Its simple. IWC poster child didn't win so the boards are quiet.
In the way he lost, however, one would think that more people would be on and upset, especially with Bryan being screwed once again. If there's anything that generally draws out the masses, it's not to tout WWE(or TNA, for that manner) when they do something perceived as right, it's to bash them for doing something wrong.
LSN's Hell In A Cell Hits and Misses:
Hell In A Cell Hits:
The Rhodes vs. The Usos vs. The Shield: This was tag team wrestling at its best. The 'organized chaos' of the match was excellent, especially Cody's superplex onto the other members of the match on the outside. It got the crowd hot from the start, rightfully earning them the This Is Awesome chant that they received. I liked the psychology of the match as well, as Goldust at one point was almost forced to tag in an Uso because Cody was on the ground, and he was being worked over badly. A fantastic opener to the show with the right team winning, as it was simply too soon to remove the belts from the Rhodes. An excellent contest with solid work from all three teams.
***1/4.
Kane returns: Miz showed great babyface intensity in calling out Bray Wyatt in a situation where he had to know he would be over-matched, but the return of Kane was the highlight here. I was of the belief that Kane would return as part of the Wyatt family following the events of Summerslam, so it was a surprising direction to me. It's a feud look forward to see being explored more on Raw, and what they do with Kane's character.
Paul Heyman's promo: In anyone else's hands, this may have been eye-rolling, but Heyman's proclamation of being the devil himself rang true. I like that he incorporated that he did many despicable things on Punk's behalf, showing that he wasn't entirely blameless either. The promo was made even more effective by the fact that Heyman got his comeuppance following the match. Further, this signals the end of the feud, which has run its course. The match itself wasn't very good, but the before and after were quite effective in what should close the chapter on this feud.
Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena: Cena slipped another attempt at the cross-arm breaker, and hit the AA for the win. It's the 14th World Title for Cena, meaning he's won more than anyone in history, save Ric Flair. Del Rio had a nice run with the belt, and while I'm surprised they didn't go the DQ route and have Cena win at Survivor Series in Boston, this worked too. The predictable but smart story was told with Del Rio working over Cena's arm, only for Cena to show hes 100% healthy. These two have had better matches, but this was still very good. Cena's stamina was high and he showed little ring rust. The beginning was a little slow, but they built to a nice pace with a satisfying climax.
***
AJ Lee vs. Brie Bella: This was a solid buffer match, and Brie is beginning to come into form as a babyface, as evidenced from the nice pop she received from her entrance. This was also the right move in keeping the title on AJ, as there's simply no one in the division who can touch her right now. This also appears to be setting up a Bella Twin split, which could be interesting if done right.
*3/4.
Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan: Never in this match did I get the feeling that Bryan would be walking away with the title. Between HBK as the referee and his overall dominance of Orton when they actually wrestle, it seemed WWE was coming close to making Orton seem irrelevant based on his continued losing. For now, WWE made the right move in going with Orton, and gave Bryan an out after being superkicked by HBK. It's an interesting dynamic, as HBK seemingly reacted out of friendship with HHH, and wasn't truly a heel here. The fallout will be interesting, and this was a good match, without the need for the Cell. Bryan and Orton work well together, and this was no different. A good main event.
***1/2.
Overall Show: Barely a hit. With three matches over 3 stars, it makes for a good PPV, though nothing jumped out here as great. From the top of the card to the bottom it will be interesting to see where the fallout is. Where do the Shield and Usos go from here? Where does CM Punk go now, with his Paul Heyman feud over? Big E. Langston has a chance to be elevated in a major way, and the Divas division feels like it is slowly coming off life support. Both championship matches were good ones, and it will be interesting to see how WWE presents the World Title with Cena now holding it. The WWE Title scene remains overbooked and convoluted, but there's a champion finally. A thumbs slightly up PPV.
C+.
Hell In A Cell Misses:
Damien Sandow vs. Kofi Kingston: It was good to see Sandow get both a clean win and a
useful finisher, but this match wasn't enticing enough that it would hook viewers on the fence. Kofi continues to be wasted with meaningless matches, as he's extremely over. Bottom line, WWE needs to get a match with an actual feud onto their pre-show, and while it's not their fault Axel got hurt, but this match was of no consequence except to give Sandow a win.
*1/2.
Summer Rae/Fandango vs. Khali/Natalya: This match was of no conseqence, although it was nice to see that Summer Rae is a capable wrestler. She'll be a welcome addition to the Divas if used on a regular basis. However, this was a thrown together match based on a "feud" that began Friday night, and there was no payoff or meaning to this match other than it being Summer's debut.
*1/4.
Dean Ambrose vs. Big E Langston: WWE was boxed into a corner with Langston, as Axel's injury left him without an opponent. Ambrose was a capable and legitimate replacement, but the match simply wasn't good. Langston looked silly spearing Ambrose outside the ring then not breaking the count to bring him back in. It was the only real ending they couldgo with based upon the on-the-fly booking, but they went about it poorly. Langston has a lot of potential as a babyface, and hopefully WWE will capitalize on it soon.
**
CM Punk vs. Ryback: The before with the Heyman promo was excellent, as was the aftermath with Punk finally getting his hands on Heyman uninhibited. However, this was likely the dullest Hell In A Cell match I've ever seen. Both men simply don't work well together, other than their TLC match in January. Punk did his best here and the ending sequence was a good one, but it didn't make up for the dullness of the rest of the match.
**1/4.
Los Matadores vs. The Real Americans: While it was refreshing to see Los Matadores face off against someone other than 3MB, this wasn't very good. Cesaro continues to stand out and be excellent, but he's also being wasted by jobbing to teams like Los Matadores. The gimmick is awful and it's apparent people are souring on them already. Nothing to see here.
