Hogan doesn't leave the WWF after King of the Ring 1993. He appears on Monday Night Raw shortly thereafter, waving the usa flag, and telling the crowd that despite his loss to Yoko Zuna, he will fight on in the WWF for them and for the usa. The crowd gets into it with "usa! usa!" chants.
Tatanka's music hits. He comes to the ring, and tells Hogan to put that flag away. Hogan says "Hell no! I'm a real American, brother!" Tatanka tells him that he's not a real American, Tatanka is. He explains to him that the real Americans are the native ones. That Hogan is just an uninvited guest, who came and desecrated Tatanka's people.
Hogan and the crowd get awkwardly silent. Tatanka further explains that that flag that Hogan has, was not invited onto this land. It was forcibly placed over Tatanka's land. That usa is an unwanted entity here, and has to leave.
The crowd starts to get a little racist, with some chanting "usa!", but not all. Hogan tells Tatanka that he doesn't know what to say to him, but he loves this country and is proud to be an "American".
Tatanka isn't having it. He insists that Hogan isn't a real American, and it's time that usa leaves this land to its original inhabitants. He takes the flag from the Hulkster and attacks him with it.
As the feud goes on, Vince doesn't frame either man as a heel or face. He remains neutral in his commentary, and keeps reminding us that this is a controversial issue, and we are allowed to see it from whichever side.
However, as the weeks go on, the crowd turns on Tatanka, even though he is sincere in his promos, and not acting heelish at all. He simply explains how sad he is that the white man took his land, then draped a new flag and identity over it.
Hogan and Tatanka go toe to toe at Summer Slam 1993, with Tatanka going over in a passionate match.
Tatanka rips the usa flag over a fallen Hogan, to raucous boos. Tatanka does a spiritual gesture towards his ancestors, then leaves the ring. Hogan leaves the WWF after this.
