Global Warning Tour

Slightly Autistic
Just browsing the old DVD collection the other day and came upon this little nugget. WWE's 2002 tour of Australia. I haven't watched it since I bought it, so I can't remember if it's any good. But I'd forgotten what matches were on that show. I turn the case over and to my delight I discover that it's got not one, but two matches that would be absolute dream matches were they to happen today. All on a house show. Whenever I go house shows I get a main event that wouldn't even get on Raw, and one the odd occasion that there is a proper main event I can kiss goodbye to a pinfall. But on this show you'ev got Edge vs. Jericho. Imagine how wet people would get over this match now. And you've got The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H in the main event. I'd forgotten how stacked Smackdown was in 2002.

Yes, Smackdown was very stacked at the time. The reason for the stacked card was that it was WWE's big return to Australia. They hadn't been here before that in 15 years. Hogan was advertised hard for the event, but decided he need to take time off.

Wow. this is the only thing in wrestling i know where i was when it happend. I had gone to melbourne on a holiday. Just before this match i saw Gregory helms for the first time. I loved wrestling back then but wasnt happy that it was there for a total of 12 hours. Where they had it, (the telstra dome) my football team was playing the next day and it almost got cancelled. I remember wanting to go see it but couldnt afford it becouse i had already budgeted my money.

The matches on this was classic i remember watching it a couple of years later. Edge vs Jericho would have to be one of the best matches on the card this match was actually the match that would get me liking edge. that one and a hell in a cell that was on or around the same time. I would love to see a rematch between the two.

I suppose the reason it was so big with high profile matches was becouse it was classed more as a ppv. (well over here anyway. you could go to most cinemas and watch it live) It was well advertised and the dome was packed for the event. if i remember correctly it was even the domes biggest non football or cricket event for that year.

That was the good old days, nowdays when the wrestling comes to AUS its not as well advertised and the matches are nothing, more expensive more crap.

What you have to remember is when they come to AUS they dont treat it like a house show. somebody told me it was dirt cheap to watch one, well over here they are like 250 for crap seats. so basically it was a PPV that wasnt aired anywhere else other then Australia.

I remember renting that DVD quite a while ago and I personally loved it. The matches were pretty good from what I can remember. The crowd was absolutely pumped for the triple threat main event. The WWE usually gives us Aussie's pretty good house shows. I went to a house show a few months ago and the matches I saw were pretty good. Sure it wasn't as good as the matches on this DVD but it was still good. The Edge vs Jericho match on the DVD was darn good. Its weird watching Edge get cheered so much particularly because I guess I'm used to seeing the guy as a heel.

Smackdown was awesome back then. The amount of talent that show had was unbelieveable. Its hard to believe we think Smackdown is stacked right now but Smackdown in 2002 makes the current Smackdown look like a piece of shit. From what I can remember it was a fun DVD that was a house show with commentating aswell?? I would buy that DVD if I ever see it at the stores.

I have this DVD as well actually and its very good. Edge vs Jericho and the main event are very entertaining. Another great bout on it was Rey Mysterio and Kidman vsChristian and Lance Storm for the tag titles.
