Has Returned.
First off, no this is not a Cigar Lounge thread. This is actually for this section.

There's a lot of different people in many various movies and television series that have played the role of god, an angel / archangel or ultimately, Lucifer himself. All of them have done good at it in some manner. One that really stands out to me is the acting from Mark Pellegrino as the role of Lucifer in the television series Supernatural.

However I'm sure some don't agree, I'm sure some would much rather prefer the acting of say, Peter Stormare as Lucifer in Constantine, or who knows which one you prefer. That's the purpose of this thread.

So let's hear your opinions.

The one person who stood out as the devil for me is Ray wise's portrayal in Reaper.

Ray was less demonic more of a complete Jackass and a constant thorne in Sam's (Bret Harrison's) side.

He portrays the devil as he should be, a trickster, someone who plays for fun but will kill you in a heartbeat.

He's relentless and has no care in the world, this for me is the optimum of the big bad.

As for Peter Stormar's portrayal of the devil he played more of the tortoured soul, the shunned son that just wanted to get rid of the thing his father loved the most.

This I have seen alot in movies, television and even some anime's, however Stormar's was shocking, the tension you could cut between the devil, Sam and Dean with a knife.

As you say those who are scorned are more dangerous and he played his role well.

To me Mark Pellegrino was a perfect Lucifer, he was able to pull off being manipulative, sympathetic, angry, and a wide array of other emotions one would not usually associate with the devil. His character actually showed remorse for having to fight and kill his brothers, especially Gabriel and Michael. Sure at times he felt like a spoiled little emo kid but in essence isn't that what Lucifer really is? Also he is shown pwning the gods of other religions with ease and without remorse and then immediately shows sympathy and disdain for his brother for siding with the humans. This character was much more complex than the usual pure evil, unremorseful, and trickish little devil that he's been made to be in the mainstream, usually losing the fallen angel aspect.

That is exactly what I thought. He gives Lucifer a completely different aspect. To me Michael actually strikes me as the more evil one of them, he seems like he wants Lucifer to die, yet Lucifer just wants to rid the world of what he truly feels is an abomination.

The role that Mark has taken within Lucifer has been absolutely brilliant. However I must say I cannot leave out the role that Jared Padalecki plays as well. The first time we see him playing Lucifer was just so damn amazing that it had me almost feeling sympathy for him.

Supernatural to me really displays the angels and demons perfectly. The director has truly captured it, with numerous great actors to take position as archangels and demons. Jared however is my favorite of them all to play the religious godlike role.

Castiel was also a standout character, he was the only angel throughout the series to openly fall from heaven to support the Winchesters and their ideals whereas every other angel was just blindly following daddy's orders or turning to Lucifer's side. Castiel has to be God's favorite angel atm, he resurrected him not once but twice and fully restored his powers at the end of the season. It seemed like a good parallel with Lucifer's story except that Cas went against orders to save the humans that God loves so much whereas Lucifer fought a war against God and his orders to love humans more than God himself. Cas was a tortured free thinker and just when he was about to give the boys the info needed to stop the apocolypse at the end of the 4th season bigger brother forcefully takes him back to heaven for reprogramming. This show definitely added depth to the black and white views of angels, demons, and the devil.

I loved Al Pacino's performance as the devil in The Devil's Advocate, and sadly, this is probably the last watchable Pacino film. Pacino did such a great job at being the head of a law firm and the Devil at the same time. As usual, Pacino showed a great amount of intensity. The final showdown between him and Keanu Reeves was excellent. This was a very complex character(for obvious reasons) and Pacino was able to pull it off, and I can't think of anyone else who could've did a better job.

You had to know when you made this thread it wouldn't be long before you heard this response.

Al Pacino in Devils Advocate. He makes a number of masterful speeches throughout the movie, and at the end when he is really laying it on thick, his speech is enough to make you question your own faith even though you know your just watching a movie. It was insane and he played the role perfectly. His Lucifer was the best if you ask me.

Another celestial character that I thought was really good was Allan Rickman as Michael the Archangel in Dogma. His character was funny, but still wise, and he kind of poked fun at our ignorance when it comes to the divine. I like the movies overall message and he just made it that much better.

Going back to Satan, if you've ever seen the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie End of Days, Gabriel Byrne plays a damn good Satan in that movie too. The way he mentally tortures Arnold, and how viscous he is at times fills out the character rather well. His portrayal was great, and when you're watching him you kind of get to thinking "Damn, this guy seems like the real deal". The thing I don't get though is why the devil in any movie has to have a bunch of minions and followers to do his dirty work for him. We're talking about SATAN ok. Doesn't he already have some kind of supernatural powers he could use to vanquish his enemies and win the day? Sure, that makes for a less triumphant story, but it would seem more realistic at least. I just don't get it.

Honorable mention goes to John Leguizamo is as Clown/Violator in the movie Spawn. He saved the movie and made it bearable.

Alan Rickman's character in Dogma is the Metatron not Michael. Metatron is the "voice of God" in that when God needs to communicate with a living mortal God will call on the Metatron to relay the message, whatever it may be, because living mortals can't handle the sound of God's voice. Michael is quite different, he is God's ultimate angel weapon and head badass of badasses. We're talking about the guy that defeated the devil and threw him down into the pits of hell for God. In the case of Supernatural Michael is sort of like heaven's head quarterback and the most loyal and anal angel about carrying out God's will.
