Gypsy Joe Passes Away

Getting Noticed By Management
Wrestling legend Gilberto Melendez, better known as Gypsy Joe, has died. Joe has had a long career and appeared in WWWF, Ring of Honor, CZW and more. Joe wrestled for more than 50 years. He was 82 years old.

Sad news. Despite people going on record to believe that Superfly Snuka was the original high flyer, it was actually Gypsy Joe. Joe was the first person to ever do the jumping off the steel cage onto his opponent spot, and jumping off the turnbuckle was unheard of in the United States until Gypsy Joe came along in 1963 after spending much of the 50s in his native land, Puerto Rico.

I'm glad that he got to live a long life, which is something that not very many wrestlers get to do.

RIP

The shock isn't that Gypsy Joe is dead (I assumed New Jack killed him), the shock is that he was a sprightly 82.
