That was another that I always thought was a bit odd. It never really made sense to me, and I would be really interested to know what the name actually means or if there is a meaning to it at all. Maybe its just a random phrase they decided to use without much thought.
When I hear the name I think of a group of homeless guys playing marbles and the winner gets enough money to buy some soup. I'm guessing that's not what the band intended me to think of with their name???

Actually I found some pretty freaky names on a website for some groups.
Porno for Pyros..this was with the lead singer Perry Farrell side group, he was with Jane's Addiction. Actually, not a bad group. But the name is something you sometimes cannot get past. I recall seeing one of their videos on an episode of Beavis and Butthead, and to this day, I still giggle like I'm 12 years old again.
Mushroomhead..this is a heavy metal group I hear quite a bit late at night when I'm driving around. They play this group on a hardcore metal station. Again, not bad music, but if you've ever seen 'Varsity Blue' when that Moxon guy is talking about nicknames for male genitalia that is one of the names. So its quite comical whenever the DJ says "We've got Mushroomhead on your radio right now!"

Good question, actually it was formed pretty randomly. Before the band was what it is today, they toured as a 3-piece band. One day in Alabama, the members of the band were walking through town and they saw a run-down building. Some of the letters had fallen off the building, the remaining letters said, "Doors Down." Since the band only had 3 people at the time, they added a 3 to the beginning of it to create the name 3 Doors Down.
As for a horrible name, like Fred, I'd say LMFAO. It's just a name that appeals to today's teens, thus making them popular. Their music is abysmal and I for one can't stand it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Butthole Surfers. Surprisingsly weird, horrible name. Yet, they have some very good songs, like "Pepper" and "Who was in my Room Last Night" (I think that was it). Trust me, the name sounds liek something you would see on late night Cinemax or something.

I've always thought that the name Puddle of Mudd was more of a drug reference, at least i know in my area, a Puddle of Mudd has been used as long as i remember as a term to describe meth after it's been heated in a spoon, before putting it into a syringe to inject.

Interesting point, I never knew that. Perhaps that's what the name means then..it would make sense as I cannot see there being any other reason for choosing such a stupid name! Thanks for answering.

So I saw this band a couple days ago called "Tom Cruise's Magical Mermaid Carnival". No I am not kidding they are a local band that play screamo in my area of Portland, Oregon so don't expect to find them online anywhere lol. Apparently they had to come up with a name on the spot as they didn't have one yet. So what do you know they came up with that. Now from what I've seen they changed it again to "Willis and the boom boom tap kids". None of them are named Willis either. I'm not sure how they come up with these but they are pretty awful names. Still hilarious though
