really did a lot to get itself back on track last year by putting focus on actual wrestling matches and the storylines & promos involved. In 2011, there's been even less of the cutesy stuff. I can't really recall any corny skits or lame joke segments.

Most of the time on Raw, you'll get at least 2 competitive matches that least 10 minutes or more. Most of the time, most of the other wrestling on the show is at least solid. Those matches usually run about 5 minutes but they're usually a solid 5 minutes.

As far as wrestling content on Raw, I'm usually happy with it. Some weeks are going to be better than others of course and you'll have an episode now and again in which wrestling content is sort of sacrificed for the sake of promos and pushing storylines along.

Listen, I like having wrestling match's to kick off the show. In the past 4 weeks leading into SummerSlam, the first wrestling match wouldn't start 23 minutes into the show. So hey, let them wrestling. More action, less talk, makes for a better show I think.

I respectfully disagree. Okay, it's improved very slightly. But it's nothing compared to The Attitude Era and 2002 - 2008.
If we want product that WWE want for the PG rating, then revert back to 2008. It's NOT all story lines. 2008 was one of the best years because of the match quality. And that's what WWE need now.

Your kidding right? Punk and Cena have had 2 classic PPV matches in a row, Christian and Orton have been puttin on clinics for close to 3 months, Miz and Rey for the title was a great match. The wrestling in WWE hasnt been this good in forever. I am enjoying the product as a whole for the first time in well over 5 years.

And what the hell does PG have anything to do with a wrestling match? Oh let me guess you want blood in all your matches. If thats what you want then go watch TNA, because they have bloody matches every fucking week. Blood was way overdone and got to be boring, and WWE got away from it because it truelly isnt necessary in most matches. Some gimmick matches I think its almost needed, but Im going to take what I can get from Vince right now, but only because they have increased the value of what they are putting on TV overall.

erm. i shall respectfully disagree. the swagger match with a 5 person commentary team on raw last night, would suggest that they arent focusing more on the in ring action. that was a horrific clusterf***. the camera didnt even bother trying to pretend to be interested in the match. vickie and dolphs squabble over cowboy hats got more time.

There certainly has been better wrestling, and more of it. Just a shot in the dark here, but maybe that's because a quasi-active wrestler has taken a more involved role in the product. Triple H may be the catalyst in all of this. He grew his name and brand in the A######e Era*, why not sample somewhat from what made money back then? Just a theory.

*I didnt want to say attitude, it may start a riot.

Not really to be honest. There has always been a balance between in ring action and promos in the WWE. We're definitely seeing guys who are better in the ring than they were a while ago but I see no significant change.

There has always been a balance between the amount of entertainment and wrestling in WWE, lately it definitely has been more wrestling than entertainment which is definitely better for us wrestling fans. But there does need to be more entertainment on one show leading up to a PPV in my opinion. If there is more promos, backstage segments and interviews on a show it will sell the PPV because feuds will build up more than having matches so having one week where there is more entertainment would be good. Anyway WWE has been soo successful due to there balance between wrestling and entertainment, if there wasn't much entertainment casual fans would get bored and probably even wrestling fans would because in wrestling there needs to be storylines and without entertainment storylines can't build up. Then if there isn't much wrestling, wrestling fans won't be happy because they want to see wrestling, so it's always good to have a balance between wrestling and entertainment.

Yep, they are for sure focusing in on the wrestling aspect of the show and less on the soap opera aspect. Which is great and what gets wrestling fans like me back to watching Raw. Mic time is good, but there was a point in time where that's all WWE was pretty much, I still think they should combine both brands Raw and Smackdown to engage top stars with other tops stars..which makes for a great storyline.

I wonder a little bit if TNA bragging about having more wrestling didn't give the trend toward more matches on WWE shows a bit of a boost. Anyway, I generally feel like I'm watching a wrestling show now, which is good.

As for the skits and backstage action, I miss them--in a certain way. I would rather see more of that than the long in-ring/on-ramp promos where they just stand still. In the past week just having Punk bump into Steph backstage was more effective than if they would have gone out and cut promos on each other. More time-efficient, too. And that to me is the big advantage. A lot of times those quick exchanges say more than the promos do and take less time away from the ring.

I wonder--I seem to wonder a lot--if the reason they have had less of the backstage stuff is that people started asking why there happened to be cameras catching conversations backstage. Even as someone who prefers the bit to the promo, I remember asking myself why the camera was in someone's dressing room while they were discussing their secret strategy.
