How stupid / annoying is Lawler....

Getting Noticed By Management
My god, just finished watching Raw and this will probably be a rage thread, but I just had it with Lawler.

The arena chants for Rollins because he is from Iowa, all the time the commentators say that this is the only place he will be getting cheered and Lawler comes off saying "yea, the fans cheer for him to go in the ring, because Roman Reigns has unfinished business with him".

When I heard that, I instantly wished I was next to Lawler so I could punch his face in.

Oh well, now that I got this out of my system, did you feel the same way? Post other annoying Lawler moments please, I wanna get mad again.

Yeah Lawler tends to say things like that, but I know that in the past he has been given orders by Vince to do so. Maybe this is one of those cases?

I think that whole announce team needs to go, the sooner the better. That being said, it's not entirely King's fault. Vince is usually in his ear telling him what to say. Then again, if I had to pick something that I find annoying, it's that little "AAH" he does quite a bit or the fact that half the stuff he says are one liners that 7-8 times out of 10 are just not funny.

I haven't really enjoyed any commentary team since JR left, even when he and the King were a part-time team, at least it gave something to look forward to.

Cole has grown on me somewhat, but I still find him largely sleep inducing. I cannot stand JBL, haven't liked him since the APA days. King is a stalwart and hard to dislike, given his history, but I do agree that lately, he's been way off base.

The only thing that sucked about the Attitude era was listening to him say PUPPIES over and over again.

Lawler has never been the same since he returned after leaving because of The Cat's dismissal - the Lawler that returned was a watered down, quieter and very ordinary commentator, even more so since JR left.

He strikes me as someone who is a complete suck-up, as if needs every single cent of what WWE pay him, which is surprising for someone with a reported net worth of $7 million.

Fantastic heel, great wrestler, previous quite good on commentary but now he really has no place being there anymore. I can't remember the last time I found a comment of his to be either funny or insightful.

I once thought Lawler was annoying.

Until JBL started becoming the mouthpiece for the heels.

I think a lot of it is not meshing with Cole as well... They seem to gang up and pick on the old man a bit, gets irritating since Cole always comes off looking like an A5S anyway... on script and off script.

He never calls the match but is too concerned with listening for opportunities to burn Jerry while Jerry tries to call the match. That's gotta be frusturating. Id be angry if i was wrestling

Yeah, Lawler is awful, no doubt. For a while after his return from the heart attack, he was quiet, which was good, but now he is back to his old shenanigans. The worst to me is the exaggerated "WOO HOO!" and the way he "strains" when doing commentary on play backs of someone lifting a heavy wrestler, as if he is doing it himself.

When I heard him make that comment the OP referenced last night, I thought that was 100% Vince in his ear, afraid of having a heel be cheered for a legit reason.

They are all awful. Between Twitter and WWE Network Plugs, recapping previous segments, and arguing amongst themselves, they don't have time to even call the matches.

Eh, JBL is always trying to take jabs on Cole, especially on Smackdown, about how he doesn't pay attention to him etc. The only time they take jabs on Lawler is about losing to Cole at WM.

To be fair, even though they are forced to talk about random stuff, when Cole gets serious, he does a good job commentating and selling certain stuff. Lawler on the other hand, I don't know. Too much sucking up, and he isn't even funny what he does it. Same goes for JBL. They are both so repetitive.

i think when cole tries he is actually really good. he does a good job of selling whats happening and when he actually calls the match its not bad. lawler and jbl have become god awful. and the constant just pickering between the three takes away from the product so much. its like watching tv and theres people in the room who keep talking while you are trying to pay attention to the show

Announce team needs a major rehaul. Sometimes they are flat out embarrassing to listen, I have grown to tolerate Michael Cole... Lawler seems lost and I usually tune him out if I even notice him say anything... JBL flip flops on being a heel announcer and just saying bat shit crazy things.

The present announce team is super shitty and I wouldn't at all put the blame on Lawler. Aside from the fact that he is no longer a 'villain' troll announcer, degrading all women, (a decision that was likely not his own,) I don't think Lawler is doing too bad. However, there is very little commemoratory amongst the current announce team. JBL is consistently ribbing on all the talent, especially young and not over talent, essentially failing to sale any story. Add to it, Michael Cole seems to be in stiff competition with both guys.

Pretty much, this is just the worst announce team I can recall.

What you feel about a commentator is a matter of taste. I think Lawler does a good job. And if Lawler was to go, who would be the alternative? Please don't throw out some IWC darling name. They aren't the cure to all ills.

In 2014 commentators are supposed to be all things to all people. Lawler can go from comedic, to dramatic, to sage at the drop of a hat. That is a talent few commentators possess. In fact, I can't think of any wresters-turned-commentators that have done or can do what Jerry does. Yikes, try saying that sentence five times fast.

Listening to some of his calls on the WWE Network from 1993 / 1994 really puts it into perspective: the King is way off his prime. But he's still the King and I still think he's great. had the pleasure of speaking with him a couple of years ago and he was an absolute gentlemen to boot.

Regal is the best play by play announcer and I think Renee Young is honesty already more entertaining than Lawler. JBL is the biggest problem with the announcers IMO because Lawler really doesn't even say that much and what he does say is predictable.

Lawler is there to placate the old "'rasslin" crowd from the old NWA days. He sucks, and really should be pushed aside. But, Lawler is still relevant in areas where the E has not been traditionally strong. So, unless he does something stupid, Lawler will be around for a while.
