Has Samoa Joe opened the door for AJ Styles?

benm1989

Sir Darth Maul
With Samoa joe signing with wwe and debuting on nxt this week opened the door for an aj styles debut or any other tna original
I personally didn't think it was ever going to happen for a tna guy to go to wwe
But it has happened no I'm thinking what next
I'm a big fan of aj and the way nxt is growing I think this is the perfect time to sign him with him finished with tna for a long time now
Who would you guys want to sign with wwe and would aj work
What would you do with him

AJ has refused to go to WWE and i don't see him changing his mind anytime soon. He seems happy doing what he's doing right now in ROH.. I don't blame him. If he can make good money on the Indy's there's no need for a WWE run.

That is true but I know in wrestling never say never
Never thought sting would go to wwe but he did
I think joe signing could have peaked aj's interested
So if joe is used well and succeeds I could definitely see aj even consider it

With no guarantees that he would ascend to a spot on the main roster that would promise the big paydays that make joining WWE enticing, there is no way that Styles, who is IWGP Heavyweight Champion, would walk away from the BIG money that NJPW pays(let alone the big ROH/indy paydays that he can further supplement that with), just to make a run with WWE through developmental. He's the champion of the second biggest promotion in the world, NXT would be a step backwards for AJ right now.

AJ Styles is the exact type of talent that NXT seems to attract - i.e. fucking great talent. Unfortunately, I'm told by my sources in Japan that AJ earns approximately ten trillion yen a year, which is at least £9 an hour, and there's no way an NXT salary can compete with that.

I really hope so. AJ is a f'n great talent and the WWE would totally miss the boat on this guy if they dont bring him on board now. AJ is 36 (?) now, same age as Joe so i believe he can still go and the wwe can capitalize and bring NXT even more prominence with his signing.

Even Triple H said in his twitter "i never say never to anything."

Come on AJ, do it for your fans!! We want to see you shine on the bigger stage!!

It's always possible, and I think he could fit in with the roster, he's definitely good enough.
It seems like there's a pattern forming here. I'm thinking it looks like a new type of superstar is emerging from the PG or reality era, whatever you wanna call it.

Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar, these guys are pretty much the most over in Pro Wrestling right now. I know there are others at their level, but these 4 seem to be the ones people like almost unanimously.

What do they have in common? They are all no nonsense, no BS bad asses. Seems to be a trend in the industry, they are the ones we all like.

AJ is more a flashy showman type so he may not have opened it for AJ all the way, but he is keeping it open for people similar to Samoa Joe

I truly believe that if the WWE were interested in Styles they would have reached out to him as soon as he left TNA. It just seem to me that they never were. Why let the guy go to the indies for a few years, become champion there and then ask him to come for a try out?

If Styles is smart he would stay where he is, even if the WWE does come knocking on his door. I'm not sure at his age he would want to go through the grind that WWE superstars do, with the travelling and whatnot. It appears that he's making enough money where is he is keep him comfortable, without the hectic WWE schedule.

The WWE isn't interested in every single wrestler that comes along, they only take the ones they want. That's evidenced by their lack of being able to come to terms with Kurt Angle. Samoa Joe opened the door for Samoa Joe, and that's it.

This is going to sound crazy to many but the E is not the end all be all for every talent. Styles doesn't need the E. He is in a tremendous position for his personal and family achievements. In fact I would be willing to bet Joe doesn't need the E. Its likely a stop gap to fulfill a personal goal. Anyway Joe offers the E so much more than his TNA cohorts as he is something remotely unique to the current roster.

When he first left TNA, I was salivating at the idea of AJ Styles in WWE. At the time, CM Punk was still pretty hot and Daniel Bryan was beginning his ascension, but I knew it was a longshot. At this point, AJ is probably the hottest wrestlng star in the world not from the WWE. He's making a truckload of money through individual appearances, not to mention what he gets from NJPW and ROH.

At this point, joining NXT would probably be a step down for Styles. The only reason I could see him reaching out is to have one last hurrah on the BIG stage before retiring, and at that point WWE wouldn't be interested.

Never say never, but chances are real slim.

I really doubt AJ jumps. I'd like to see it, but I think at this point in his career he'd have to resign to the fact that he'd never get anywhere near the top, and after working so much of his career at the top of whatever promotion he's in, I doubt he'd be okay with the perceived demotion. I'm sure deep down he'd like to work a WM, but that's probably it.

With the top of the card already so full, and NXT having several guys already ready to be main event players in WWE, I don't think it would make a lot of sense for him at this point.

I'll say this though, with Joe unfortunately debuting in NXT (and not straight to the main roster as I'd hoped). It sticks with WWE's trend of forcing everyone in NXT prior to a debut on the main roster. I don't think there's anything wrong with this, because honestly NXT is the superior show BUT…I really believe at this point there is only one single free agent wrestler in the entire world who could show up unannounced on a Raw, and still have a big impactful debut, where people would actually mark out and know who he is straightaway, that man? AJ Styles.

AJ makes more money doing less work than 90% of the WWE roster INCLUDING NXT. He would be beyond insane to go to WWE at this point in his career. He is revered in Japan, and hugely respected in ROH and in the Indies. He can pick and choose which shows he performs in. To go to WWE now would cost him freedom, days with his kids, and a truckload of money. It would be as if Cena left WWE to sign an exclusive deal with OMEGA: $1K a match, 2 hot dogs and a handshake. It would be beyond insanity if Cena did that.

As it would be beyond insanity at this point in AJ Styles career if he joined WWE.

I dont see AJ coming to WWE. WWE is not interested in him, and AJ is not interested in WWE.

Samoa Joe fits a lot more on WWE than AJ. Im not talking about talent, just the type of guy that will work better on wwe programs.

That being said, HHH has always said that he's a JOE fan, and Joe being very good friends with Cena, also helps.

AJ Styles is currently one of the hottest talents out on the independent scene. He's known better than some of the talents down in NXT. AJ is a star, without the WWE and has stayed a star without TNA.

Why would he go to the WWE when he is working with multiple promotions while he is, reportedly, more than his TNA contract gave him?

I believe there was news shortly after AJ left TNA that the WWE made him an offer but it was a very low one for him. So why would he leave large sums of money to go to NXT where he would earn a lot less money, which was one of the reasons he left TNA - he wanted money.

There is no guarantee that after his run in NXT that AJ would earn enough on the main roster to satisfy him. Honestly I think the WWE would make him into the next Dolph Ziggler - the face of the mid card - and I'm sure AJ see's that as well. I think he'll achieve more on the independents than he will in the WWE.

Isn't AJ more of an anti-WWE guy than Sting ever was? Sting was worried about his legacy, AJ just doesn't like the E if I'm not mistaken, aside from that short developmental spell in the very early 2000s.

I can't see it happening. He has a good thing going now, why go to wwe to start all over? It is interesting - The Young Bucks recently passed on wwe to stay on the indy game, AJ is doing a similar thing. Maybe wwe isn't the ultimate goal anymore. It has certainly changed over the past 15 years, maybe people are not as interested in going there now like they would have been in the 90's. Could be a case of where wwe's success is starting to cost them a little(not that it matters to them).

Never say never but I dont think he ever will.
While he is good, I dont think WWE sees him as that good. He "seems" too old like some other guys they picked up. Plus I think his ego will get him kicked out before he has any chance to make it in the WWE. But I wish him the best and if he wants to work for WWE I hope we see him in the best light possible.
