It probably would. You're right that its not Kimbo's fault, its Elite's matchmakers. Another huge problem with the event is that Thompson and Kimbo (a below average fighter vs a newcomer) Main Evented over a Middleweight Title fight. That shows zero confidence in the product and their champion. They were afraid that if Kimbo went on in the middle of the card, people would tune out.

I know Kimbo will work on his cardio, but the fact remains the EliteXc spoon fed him a victory on Saturday, which does no good for him (the crowd immediately turn on him) and no good for EliteXc (they are being bashed to no end by the MMA community).

I still think they did thompson a favor by stopping it........from what I saw he was finished.........and if the ref didn't stop it Kimbo was leading on my scorecard anyway,he was landing more shots, doing more damage, and reversing submissions and reversing full-mount position several times,I thought the fight elevated Kimbo........and people tuned in for kimbo not the middle-weight fight,so you can't blame CBS for that, but Elite's broadcast got crushed in quality compared to the Faber vs. Pulver card last nite my god some of the most action packed fights I've seen on cable television!!!!

Kimbo was completely dominated in the second round, so the fight had to be a tie at best going into the third. The ref also stood up Thompson when he had side control, something that should rarely ever happen. Thompson passed Kimbo's guard and the ref gave him about 20 seconds to work before standing them up. Thats complete BS as Thompson had over two minutes to finish Kimbo on the ground. The more i think about it, the more I think the ref and judges were looking for anyway possible to give Kimbo a win. I know people tuned in to see Kimbo, which is my main argument as to why Elite XC sucks.

I agree that WEC was a far better broadcast. Had that been on CBS MMA would be in a much better light right now.

I didn't catch much of the EliteXC event because of a prior commitment, but it looked second-rate to me. I did watch all of the WEC event, and it was by far the best I have seen from that company. Faber vs Pulver was great, and the Torres fight was just as good. Asid from that joke of a first match with Razor Rob, all in all a great show. If they do Pulver Faber 2 like they talked about in the post fight interview, it will be even better.

Slim I wouldnt hate so badly on this guy man. He is a huge character, with a wonderfull story/. This is what your sport needs, do draw money, and new fans. I was persoanlly pissed that I missed this, as I wanted to see dude go. You gotta take the good with the evil man. I mean MMA itslef has never been on network televison, but there it was...and who was headlining??? All damn fucking day today, every hour, they have been talking about this guy, this fight. Ive never seen MMA covered like this EVER before. this should mean something.

I've seen MMA covered like this before. The Chuck Rampage fight was on ESPN all month as were highlights after. In every other country MMA is huge. Plus, the UFC sells out stadiums in a day. This was a 6,000 seat stadium for the Kimbo fight.

The fact that it was the first time on network TV IS what pisses me off. This whole event was a joke and took MMA in the wrong direction. Kimbo has no business MEing any event, its just that Elite XC is so bad that he is a better draw than anyone there. Elite XC is the ROH of MMA and Kimbo is their Danielson. He's their main guy but if you stack him up against the guys from the big organizations (UFC- the WWE of MMA) he's a nobody.

I don't hate Kimbo the person, he's genuinly good hearted from what I've seen. I do however, hate how he has called out many top names to sign with Elite and fight him, when he knows they never could. The reason they cannot is because they are fighting better talent in a bigger organization.

Yea I do recall the Rampage-Liddel coverage around this same time last year. But that was one fight man. People will continue to tune in and see KImbo fight. Until he loses, his enigma will continue to grow, I understand what you are saying about the wrong attention, the wrong fans, the wrong direction. But truth is, there realy isnt a such thingThe only reason you cant say all this, is becuase you actually know what you are talking about. But all the new veiwers are tuning into see a human cockfight, with big characters. And thats what they get with Kimbo.

True, but thats for, as long as Kimbo stays undefeated. Short of rigging a fight, or favoring him as they did on Saturday, he won't stay undefeated. The fact is, Kimbo nearly lost to a nobody and needed every advantage the organization would give him (ref standups, lackluster opponent with a pre-existing injury) and once he won in a contraversial manner, the crowd quickly turned on him.

The fact is Kimbo is getting hype, but the sport is still in a stage where it is trying to get sanctioned in all states (its still banned in NY and some others), so its the wrong kind.

Also, his strike are only powerful. He's not accurate or defense, something even the most basic stand up artists have.

EliteXC just helped to set the entire fucking sport back a few years because of Gary Shaw's shortsighted nature. Of all of the cards he could've used to debut on TV, he chose Kimbo to spearhead the effort. FUCKING DUMB. First of all, Kimbo is being trained by Rutten. Great. So are a bunch of other guys. That doesn't mean that every one of them should be force-fed to the clueless masses that still think MMA has no rules. Not to mention that the whole lineup of fighters they could get for Kimbo to face are all pathetic. Besides, anyone with a Youtube account can see Kimbo get his ass kicked by Sean Gannon for free (and we all saw just what happened to Gannon upon entering the UFC on his supposed "reputation"...two weeks in a fucking hospital bed courtesy of an undercarder). James Thompson is entertaining in a "Pride undercard circus fight" sort of way, but there is no way he belongs on top billing here in the states and even against the lowest of the low in the UFC, he'd likely end up on a stretcher.

It should have been Antonio Silva...but then again, he would've kicked the shit out of Kimbo, so I'm not a lick surprised. With New York being the final straw in the UFC's battle to spread MMA nationwide, this shitty match was the perfect ammunition for MMA's detractors to use against them when it comes to regulating and legalizing it in the most important of all of the states.

The smarter thing would've been to throw the KJ Noons/Yves Edwards fight on air or deal with Scott Coker and Strikeforce to maybe secure the Fickett/Shields fight, Gilbert Melendez or even a Cung Le or Frank Shamrock fight down the line. EliteXC has some solid competitors on their roster, but selling out the sport for the quick entertainment buck is the absolute dumbest fucking thing they could've done because it definitely doesn't showcase the best part of the sport, nor the best part of EliteXC's roster.

I can understand why people are upset, but I enjoyed the show personally.

Carano vs. Young was by far FOTN. Carano is fucking hot, and bad ass too. I mean, I seriously would reproduce with her. I was so glad she won. Other than Frank Shamrock, Nick Diaz and Cung Le, she’s by far the best thing about EliteXC and my favorite fighter there. Also, just to point it out.... had that fight gone to a third, I'm sure Carano would've won by either KO or decision. I've seen people bitch about that stoppage, even as going as far as comparing it to the Kimbo fight.

Lawler vs. Smith was a great fight until the bullshit ending. The crowd was pissing me off too. What a bunch of annoying ********s.

I was sooo fucking happy to Baroni get his ass kicked after that lame ass entrance. He made a mockery of the sport there. Fucking douchebag.

And I think Kimbo had Thompson beat personally, but at the same time, Kimbo WAS exposed and if he’s put in there with someone whose style revolves around a ground game, then he’s in deep shit. I really thought that training with Bas Rutten for over a year he would’ve learned something by now, but all the dude showed while he was on the ground was brute strength and that he can take a beating. There was no skill or talent there whatsoever. He also showed his gas tank runs very low.

HOWEVER, Bret Rogers is a PERFECT match-up for Kimbo. That dude is strictly a stand-up fighter with zero ground game, and his punches look sloppy as fuck. Kimbo would destroy him, in my opinion. Gary Shaw would be nuts not to book that fight next. Rogers looks good right now and Kimbo beating him would finally give Kimbo some legit cred.

Anyway... all in all though, like I said, I enjoyed the show for the most part. Was it as good as the WEC show the following night? No, not even close, but I was still entertained.

wow what a complete contrast in production and overall cards this past weekend with XC and WEC.....now I know this is a wrestling board and all but the elite XC entrances were just that....wrestling entrances basically and having women dance around in booty shorts was completely pointless (not that I don't like it) but ad after ad was shown and after the first 45 minutes we saw about 5 minutes of actual action

Now as much as I hate to say this I agreed with the announcers about one thing during the card lawler-smith had the chance to be elite XC's griffin-bonnar but the ending was horrible as smith wasn't giving his full five minutes to recover...

kimbo-thompson essentially want they planned to do with kimbo, generate buzz and talk because whether you hate him or love him he's doing what XC wanted and that was to get people talking about kimbo and their company anyways onto that fight....i had it tied 19-19 after the second round and to be honest there shouldn't have even been a third round how can any referee allow a man to recieve over 45 unanswered elbows and hammer fists for almost a minute and a half? and how can he stand it up when one guy is in side control? are you freaking kidding me?????? and the stoppage was totally unjustified, supposedly this guy is almost about to be knocked out or as one dude up above put it killed but yet he's still coming forward? hmmm I spell conspiracy haha

faber-pulver....absolutely amazing it makes you wonder if faber is at least considering attempting to make a jump to 155 in the next year or so to lightweight in the UFC but i think he could be a serious contender but faber vs BJ? no way penn would easily beat him but i think he would be pretty good against the rest of that division or in a perfect world the UFC would create a featherweight division

and wow torres/maedea!?!?!?!?! i'd love to see that fight again but go the distance

The Event to Watch on July 19th

Afflicition Banned featuring the fight between Fedor and Sylvia has such a stacked undercard that I cannot see anyone with half a brain choosing to watch the free UFC event on Spike TV rather than this PPV. I don't believe I've seen a more complete card since PRIDE Shockwave 2006.

The sad thing is, people are attracted to the UFC name and not the sport as a whole. The UFC PPV's with Main Events like Andre Arlovski vs Paul Bentello and an undercard with no name veteran vs ultimate fighter reject always sold better than PRIDE in the states. Why? because it was called UFC. Do yourself a favor, ditch the UFC for one week and watch the best fighter in the world defend his title against a tall challenger after watching the best undercard the states has ever offered rather than watching the UFC's best fighter take on a average fighter with a embarrassing undercard.

News on "Rampage"

We reported here yesterday that UFC star Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was arrested at gunpoint yesterday in California after crashing into 2 cars, fleeing the scene and leading police on a 5-minute car chase. He was charged with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest and was taken to a hospital last night for evaluation. New details have surfaced regarding the incident.

TMZ.com reports that Rampage was on the 55 Freeway in Orange County, California when he hit 2 cars. Instead of stopping, he got off the freeway and the police chase was on. Rampage then began driving on the center divider. According to the police report, Jackson then drove on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee for their lives." He started driving the wrong way on a crowded street, colliding with yet another car in an intersection. It's not over yet.

As he continued on, running several red lights, his tire blew out and he began driving on the rim. He eventually got to Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, where he again driving on the sidewalk, "causing pedestrians to flee in terror."

His car eventually came to a stop and he was taken into custody at gunpoint. Cops took him to the Orange County Jail, but they determined he was "medically unfit" to be booked. No word on whether drugs were involved. Rampage is currently under evaluation at an Orange County hospital.

In an interview conducted with Throwdown TV just 24 hours before the incident ,Rampage seemed a little off, but revealed that he had been battling
depression, injuries as well as sleep and weight issues in recent weeks.

Well.........UFC's image has been damaged by this me thinks.Roid rage perhaps?Maybe spiraled down after losing the belt?Does anyone think UFC will back him or let him come back?

A report just came out that he has been taken to the hospital again. His friends were hanging out with him and they flagged down a cop car. They said he was acting weird and the cops deemed him a threat to himself and others.

When I first read the report of the hit and run, I thought "what an idiot." His truck has a picture of him on the side, there was no way he was getting out of that. Now, with this new information, its seems more of a sad mental disorder, to a great fighter.

I fear the bad publicity this will bring the sport. Think of a lesser degree to the Benoit response that wrestling got, that is what we are looking at.

okay this def isn't roid rage anyone who follows rampage pretty well knows he's a big advocate against steroids and I def wouldn't even put this anywhere near the benoit tragedy, yes it's a black eye for the sport but not benoit like, rampage is depressed and going through some serious mental issues right now but he'll get throughit all and hopefully we see him back in the cage again soon a better stronger Rampage Jackson.

Now onto some other upcoming news and events going on in the world of mma:
Affliction this saturday has the potential to be one of the best cards ever. The UFC and Dana white are trying to take away some viewers by having a fight night with anderson silva making his 205 debut against heavy hitter james irvin. Now personally I thought about skipping affliction and just watching fight night but really look at fight nights card out side of silva/irvin and edgar/franca there really aren't any great fights on the card but when you look at the affliction card top to bottom it's 5-star plus if you wanna see both order affliction and then watch the fight night replay at 12 haha

I'm not gonna lie I'm not all that excited for ufc 87 or 88 but I've all ready got my eyes on UFC 89 which is supposed to be shown free on spike with a couple of GREAT fights: Michael Bisping/Chris Leben, Lyoto Machida/Thiago Silva, and also a rumored fight between Diego Sanchez/ Karo Paryisian on the card too

So you are not pumped for an up and comer like Lesnar or the worlds best figher in GSP defending his belt, but you are excited for Bisping vs Leben. Thats the biggest garbage main event not involving Kimbo Slice ever.

I'm heading to the Target Center, which is ten minutes from my house on that night and couldn't be more pumped. I have two tickets to the weigh in and get to meet a couple of the fighters. I've met Brock a number of times so that is no big deal, but I can't wait to meet GSP and Heath Herring. The undercard has Heurta vs Florian as well, so I think UFC 87 is actually one of the better cards they have put on this year. 89 will be lackluster because its in the UK and UFC never goes all out while they are there.

I hate GSP and I hoenstly think his fight is a joke as it's just a way to kill time before him and BJ Penn fight again at the end of the year/beginning of next year and really yeah Lesanr's being pumped up in a lackluster heavyweight division if I wanna watch some real heavyweights I'll watch Affliction (which I'm doing by the way) seriosuly look at UFC's heavyweights outside of Big Nog there aren't any top tier guys in the heavyweight division and don't try and tell me Frank Mir is a top tier guy yeah he has great jui-jitsu but he's not the type of guy your gonna have headline a PPV by himself basically there are two or three fighters in the HW division Couture (even though he's pretty much done with UFC) , Big Nog, and Lesnar. Also, How do you have GSP as the top fighter in the world maybe top-5 but def not THE to guy:Fedor,Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, then GSP, and Couture. In that order too.
How can you think 89 will be garbage but 88 wont? Dana White is trying to feed Chuck Liddell Rashad Evans and then you have Rich Franklin moving up to a crowded 205 to fight Matt Hamil...yes thats loads better then Michael Bisping in the biggest fight in his 185lb career against Chris Leben and two top 205-ers not to mentioned undefeated Lyoto Machida taking on Thiago Silva, Diego Sanchez taking on Thiago Alves, Sokoudjou against Luis Cane, plus the debut of Dan hardy not to mention it's gonna be free I'll take ufc 89 over 87 which has three fights that are worth watching and three fights on 88 so you can have gsp and chuck liddell and brock lesnar I'd rather watch 89 then both 87/88

Bisping is a joke. The guy was spoon fed a win over Matt Hamill and is now fighting Leben, who couldn't even beat Kalib Starnes.

Fedor is probably the best fighter in the world, but its hard to keep him ranked number one when he hasn't fought top competition in two years. GSP is fighting Jon Fitch, who is the next highest ranked welterweight, thats a way more interesting fight than Bisping/Leben. The UFC continues to push Michael so that they can keep the UK market. Thats what that whole event is for. Its free in the states because no one will pay for it.

87 has a solid title fight main event and two interesting undercard fights. UFC 88 is horrid. Its proof that the UFC just puts Chuck Liddell in the octagon and surrounds him with shit, knowing half the fans will buy it just for him.

Bisping clearly lost the fight against Hamil no doubt but at 185 whether you hate him or love him and I don't like Bisping to begin with but anyways he's looked great at 185 so far and the Leben that fought Kalib Starnes is a completely diff guy then he is now, I've talked with Chris and he's more focused then ever and also I talked to Nate Quarry a good friend of leben's and he said that chris is more focused and determined then ever and I can see it being a complete slug fest and then getting to watch machida/silva & alves/sanchez are gonna be amazing technical fights top to bottom 89>87

Fedor is still the type fighter in the world and he'll prove that once again this saturday against tim sylvia and I think that liek I said before, I don't see GSP/Fitch as anything more then a way to keep GSP fresh until he goes at Bj around february

I really don't see how having GSP put his title on the line against Jon Fitch, who isn't exactly a can, is just a way to "keep him fresh". Fitch hasn't lost a fight since 2002. He's on a 15 fight win streak, and it isn't like the Welterweight division is currently a hotbed for top competition. It should also be noted that as a Welterweight, Fitch is undefeated. His only two losses came as a light-heavyweight. He also trains with Josh Koscheck, who put up a hell of a fight against GSP at UFC 74. Chances are, GSP is going to win, but I wouldn't underestimate Fitch here. Fitch/GSP headlines a very solid card.

Lesnar/Herring is a major test for Lesnar. It's also a test I think he's going to pass with flying colors. Remember, Brock was pounding the crap out of Mir, and was completely caught off-guard by Mir's kneebar. I don't think Brock will be in that situation again. I'm sure he's been working on his ground game as well. It's going to be a hell of a fight.

Huerta vs. K-Flo is going to be a very exciting matchup where the winner will most likely get a shot at BJ Penn for the Lightweight Title. K-Flo's been riding a wave of momentum, and Huerta returns after his layoff. This could easily be the fight of the night.

The other two bouts feature a match between up and comers Manny Gamburyan and Rob Emerson, and a match featuring Damian Maia, who is loaded with potential.

UFC 87 is a much better card than UFC 86 was, and is definitely worth the money.

UFC 89 is so much of a joke that it's being featured on free television on tape delay. They've aired live cards on PPV from England before, so they know this card isn't exactly a strong one. Bisping/Leben could be the worst main event put on in quite some time. Either way, Bisping is going to win either because Leben sucks, or he'll get gifted another decision by the biased English judges. Machida vs. Alves features two guys who are undefeated, but are very boring. I'm glad Soukodjou is going to be on the card, as well as Sherk. The undercard features Lytle, Stout, and Marcus Davis... but UFC 89 is nowhere close to being the excellent top to bottom card that UFC 87 is. Don't kid yourself on that.

Fedor vs. Arlovski is confirmed.
Longtime PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko (28-1) and former UFC heavyweight title-holder Andrei Arlovski (13-5) -- the biggest winners and clear-cut fan favorites at this past weekend's "Affliction: Banned" event -- will headline the rookie organization's next show on Oct. 11.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports was the first to confirm the date and heavyweight main event.

As we previously reported, a Nov. 8 date and Atlantic City location had been under consideration, but instead, Affliction will head to Las Vegas for a show at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus.

Formal announcement of the show is expected on Tuesday, according to Yahoo! Sports.

During this past weekend's event, Atencio never tipped his hand about a possible trip to Las Vegas when asked about a second event.

"When? The beginning of November," Atencio said. "Where? We haven't finalized that yet. We're still looking at a couple different locations."

It'll now be Las Vegas, which is home to the world's top mixed-martial-arts promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Affliction debuted July 19 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., with "Banned," an event that drew 14,832 attendees for a live gate of $2.1 million (though Affliction purchased $500,000 worth of the tickets).

On Wednesday, Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the debut event garnered "well over" 100,000 pay-per-view buys, which if true, would be a major accomplishment for a non-UFC promotion.

However, given a hefty fighter payroll of more than $3.3 million, Atencio said things will be toned down for the second show.

"I'm going to make some adjustments in the next fight, and we'll take it from there," Atencio said. "If we want this to be a viable business, we have to make some changes."

At "Banned" Emelianenko scored his biggest win in three years with a 36-second drubbing of Tim Sylvia. Arlovski, meanwhile, needed nearly three rounds to score a stunning KO a resilient Ben Rothwell.

For the latest on Affliction II, stay tuned to the MMA Rumors section of MMAjunkie.com.

So what do you guys think about this? I think Arlovski/Fedor has potential to be an outstanding heavyweight fight, and I think it's totally in the realm of possibility that Arlovski upsets. Arlovski is way too good to get caught in the same trap Tim Sylvia did, and at the least, he's going to give Fedor a fight he's going to have to work to win for, which is something he hasn't done in quite some time. Babalu also came out and said he wanted Tito Ortiz as well, and I'm sure that matchup would be incredibly exciting to watch.

I think what's very notable too is the fact that this event is schedule for October 11. UFC 89 falls on the 18th, and UFC 90 falls on the 25th. That's three major MMA cards in three consecutive weeks. I think it's also notable that Dana might not be able to counter with another UFN. I don't think he wants to even think about running three major cards in a month, nevermind the fact that two of them would be free.

If there is one thing Affliction has shown, its that they are not afraid to stack cards with top talent rather than putting on 12 average shows a year. Dana wants to counter with another fight night, but it would be TUF rejects yet again. Silva is going to be tied up at UFC 88 and Forrest wouldn't be wasted with a TV title match.

After hearing Dana White on the radio and on MMA site interviews, it is clear he is afraid of Affliction. He said Fedor is "ok." Really? Destroying your former two time champ in 36 seconds is OK. He then went on to bash Affliction's clothes calling anyone who where them a ***. Thats right, the president of a company called people **** on live radio. That to me shows how afraid he is that this promotion put on a solid card and got good buyrates in their first event.

As for this fight, Arlovski right now, probably posses a bigger threat than Randy Couture. Randy is the popular choice that everyone wants to see, but Affliction and WAMMA are about having the rankings play a role. I know Couture is the UFC champ, but Arlovski just destroyed Rothwell and hasn't lost since the Tim Sylvia jab fest. He deserves a shot just as much as Randy, he also stands more of a chance. Andrei can keep Fedor on the feet while Randy would more than likely get KO'd going for a takedown.

I would love to see Babalu fight Ortiz. Hell, I would love to see Ortiz fight in Affliction against whoever. I don't hate the UFC, I just want a return to the glory days of PRIDE vs UFC.

I'm completely with you... competition is always a good thing, and I really feel that it's a matter of time before Tito gets signed to Affliction because of his relationship with Donald Trump.

I like Dana a lot, he seems like he's a genuinely awesome guy and he's also from the New England area. The thing is, when he starts talking about the competition, he needs to bite his tongue a little bit. If Fedor is "just ok", then why did he try like hell to sign him, and backed out when negotiations went south not because of Fedor, but because of his manager? I think he also talked crap about the IFL and their fighters, saying something like he'd never sign their fighters due to them being bushleague. He just signed two IFL guys who were brothers.

If Dana does schedule another UFN, he does have one out that would make people tune in to watch, and that's the fact that Shogun Rua hasn't fought since the Griffin fight. People would watch if he got Shogun to main event the UFN, and filled the card up with guys like Dolloway, Sedollah, and Jesse Taylor.

Seeing as he is putting on a fight night with Nate Diaz as the main event, I wouldn't doubt he puts Sedollah as the main event of an UFN that goes head to head with Affliction. Dana's flaw is that he loves his ultimate fighter show too much. They hype those fights not realizing people know that most of those fighters don't matter. Remember when they had Rashad Evans vs Michael Bisping as the main event of a PPV. It had the lowest buyrate of any UFC PPV since 51. Affliction is being smart and putting on stacked cards like the UFC used to. Now, its up to Dana and the UFC front office to retaliate. The winner by unanimous decision will be us.

^Definitely. He loves the show way too much...and although I enjoy watching it myself, it's been routinely fucking up every title division in which the coaches compete for the last three seasons (counting the upcoming Nog/Mir version). It puts the championship on hold and leaves two of the corresponding division's best fighters on the shelf for way too damn long.

Dana White is a douchebag who is in Fedor Denial. It still has to piss Dana off something fierce that Fedor understands his worth and wouldn't kowtow to the UFC's horrible contract terms which borderlined slavery. Then, Dana sees two of his top heavies (Arlovski and Sylvia) take off and then a two-time former UFC champ in Sylvia takes a galactically large ass-beating in less time than it takes for me to get up and take a piss. So in less than a year-and-a-half Dana has managed to squander his heavyweight division and see the likes of Fedor, Couture, Arlovski, Sylvia, and Crocop slip through his fingers. Affliction only exists because Dana allowed it to. Oh, and don't forget the Couture situation. If Randy gets to leave, Dana will be kicking his own ass for letting the biggest MMA fight of all time slip through his fingers. But hey...at least we get to see a "deserving" Frank Mir get a shot at the substitute teacher Nogueira sometime before the end of this year.
