Greatest World Title Reign

This thread isn't about a World Champ who held the title once and was the best, it is about the best singular World Title reign in wrestling history. An example would be of Flair's "sixteen"(could be more from what I read) World Title reigns, maybe his four was his greatest reign ever and was the best World Title reign ever. This isn't about length, it is more so about who drew and kept it interesting.

I am going with Hulk Hogans first title reign, off the top of the bat, just because he had many memorable matches and took wrestling to new heights. It might be someone else, but I couldn't think of any.

Samoa Joe's ROH World Title Run it lasted almost 2 years and he faced the best ROH had to offer and continuely defeated all of them Joe was unbeatable JOe had many memorible matches against CM Punk and Austin Aries . Joe took his Undefeated streak from ROH to TNA and never lost a match in 18 months in TNA . Oh B**CH please Joe would KILL Hogan in 3 Minutes Flat !!

I'm gonna have to go with Hogan as well. Only difference is I'm gonna go with his first NWO title reign. The image of him spray-painting the belt NWO cemented the faction as the biggest faction of the era.

Ya I agree. Hogan's first, wasn't my favorite, but i think it did have the most success . Could have ended better. Yes the tournament at WM 4 was great, but Imagine how over someone could have got, or been pushed had they come and beat Hogan clean and had a bit of a Run. Even Andre if he had it for a little longer than a few minutes . or DiBiase , he would be in the hall by now fore sure, had they ended that reign with Andre helping him beat Hogan instead of just handing it over,...

lol anyways Ya HOGAN's First really stands out in my mind.

Cena's First or even Cena's third. It was the longest reign in years. and he beat some good guys, and really carried the company

No question it's Hulk Hogan's reign from January 1984 to February 1988. It took wrestling to the mainstream. Wrestlemania was created and became THE wrestling pay per view. Saturday Night's Main Event was on NBC and got the highest ratings EVER, including any Attitude Era stuff. Hogan was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, the only professional wrestler ever to be featured on the cover. You can add up all of Ric Flair's 16 title reigns and they don't equal the impact of Hogan's during this time period. The WWF as we know it today was built on Hogan's back and this championship reign.

Hogan's first wins in a landslide for me. Not only did it last for like 4 years(I think) it also changed the landscape of wrestling. Not to mention he had many memorable matches during that time most notably his match with Andre at Wrestlemania III. No title reign meant more for professional wrestling than that one did which is why it gets my vote.

Outside of that Austin's first one would probably be it for me. His first reign really kick started the attitude era. Many people think the screwjob started it but I think when he won the title and the Austin era began it really started it.

Can't stand Hogan but I will have to agree. The nWo was huge. It made Vince take gambles maybe he wasn't comfortable with. Hogan taking the belt away from WCW and making nWo. WCW fans didn't care who got it back, but get it out of the nWo camp. Without the characters like Hall or Nash and a leader like Hogan (who made the best turn I have ever seen), the nWo would not have made Bischoff a "genius." (Let's be honest, most of Bischoff's ideas weren't all that great.) Turner's only chance came with Hogan carrying the title as a heel.

Im going to have to agree, and maybe rethink my Cena coment. its the best reign in the last few years for sure.

but this is for all time.
so yes HOGAN's first was the best. and his reigns in the NWO were classic. Remember the feud with Sting at Starcade , or when Goldberg, beat Hogan for the title. neither of those would have been so huge if it were not for such dominant reigns by Hogan.

Harts fifth WWE/ or WWF reign . might not be best of all time, but when the Hart Foundation was on top and Hart beat Taker at Summer Slam that was my fav.

I wasn't forgetting them, the WWE obviously started going more edgy before Austin's reign. Whether it was DX or even Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation, Bret was cussing and even called HBK a ****** on TV before anybody really used those words in the WWF and he was the first person to lay his hands on Vince and other high ranking officials so they added an edge as well. But Austin was the main guy in the attitude era and Austin vs. McMahon was the big storyline during it and his championship reign really kickstarted both of those which is why I said that it was the beginning of it.

Hulk Hogans first WWE title reign is the greatest ever title reign hands down!
There isn't one other wrestler who has had a title reign that even comes close to comparing to Hogans first reign as champion!

Here are the reasons:
-During that title reign, Hogan took wrestling into the mainstream almost instantly after capturing the title!
-The Wrestlemania phenomenon was built around Hulk Hogan the entire time he was in the company, but the bar was set at Wrestlemanias 1, 2 and 3 where Hogan main evented as champion, all of which occurred during this first title reign.
-Saturday nights main event was introduced as WWE's primetime tv show, and it drew the highest ratings in the history of wreslting! More than raw, nitro, nwo, attitude era and everything else! Just to give you an idea..Hogan v Andre on the main event- the match where Hogans first title reign ended had 33 million viewers, equalling a ratigng of 28.0!!!!!! The highest ever raw rating during the attitude era was an 8.1!
That rating is more than 3 1/2 times larger than anything else WWE has ever produced...including stars like Austin, Rock, DX, foley, Bret etc!
-The biggest match in wrestling history with the biggest indoor attendance in wrestling history occurred during that era...Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant at WM3! 93173! Never been duplicated!
-Hogan was so successful during that title reign that he had his own cartoon show!!
-The PPV buyrates during that title reign with Hogan main eventing were the highest WWE has ever seen! WM 3 drew a buyrate of 10.2!
7's, 6's and 5's in the buyrates followed!
The attitude era drew 2.5's - 2.8's at best! No comparison!
-During that era not only was Wrestlemania developed, but so was the Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Summerslam - WWE's 4 premier PPV's that still exist today! And they were all headlined by the WWE champion Hogan! They were built around him!
-Every other wrestling organisation while Hogan was champ from 84-88 went our of business, or struggled significantly! WWE became the best wrestling organisation through that one title reigns success!
-It is the longest title reign in modern wrestling history! 4 years and 1 month!
-The company experienced its greatest growth ever during Hogans first title reign...and all that success is attributed to Hogan and McMahon!

That is why Hogans first title reign is the greatest of all time!

Basically I can almost agree with what you say, but I look at it more of the fact the fans like him so he was built up quickly as McMahon could cash in on him..

But as far as the longest title reign in modern wrestling history? Give it a break, unles of course your defination of mordern starts when Hogan wins for the first time. You somehow forget that Hogan beat The Iron Sheik, who had only held the title for a month after beating Bob Backland, who had held the title for 5 years and 10 months, almost two years longer than Hogans reign.
Myself, I look at modern wrestling history as starting when WWWF was first formed.
Now if you want to talk about title reigns, Bruno Sanmartino defeated Buddy Rogers and held the title for 7 years, 8 months and 1 day.
I am not going to bring up the US title, or the Intercontinental Title, these two titles have a very short retention period as the US title has only been held for over a year on three occasions, and the Intercontinental only once it ws held for over a year.
But if all you are talking about is longevity, then a record that I can guarantee will never be broken is the title reign of the Fabulas Moolah, who held the womens title for 27 years 10 months and 5 days. And strangely, her title reign ended just five months before Bob Backlands ended, and 6 months before Hogan won for the first time.
SO if you want to talk about Modern history, then make sure you include everyone and all title reigns, not just starting when Hogan won.
Hogan did make the WWE what it is today, but so did the others. Sanmartino basically carried WWWF/WWF until he handed off to Backland, and then Backland carried WWF until it was handed off to Hogan
