If you could only play one game..

Simple thread by a stupid poster, if you could only play one game from now until Yellowstone erupts, what would it be?

Obviously a hard choice given that there is no greater pasttime, but I would personally choose Starcraft.

If you were around to witness Starcraft Vs A Link To The Past, you would know that I am an absolute mark for this game and truly feel that it is so far the greatest RTS created.

I would choose this because I know perfectly well that after a decade of gaming (though I admit, on and off, more on lately) I have not grown one bit tired of this game.

My one rule would be that I am allowed to go online on the tournament servers so that I may be able to play ranking matches whenever I desire. Despite playing for a decade since I was 8 or so, I am still rather average at the game, and absolutely terrible when using the Terrans.

Without any other game to distract me, which is the issue ive faced, I would use the time dedicated to only this game playing mainly online, perfecting all the strategies that are concieved every day. I suspect I would spend much of my off time on sites such as teamliquid.net watching Professional tournaments and looking to further enhance my gameplay.

Of course the alternative is I get frustrated with getting my ass kicked a few months in and give up on gaming forever, to be perfectly honest.. That would not be such a bad possibility :)

So its simple, if you could play only one game, what would it be? Why?

Ocarina of Time: Master Quest

Just because I love it so much. I would do everything in that game, all side-quests, all heart pieces, all upgrades etc. Then beat the game for real, and start a new file and do it all over again. I could NEVER tire of that game.

Plus with all the memories it has, I would relive my childhood with every playthrough, and that's worth more then the gameplay.

Final Fantasy 4. It's where my love for RPG's originally came from, and the one game that I never get sick of no matter how many times I play it. I've replayed it countless times since 1991 and it has yet to get stale to me. I pretty much have the game in its entirety memorized at this point to where I could play it mentally from beginning to end in my mind. I bet some of you might be surprised I didn't pick 7 instead of 4.... well, I do like them about equally, but 7 actually does get a little stale after a bit while 4 never does. Everyone has that one game they would play until the day they die and for me that game is Final Fantasy 4 because of the endless list of happy memories I have from that game.

If i could only play one game for the rest of my life it would have to be Gears Of War 2. I love that game it is so fun play and chainsawing people never gets old to me and getting a head shot with the sniper rifle and hearing the sound of there head exploding is like music to my ears. It is the funnest game to go online and play multiplayer it's the best online multiplayer experience of any game out there it's an amazing game.

I was tempted to pick one of my old Mario games on the N64. Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart are two of my favourite pastimes but, with Super Mario, when you've finished it, that's it. Also, Mario Kart would probably get boring eventually. So, I picked something completely unoriginal in GTA San Andreas. Not only is the story fantastic, but when you've finished that you can just carry on having fun. I'm not too sure I'd ever get bored playing this game, especially with cheats, if I played it in moderation. GTA IV was a really good game too but I think San Andreas is more fun.

Saints Row 2... plain and simple.

I love how the game is open world just like GTA, but there's so much more that you can do in this game. You can smoke, drink, do drugs and then go drive, kill people, and blow up houses. You have side missions where you can be a driver of an escort car. You can have sex with a random stranger at a gas station (even with the same sex at times). You can take over territories, and defend your own.

To me, Saints Row 2 is the best open world game out right now. I mean sure, the graphics aren't the best and the online play sucks, but the campaign alone has so much replay value that I just don't care about anything else.

Well hell. Someone took mine. Fuck it, I'll still pick it. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is my favorite game of all times. It's the best sandbox game ever and has so much to do, like: amazing story missions, an amazingly large map, 3 different cities to visit with 3 different feels, a large desert and forest with little oases-like towns and other assorted things, casinos to gamble in, gun challenges, gang wars, police missions, ambulance missions, firefighter missions, dating, driving various different vehicles schools, and just driving around having fun.

There isn't another game that can touch this game in amount of unending things to do. Not to mention the fact that there's myths to look into that keep you searching the game for hidden things and I myself, after playing the game since it came out, am still finding out new things about the game. There have been other games that try and be as good as San Andreas (see Saints Row) but don't do it like the original. This game will never run out of things to do for me, and is the best creation ever for me.

That's easy. Pez. Cherry Pez. No doubt about it. Wait...

All kidding aside? Probably WWE Day of Reckoning. I've spent so many hours on that thing that I should've been paid as a tester. Seriously. That game was so good that it was the cornerstone for Saturday night gaming wars with me and several of my buddies from work for nearly three years straight. This may have been due to the amount of custom CAWs I made (I filled up over ten full memory cards with them) and the fact that we'd have matches lasting up to an hour sometimes. For me, this was the only reason I still own a Cube. Matter of fact...I should probably buy a backup copy, just to be safe. I should go get one now...

I hear you. I was out of commission with a staph infection about two years ago and couldn't do anything except play video games to curb my anger induced by work. The funny thing is, I never even completed a single mission during a slew of several-hour stints with GTA:SA. I just ran from the cops like I was John Rambo or something. Flying bike cheats! Yes!

I thought about this for a bit, and I came to the conclusion that several of my favourites just do not have the entertainment value to keep me entertained for the end of time. Final Fantasy is great but after a while, it would be all done already. Pokemon games are great, but I get bored, especially after you beat the Elite 4.

I as well choose a Grand Theft Auto game. I however, choose Grand Theft Auto 3: Vice City. It was the first of the expanded GTA games that I ever played, and the sheer length of the game, counting rampages/and the other hidden gems of the game could keep me entertained for a long time. After winning the game, and getting to 100% I would gladly start back again.

Hey its John.

Someone said mine as well but I'm still gonan say it.

Gears of War 2.Mulitplayer is legendary.I love hearing people go crazy because I snipe them or chainsaw them.Campaign is also great except Insane is fuckin hard. The only bad thing is on multiplayer is when you play Horde(A game mode where you face 50 waves of enemies and the best way to win is to set up shields some enemies drop)and some jackass with no mike thinks his gonna run out of ammo so he kicks the shield down and runs out getting killed instantly. Then the enemies flood the base were you hide out and you all die because of them.

I'm going to have to go with the Spider-Man 2 game that was based on the movie for my PS2. I loved playing this game so much. Usually I don't like games based on movies because the majority of them suck, but this was a true gem. The story mode was pretty solid, the graphics were very good, and the game play was awesome. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan so this game was like a treat for me. Fighting Doc Ock was cool. The only thing is you have to be VERY quick with your attacks or else those tentacles will tear you apart.

I would mention Spider-Man 3 because I felt like that game had a lot of potential, but it was a huge let down. This game was just shit in almost every aspect, and to top it off, it had a ton of glitches.

I am torn between Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Rome:Total War Europa Barbarorum

The former is perhaps the greatest game of all time. It is so in-depth and the side quests make it a monster to complete fully. If only games these days had half of its playability.

Having said that, I think I would grudgingly go for RTW EB. The original unmodded game was great but the EB expansion is incredible. The amount of different units, languages, the size of the map, the different challenges you face depending on which faction you pick make this game truly epic in longevity.

A tie between Pokemon Platinum and Fallout 3. I'm choosing these games because they have a ridiculous amount of play time and things to do because they are RPG's. I've spent over 100 plus hours on both of them. But once Resistance 3 gets announced I'll probably pick that game. It should reignite my craving in multiplayer.

FIFA.

I spend a lot of time playing video games and the game that I play the most, by some distance, is FIFA 10. There is an achievement for playing 50 hours of that game and I accomplished it in the first 2 or 3 weeks of getting it. That may not sound like an achievement but considering I go to college and work and the gym every day, that is a lot of gameplay packed into very little space of time. My friend and I play this game constantly and I think that it is the game that gives me the most playing pleasure of all the games that I own. I am a massive football fan and although the game is very repetitive and really doesn't give a huge amount of variety, I think it is still the game that I would not give up playing. Although some games, like Mass Effect 2, give me more pleasure playing through, there is no competition for the most playable and indeed most played game for me.

I would go with san andreas aswell, ive never played a game as fun as that ever!
I spent hour after hour on that game :p
i remember hunting around for big foot and aliens for days on end, and believing they existed lol :banghead:
Good times...

I went with a classic that I'm suprised people have overlooked Goldeneye.

Simple reason is that there is so much playability available in that game from the three different level settings, to the speedruns, to the bonus missions to the multiplayer. It's a game that even if you spent 5 years away from it, you know you will enjoy it every single time. It's classic that hasn't been truly repeated in terms of FPS and if I had to play only one game for life, it would be Goldeneye.

There's no doubt in my mind it would be The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. To me there is no game with an equal replay value on Earth. I have beat the game countless times and still have fun trying to remember how to get through dungeons and were all the heart containers and items are. It's not just amazing for it's time, the story and overall gameplay is still something spectacular by todays standards.

If I had to go with something else, my second choice would be Super Metroid for almost the same reasons. One fo the first games I remember being proud for beating, it's still a challenge today. Very few games at the time had legitimately created that sort of atmoshpere, that sort of solitary feeling. Not to mention the game has some of the best hacks and created areas of any SNES game. Always been one of my favorites.

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. IMO its the best wrestling game ever made, only competing with No Mercy, Day of Reckoning and, Wrestle Kingdom 2. What makes the game so good? The absolutely mind blowing, button timing system. See, instead of just pressing buttons, everything has to be perfect, for example the striking system, you have to be the perfect amount of space away from your opponent, or else it won't pick up the move hit. The grapple system is on a one touch button system. No more pressing buttons to get to the good moves to be shown, for this game all it takes is a single stroke of a button at the right time during the tie-up to bust out the heavy arsenal. Also I love that you can't start out right away doing big moves. Square is weak moves, X is Mid-Match moves, and O is Specials and signature moves. If you come straight out trying to do big match moves, with out laying the ground work with the weaker ones then prepared to be reversed again, and again. Not only is the game play stellar, the roster in unbelievable to start with and can be the end all be all of wrestling roster with the customization and CAW mode. The game starts with about 300 puro wrestlers(Its a Japanese game) and about a 200 North Americans. So about 500 to start with, and 400 more spots to make them. Reason I chose this game for this topic, I have already been playing the game for years, I got it online in 2007 before the game was even fully translated for its North american release. I still very actively play the game. I already have played it non stop for three years, so I'm sure I could play it forever.

Damn I was thinking the same thing. I actually have my n64 hooked up with Goldeneye in it, by far my favorite game of all time.

So if I could only play one game for the rest of my life it would be Goldeneye because I love the 007 movies and that was my favorite game I ever played. The only thing that would suck is that it is on n64 and the graphics aren't as good as they are nowadays, it would be a complete and total lock if they remade it on xbox or ps3 though.
