Why is there no basis for it? I think Jericho's return last year was one of the worst in recent memory. Same goes for his this year. Started off hot against Ziggler and then fumbled into a random feud with Fandango.
Lesnar's wasn't that bad though. He had a great match with Cena, but then had some lackluster matches with Triple H. But there was very little WWE could do with that 3-match a year bullsh*t Lesnar signed for.
I think there have been worse returns though. D'Lo returned just to job to Santino and then get fired. Albert returned as Tensai and we all know how that turned out. Obviously, Jericho and Lesnar's tumbles are more in the spotlight so that's why you consider them worse, but frankly, they weren't that bad all things considered.

Lesnar's return botched? He returns, F5's John Cena and has a match of the year candidate at Extreme Rules. How is that a botch? I don't want him working with Triple H either but a botch, don't think so.
Jericho is used to put younger talent over at this point, Jericho isn't about gaining momentum for himself he's being used to gain momentum for the guy he's facing, which he does very well.
I wouldn't say either have been botched personally.
