In Case You Needed More Proof The GOP Doesn't Want To Do Anything

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
Boehner is going to hold a vote on legislation to repeal the Healthcare Act in 9 days.

Yes, I get that it's a partisan vote. Yes, I get that it's playing to the crowd. Yes, I get that Boehner knows that it has no chance of getting anywhere near passage in the Senate.

SO WHY DO IT??? Does he think this is going to gain him any popularity? Does he think this is good for anyone? Boehner spends every second he can complaining about the jobs numbers and all that jazz, so he's going to spend time trying to pass legislation that would eventually go to the person whose name is in the law's nickname?

Jobs jobs jobs right?

Because this isn't an attempt to make the GOP's base who is against the act happy? He is doing this for the same reason Obama claimed he supported gay marriage, to pander to their base. Neither will get what they want. Romney also said he would repeal it day 1.

I don't think this is a good strategic move for the GOP. It is clear what side everyone is on. They don't need to worry about exciting their base over this. The excitement is already there. By doing this the only new message is that the GOP would rather waste time then get anything done. Then again that isn't a "new" message.

KB's post is warranted, this doesn't make much sense.

His names Boner. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

And I can't blame him for doing this. He's just trying to protect his job. Make his constituents happy by doing something they will like. If he doesn't they will try to ouster him.

I'm thinking they might like a jobs bill a bit more.

Yeah, because the LGBT community is just flocking to vote for Mitt Romney.
And this has what to do with anything exactly?

It does seem like a waste of time, but I was saying the GOP is doing this to give their base the idea that they will do something about it. Not only that, but trying to lure others outside the direct base who are against it to vote for them. They don't want this to be another abortion debate, say you are against it and then do nothing about it.
It's political pandering and the GOP knows it. Come on KB it's an Election year. Gotta get the votes! Then again the illusion of choice is all but apparent.
I'd love to hear their excuse in non-election years. They spend all their time pandering instead of actually helping the country when it needs it, which is exactly what this is. I know both sides do it but the GOP does it WAY more often.

I know what you're saying and why they are doing it. I just don't think it will accomplish much strategically or poltically because the lines are already drawn. Everyone knows what side the GOP is on and if a person doesn't they are not paying enough attention to notice a symbolic vote that accomplishes nothing. In the end it could backfire because enough people (likely independents) will see it as a waste of time and effort and a distraction from the economy.

Legalized abortion is way too valuable to the GOP to do anything about it.

I meant that there are a lot of religious people on the right opposed to abortion, but no longer vote based on it because they don't feel it will ever be overturned. It is a useless point for them as very few really think anything will be done. That's the point behind actually doing something, to convince your base you actually can so it can be continually used as an election tool.

Update on this that I didn't know before:

The vote was held today, as I knew. What I didn't know is this is the thirty third time to vote on this since the law was put into effect.

Did the GOP really need to keep going with this after time, say, 17? Did they really think they needed to try it 16 more times just in case? If this isn't a waste of time, I'd like to know a better example of one.

I'm thinking they might like a jobs bill a bit more.

Why would they make jobs for a democratic president that is going to get all the credit for it?

The Democrats have really been pushing the "The GOP has tried to vote down Obamacare 33 times in the past X months" angle today. I hope it doesn't do more harm than good.

I'm assuming this isn't sarcasm even though it comes off as such. If not, I know this is an insane idea, but maybe because it wouldn't be hard to do and it would help the country out.

Republicans long ago quit caring about doing what's best for Americans. The fact Americans keep voting them into office show just how little they truly care for economical and diplomatic issues, and how much they care about social issues.

Republicans don't want to help the country out. They want power and money.

It was and it wasn't sarcastic. It wasn't because it's true, it was because it seems like the common sense and decent thing to do but the GOP isn't going to do it.

The GOP doesn't want to create jobs because they know it'll just go down as a victory for Obama and they don't really want to help the country if a black democrat gets the credit for it.

I wish they would just admit it's mainly because Obama is black. It would be so refreshing.

I think it's more because he's a democrat than because he's black. The fact that he's black is just an added slap in the face.

The GOP today is different from the one back then. Back then they were something resembling sane.

Not really...less insane, perhaps, but I wouldn't say sane. This is a party which used public money to throw the President's private sex life in the face of every American every night on national television, and then tried to claim how awful it was to expose our children to such a thing.

Sane is not a word I would use to describe them.

Notice I didn't say sane. I said something resembling sane.

Also while Gingrich was having an affair of his own. But he's been forgiven by God of that so it doesn't matter.
