TNA beat WWE ratings!

Well at least in one country. For the second week running Australian fans have chosen to watch TNA more than WWE shows.

TNA Impact beat Raw & SmackDown in the ratings. In its second week in Australia, TNA Impact got 43,000 viewers, compared to SmackDown with 36,000 & Raw with 38,000. Is this the way the US will follow and can TNA use their popularity down under to their advantage. Possibly having a few shows there.

I couldn't believe my eyes, a few weeks back I posted a thread about TNA in Australia for the first time. Now I can't believe this. This is insane, I didn't know Australian's could be so unknowing (well about wrestling at least). :smashfreakB:  :dark2:

I will never assume anything again....

is that for real? no one i know watches tna. tna must of rigged it. there is no way that could happen

I don't think it takes into account two separate televisions in one household, meaning TNA could have had much more viewers!

I don't even know how TV ratings are measured. I think you'd have to spread the TVs out pretty far.

yea id love to know how it works, i mean is it just whos austar box is on what channel at that time? cos i dont turn my austar box off but i turn my tv goes off so does that mean its still classed as i watched it?

Nielsen uses a technique called statistical sampling to rate the shows -- the same technique that pollsters use to predict the outcome of elections. Nielsen creates a "sample audience" and then counts how many in that audience view each program. Nielsen then extrapolates from the sample and estimates the number of viewers in the entire population watching the show. That's a simple way of explaining what is a complicated, extensive process. Nielsen relies mainly on information collected from TV set meters that it installs, and then combines this information with huge databases of the programs that appear on each TV station and cable channel.

To find out who is watching TV and what they are watching, the company gets around 5,000 households to agree to be a part of the representative sample for the national ratings estimates. Nielsen's statistics show that 99 million households have TVs in the United States, so Nielsen's sample is not very large. The key, therefore, is to be sure the sample is representative. Then TVs, homes, programs, and people are measured in a variety of ways.

To find out what people are watching, meters installed in the selected sample of homes track when TV sets are on and what channels they are tuned to. A "black box," which is just a computer and modem, gathers and sends all this information to the company's central computer every night. Then by monitoring what is on TV at any given time, the company is able to keep track of how many people watch which program.

Small boxes, placed near the TV sets of those in the national sample, measure who is watching by giving each member of the household a button to turn on and off to show when he or she begins and ends viewing. This information is also collected each night.
The national TV ratings largely rely on these meters. To ensure reasonably accurate results, the company uses audits and quality checks and regularly compares the ratings it gets from different samples and measurement methods.

Participants in Nielsen's national sample are randomly selected. Every U.S. household with a TV theoretically has a chance to be a part of the sample. The sample is also compared to the general population, and at times Nielsen calls thousands of households to see if their TV sets are on and who is watching.

Wow...all wrestling fans over here are 10 year old kids who think the shit is real. Maybe Shark Boy does bring in ratings...God knows, a 10 year old mind is the only one that could be entertained by that gimmicky shit.

By the way, I fell asleep watching TNA last night. Or was it the week before? Yeah, the week before. It was in some Super Eric moment. I've never fallen asleep watching wrestling before. Hell, I haven't fallen asleep once in the past 500 Cena victories. Thanks TNA...now, if I can't sleep, I'll watch you!

Marty loves shark boy...and kevin nash should do stand up.
Add this to his desire to see anal rape on TNA, skipping the wrestling to watch the promos and you see the disturbed life of the shark boy fan

The reason why Impact did better ratings than Raw and Smackdown is because Impact is on Saturday nights when there is usually nothing else good on with the exception of the footy/soccer.

Raw and Smackdown is shown at 3pm during the week so what do you expect from a poor time slot.

True. I much preferred Raw and SD when they were on during the night. But, apparently the kiddies can't stay awake past 7 O'Clock, so they have to put it on at a reasonable time for them.

Fucking kids. Ruin everything.

Same watching wrestling at night is wayyy wayyy better than during the day. At least theres something decent on Saturday nights now that I can watch if Im not busy.

TNA fans mark even if they beat ECW. Not much of an achievement if you ask me. Angle > Kofi Kingston. TNA SHOULD always get higher ratings than ECW.
