...the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin? I'm on the third book, A Storm of Swords now and loving every page of it. Usually not a big fan of high fantasy, but this isn't like any fantasy series I've ever seen. It's not your typical sword and sorcery fluff, there's some real substance here, and it's gritty as all hell.

BTW, there really needs to be a books non-spam forum. Just saying.

Any book stuff should go in the Cigar Lounge I suppose. The idea a books forum is pretty intriguing though, there are certainly plenty of intelligent and well read people on here.
