Homemade Food vs. Restaurant/Fast Food vs. Store bought food

Yes, this is another food topic, but hey! You didn't have to click into here!

Anyway, after reading through a lot of the other food topics that deal with the prices of stuff from restaurants and how gravy packets never taste as good as restaurant and claim it's cause they made it at home, I decided to make an entire thread on a debate which style of food do you enjoy the best.

Do you like "buy it in a can and feel like a man" store bought food (a saying my mother always used), or do you like "Drive around to the back of the building and hand me my food through window" fast food? Maybe you like food that's cooked to perfection and brought to you by those nice young ladies/gentlemen? Or maybe you like food best when it's semi or fully homemade? Which do you like best?

For myself, it's simple... homemade as much as possible. Ignoring the fact that it's WAY less expensive then buying it pre-made, the simple fact that most of what I make (or what my gf makes) is hands down the best food ever. If it were just my food that I were saying this about, I would say it's an ego trip... but even when I go to just a friendly cook-out (no, that's not a barbecue!) the food there just tastes way better if someone actually cooked the food themselves.

For example, barbecue sauce is without a doubt America's answer for almost everything. And nine times out of ten, the person you ask will always tell you what their favorite origin of BBQ sauce is. Whether it's Texas, California (yeah right), New York (as if), Oklahoma, Memphis, Kansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, or Carolina... And to me, if you want to taste those types of sauces, you don't buy them in a jar. You find someone who makes it from scratch so you can get the full flavors. By the way, Memphis is the best.

Another example why homemade is better, is that you get a sense of pride in it. Like "Hey, I just made an extra large pizza with Pepperoni, jalapenos, olives, and bacon for myself and my friends... and it tasted way better than that cardboard pizza!" And you can get more into a lot of conversations when you go to someone and say "Hey, my marinara sauce is a bit thinner than yours, what's your secret?"

Idk, maybe it's cause I'm a southern American mut who actually had family that could cook and picked up a few things myself, but in my opinion homemade smashes anything.

BTW, this isn't saying that I don't eat other foods. I'm just saying homemade, in my opinion, is best. And now, I'd like to know your opinion.

The most I eat is fast food. Since I work in one. Secondly would be store bought food or the microwave variety because, I don't really know how to cook outside the burgers. And then there's homemade food. Which I rarely enjoy because of my shifting work schedule.

Fast food is convenient, effective and obviously quick. But of course, it can be unhealthy. However in todays culture, some people need to bypass that to get through the day without starving. Hectic schedules are the reason that damn Starbucks is so popular. People just don't have time to make a simple cup of coffee. I hate coffee, but you get the point.

Store bought food, regardless, is important. You can't grow everything at home and even if you could, I doubt people would know how to prepare half of it properly. Imagine killing a chicken every week. Or Making your own pasta. Or bread! Too much of a hassle and as I already said, most people don't have time for that. If you run out of milk in the middle of the night, you don't have to go outside and milk your cow, bring the milk in, boil it and them cool it. Just walk over to the closest mini-mart and buy a milk carton. Saves you loads of time.

Wait, nobody milks the cow? Dammit.

However you could never beat some homemade spaghetti. Chef Boyardee ain't got shit on that. Homemade burgers trump fast food ones. Trust me, I know.

It depends on the situation, how I'm feeling that day, how much money I feel like spending, and who I'm eating with. Store bought food can be the cheapest alongside fast food, so that's good if you're trying to save money. Home cooked meals are only as good as the person who cooks them. I'm not a good cook, thus I don't do whole lot of cooking unless frozen pizzas in the oven count. I like sit-down restaurants but can't afford to get a steak dinner more than once or twice a month. So it really just depends on the situation. A happy medium between all of the above is going to a steakhouse but just getting an appetizer such as a plate of cheese fries or something like that because while it isn't as cheap as fast food but it tastes better and doesn't take as long to cook as many home cooked meals do.

In my opinion, the best food comes from the smaller business fast-food places. What I mean by that is not McDonalds and all of those but the family ran ones. They seem to always have the best foods. I guess it would known as diners. Every time we take a road trip we stop in a different city or town (don't know whats the difference, but I digress) and try out a neighborhood diner to see if they have good burgers. Most of the times we don't even remember the name of the diner or the city it's in once we leave there but the food is always great.

Well unless you're a professional chef, restaurant food will pretty much always be superior to anything you can knock up at home, proper restaurant though, not fast food. The same goes for any processed food you can get in a shop, I generally find it to be lower quality but that's because I'm a damn good cook. If you can't make cereal without it spontaneously combusting, you're probably best gettting stuff that's already put together.

My mom's an awesome cook!

Yeah, so good that I've gotta hide in Lunch break so that my classmates don't come around and go "Hey, gimme some." =.=

Besides, I'm not the one who pays for all the things she buys.

What more can I ask for?!

I'm not a huge fan of fast food.

BUT it IS good once in a while :3
