Gregory Helms

Gregory Helms Is apparently returning soon. What should the WWE do with him. Personaly i feel that they should either A) Return him to smackdown and have him compete for the United States Championship or B) head to Ecw and win compete for the ECW Championship. If matt was moved there to become the Champion, Gregory helms has already shown he can have good matches with him i could really see him as the ECW champion. I mean if Chavo could do it why cant Helms Helms has way more Charisma and Talent then Chavo. I know he is a small guy so he wouldnt be suited for the two top belts but why not give him the supposedly third belt. Gregory helms as champion would get people watching ECW again.

I like Helms as Helms. Hurricane, yes I know, he was a comedy character and played up to the fans perfectly and actually embraced the deludedness of being able to chokeslam Big Show etc. Rosey dragged the guy down as a tag partner, but whenever he threw away the mask, he became an incredible heel. He actually was the polar opposite of his fan friendly persona and I thought he played that role very well.

As for moves, the guy is solid, not a stereotypical fly around cruiserweight, but with an edgier more ground based attack. i have to say, some of his finishers have looked pretty good (Vertebreaker anyone?). I think that type of cruiserweight is impressive and works well against the high-fliers.

I'm looking forward to seeing him return, maybe feuding with Matt, Jeff or Shannon Moore. They know each other well and should be able to put on a good series of matches. MAybe he'll bring back the c'weight belt with him, but I'm not holding my breath on that one

I almost forgot about this guy. He has been out of action for so long unfortunately. Anyway, Gregory Helms needs to move to ECW. With the Cruiserweight Title banished from Smackdown, what use is he to Smackdown? He will get lost in the shuffle with guys like Kennedy, M.V.P, Shelton, Carlito and many more in the mid-card area.

I personally think he will return on the ECW brand. It makes sense since ECW got screwed outta the draft. He makes a great heel and can be a really important asset to ECW. With ECW having many cruiserweights in Chavo, Evan Bourne, Super Crazy and Nunzio, I think Helms will fit in nicely in ECW. He needs to make a big impact when he returns, similar to what Chavo did when he returned and straight away attacked the ECW champion.

I can see Helms as the U.S champion, assuming the title stays on ECW. A nice and slow build up to the ECW title would be great. I really want to see John Morrison vs Gregory Helms. That match will definately interest me. On ECW I can see Helms feuding with Matt Hardy, Finlay, Tommy Dreamer, Evan Bourne and many more. Helms is way better than Chavo Guerrero and I really hope Gregory Helms gets a similar push to Chavo. If Chavo could win the ECW title, I can't see why Helms can't win the ECW title.

If they do put Helms on ECW, then they should have him join up with Miz & Morrison, and form a small faction with them, I just think he would fit in real well with those two, I would also like to see a feud between him and Bourne, those two could pull off some of the most entertaining matches that brand has ever seen, and may actually get me to watch that shitty brand again

I would prefer to see him on SD! though, if pushed properly he could have some great feuds with guys like Jeff Hardy, Kennedy, Kendrick, and Shelton, there are also good options for him becoming part of a good faction or team on SD! as well, I mean imagine a faction with MVP, Helms, Dykstra (yeah remember him, he's still part of the SD! roster too, LOL), & Shelton

All in all I think no matter where they put Helms he'll just get lost in the shuffle, and eventually released, or turned into just another jobber

I like Helms, I don't know why, but I do. The guy was great as the Hurricane but that was a gimmick that wasn't going to last forever. At one time the Hurricane was mega over, even picking up a win over the Rock. That was a perfect time to turn him heel and go all cocky ass similar to Rocky. Instead, they waited until all of his momentum was drained and the heel turn was fairly uneventful. Helms found himself on the losing end of a match with Jerry Lawler and soon on Heat.

The move to Smackdown seemed big at the time, but in retrospect it wasn't. They were trying to get fans to care about the CW Title, but no one did. He was still getting squashed by Lashley and Benoit during his run, so its not like he was ever a major player. I don't see his return being a big deal for more than a few weeks, in which he'll defeat Shannon Moore and Nunzio twice each.

I'm really excited about this. I've been a Helms fan since WCW, and I've missed him in action for more than a year. This guy is so good it's ridiculous. I just wish management could see it. He's athletic as hell, good at ground and pound, and can hit the air when necessary.

It's hard to say where he'll end up when he returns. He seemingly would fit better in ECW then on SmackDown at the moment, with all the smaller guys. Helms himself isn't that small (he's a little shorter, but much more muscular than CM Punk), but smaller opponents compliment his style. We've seen him put on good matches with Matt Hardy, and I'm sure he could put good matches on with people like Bourne and Morrison. He could really make a name for himself on ECW.

If they decide to keep him on SmackDown, I honestly don't know how it will end up. SmackDown doesn't have a midcard Title at the moment, so he really wouldn't serve much of a purpose other than being a jobber to get squashed by Triple H. The only thing I could see useful is if maybe he's the one to beat Matt Hardy for the US Title and bring it back to SmackDown. I actually wouldn't mind that, seeing as Helms is very solid in the ring, and would make an entertaining heel US Champion. Personally that's what I would do if I was on the Creative Team.

All in all, I can't wait to see Helms return, and hopefully get the recognition that he deserves, instead of becoming the Val Venis or Super Crazy of SmackDown. This guy is a major player, and could be a huge star if pushed correctly.

I'm a Helms mark. There I said it.The guy is great in the ring and good on the mike. But what should they do when he comes back?

You have 3 choices-

(1).Turn him face and give him a mid-card push.

Helms has been Heel for as long as he has been on Smackdown. Now that the Cruiserweight divison is gone he has nothing left.So move him up to the mid card.Problem is theres too many heels. So turn him face.Simple.

(2).Send him to ECW.

ECW needs that rebel style gimmick that Helms plays perfectly.

(3).Bring back the Crusierweight belt.

My least favourite idea.Helms worked so hard for that belt............Should WWE bring it back for Helms and the others?Nah......But they might.....

Am I the only one hoping for a 3 count reunion with Shannon Moore? ;)

All jokes aside though, I think the logical thing to do would be, as has been said by countless amount of posters, to move him to ECW where he can slot into the midcard. Staying on SD would do more harm than good as the midcard there is overflowing with wrestlers and Helms would more than likely get lost in the shuffle.

With him being a solid technical wrestler I think he could bring out the best in ECW's current thin roster and the incoming wrestlers from the talent initiative. An Evan Bourne-Helms feud sounds tasty, although I'm not too keen on a feud with Matt Hardy. Hardy has always been bland in the ring and I'm not sure a match with Helms and he could keep me awake. Obviously if he goes to ECW a US title feud is on the horizon so I'd say the Hardy feud will happen.

Overall I'm looking forward to his return as it may bring a few good matches in the future.

I don't think that turning Helms face while he's still in this gimmick would work, because he just seems like a jackass. They could give him a new gimmick though which could turn him face and he could have a shot at the US championship.

The WWE will not bring back the cruiserweight belt, but if they do they will give it to ECW. The cruiserweight belt couldn't come ack as people like rey and chavo have won one of the big three belts, and it would seem like they're too good for the rest of the cruiserweights.

I reckon the best idea is to either send him to ECW, where most of the cruiserweights end up anyway and a match with Evan Bourne would be awesome, or Helms should go to TNA where he can use all his moves. He might not get as much exposure, but at least he'll get on TV and actually have a few matches every three months.

I love this idea as both of them are really talented wrestlers and it would be good to see them get the tag team Championships. they work well together and culd be a real value to the roster. But i personally think that although he wont deserve the WHC title he does deserve a push with either the IC title or the united states championship. I wish he was bigger so he could compete for the titles becouse he would have to be one of the top five interesting wrestlers that aint ME status and the only thing stopping him would be his size disadvantage. but he deserves to get a lenghty title run with one of the belts.

Agreed, Helms was something special in the cruiserweight division, It was an amazing idea to have him just beat every single challenger one by one each week, and it really made him look like a big player.
Im surely wouldn't be able to do that in a heavier division, but having him portrayed as a good balanced alround technical wrestler in the mid-card would be more beneficial than giving him a ridiculous gimmick or a worthless piece of cruiserweight gold.

I think he should be put back in as a face, maybe let him ride Matt or Jeff's coatails for a bit. He has always been well liked, either as the Hurricane or as Gregory Helms, and this is "the Punk era" where small guys could getting big pushes. Not that i'm expecting him to be in a worlds title mix, but i can definatley see him knocking out some good matches with MVP and Finlay and the Hardys, naturally.

W.W.E. has the unique ability to truly return Gregory Helms in the position he left, as a heel.. or return him as a face. He's been gone so long, the fans might have lost all their dislike of him, which could enable him to be cheered via a specific type of return.

If you ask me personally, I really want Gregory Helms to reunite with Shannon Moore, and reform a version of 3-Count, only without the singing gimmick. I like to think of them as the "Carolina Connection". And with the recent Tag Team Championship switch, with Hawkins and Ryder winning the gold.. it's truly only a matter of time before they give those titles to a more deserving team.

If Jesse and Festus were in line to be Tag Team Champions, it would've happened by now already. They've had multiple chances to do so, and nothing has been capitalized on. So the way I see it, Hawkins and Ryder will end up possibly losing the titles to a team like Helms and Moore. This is me wishful thinking, but it's completely possible.

What's more, if that does happen.. the Hardys could reunite, and Helms and Moore could defend against the Hardys in an old-school classic, from their Omega days.

It's not a question of fans losing their dislike for him. It's more a question of if they care or remember about him. It's not like he was doing anything before he got injured. He was in a nothing team with Chavo. Before that he was just the Cruiserweight Champion.

I really hope they do something with him though. In 2006 he was the Cruiserweight Champion, yet he was bigger then the World Heavyweight Champion. He looks more than Matt Hardy's equal during their feud, and I think that Matt would be accepted as a main event player at this stage in his career. Not that Helms would be when he returns. But a little feud with Jeff Hardy might be nice for them both.

But the end result will be nothing. He'll come back with no return promo, win his first two matches, then lose and get lost in the shuffle.

Eh. The only spot for him IMO is ECW. We already have a little guy heel on SD! in Brian Kendrick. And helms would fit in well with the technically sound crew on ECW, as well as light it up in some impressive contests with Evan Bourne. The old Helms-Hardy feud can have another 100 matches at 100 straight PPVs for the ECW title too, ala 2006. Its hard for me to figure a niche for him besides some type of stable or team, since he didnt really have a great spot BEFORE he got hurt....

Was that really the case? The last I remembered of him was his great feud with Matt Hardy, then nothing after that. I knew he broke his neck, and it must of been one hell of an injury considering he's taken longer to come back from it than Kurt Angle, Edge, or any of the other injured neck victims.

I agree. He had a year long Championship reign as Cruiserweight Champ, and was having matches against the World Heavyweight Champion within that reign. Of course I believe the Champion was Batista at that time, so those matches were rather squash, but the fact is he was still big enough to get them and have the announcers attempt building them.

But a little feud with Jeff Hardy might be nice for them both.

But the end result will be nothing. He'll come back with no return promo, win his first two matches, then lose and get lost in the shuffle.

I'm unsure if a feud with Jeff Hardy would do for Gregory the same thing a feud with Matt Hardy did. Jeff and Gregory could have a decent ladder match, but in all honesty I doubt Helms will be getting anywhere near a gimmick match again. His neck would be too risky in a match such as ladder.

And a regular single's match between Jeff Hardy and Gregory Helms, to me, wouldn't be half as entertaining as what he had with Matt. I still remain solid in believing a Tag Team feud with Shannon as Helms partner, against the Hardys would be just what all four of them needed. Well, Jeff might get dragged down to it, but the others would all benefit from it, surely.

I was thinking a feud with Matt Hardy would work as they have great chemistry together, but a feud with Jeff could be better for Gregory perhaps.
And I'd like to see Shannon Moore as Gregory's manager, I'm not even suggesting that idea because I would like a gimmick change or a 3 count reunion, it would just be nice to see Shannon having something to do. He was a funny manager with Matt Hardy a few years back. Plus they could bring in that he has a relationship with the Hardys in real life, to help make a feud between Helms and one of the hardys seem more personal.

You make a great point with Kendrick being the "Helms" of Smackdown right now. And as big as I am on Kendrick for now, I wouldn't want that to be ruined.

Plus, as you also said, if Matt Hardy won the E.C.W. Championship, to be honest while it could be instantly viewed as a glorified mid-card title, I think Hardy v. Helms over the E.C.W. title could electrify that brand. Add Evan Bourne, John Morrison, The Miz and possibly even Elijah Burke and you got yourself a new version of the Cruiserweight division, without weight limit. Shit, you have the W.W.E. version of the X-Division!

Edge said he was never going to do another Ladder match after he returned from a neck injury. I didn't believe him at the time. I knew full well that he'd do anything to become a main event wrestler.

Broken necks are also part of being a wrestler. If you want to be one you just have to deal with it.

And a regular single's match between Jeff Hardy and Gregory Helms, to me, wouldn't be half as entertaining as what he had with Matt. I still remain solid in believing a Tag Team feud with Shannon as Helms partner, against the Hardys would be just what all four of them needed. Well there's no reason why they'd want to drag Jeff down. But Helms is charismatic, and Jeff isn't. Yet the fans love Jeff but are indifferent to Helms. It would probably help Helms more, but it wouldn't hurt Jeff.

Putting him with Moore would be a waste of time. Nobody cares about him. He doesn't have a wacky gimmick or anything.

Why not have him return on Raw, attacking Kofi Kingston, feuding with him for the ic title and winning it. That's the only way he is going to be able to compete for gold at all when he gets back, unless creative feels a guy who has only held tag and cruiserweight gold in the past few years (or his entire career [i.e. Chavo]) is ready for an ecw title feud with his former rival and the possible next ecw champion Matt Hardy, which to be honest I don't see happening. He wasn't considered much before he got injured, but he could be considered a bit more if booked right when he returns. I was hoping they would keep the u.s. title with Hardy for another few months before Helms returns for another feud between the two, but obviously that isn't happening. His chances of winning tag or u.s. gold on Smackdown now are completely gone, unless he somehow was able to beat a face for the u.s. title like Jeff, Kennedy or the soon to debut R-Truth (Ron Killings), who is apparently supposed to receive a big push on Smackdown when he gets there. As for the tag division, he might even get paired with Kenny Dykstra in a tag team or whatever if they have absolutely nothing else for him. Which would obviously help neither one of them. And as for a 3 Count reunion, won't happen. Shannon Moore is an all right wrestler, but what is he ever going to amount to now in the wrestling business? He's never even won cruiserweight or tag gold, so for him to ever get a push, he's got one of the biggest mountains to climb, he's like Funaki, only slightly more likely to ever be pushed again, and yet Funaki is also a former Cruiserweight Champion, lol. So, a feud between the Hardys and Helms/Moore wouldn't help any of them but Moore himself (and maybe Helms if he could get another tag title reign from it), it would be a step back for the Hardys, definitely. It's similar to when people were saying the Hardys should reunite to feud with London/Kendrick, how could that not be a step back for both the Hardys, even Matt at the time wouldn't have gained anything from it, seeing as they weren't ever going to win the wwe tag team titles from them.

But, anyway maybe if Helms wins the ic belt from Kofi, he can even form a stable with Rhodes/Dibiase or even someone like JBL, Y2J or Lance Cade. Who knows? And with the raw and ecw rosters travelling together eventually, they can have Helms defend the ic title against ecw guys, like Evan Bourne?
