PRELIM FIGHT RESULTS

Fight #1:
-Luke Cummo vs. Josh Haynes

Round 1: Good first round. Haynes started off aggressive on the feet, throwing huge punches and solid leg kicks. Haynes got Cummo down but backed up to his feet. Cummo hurts Haynes with a combo on the feet.

Round 2: Cummo comes out with combos on the feet. Haynes is getting beat up and not doing much back. Cummo lands a huge punch that floors Haynes. The ref immediately stopped it. Haynes was out of it to the point that he tackled the referee.

Luke Cummo def. Josh Haynes via KO (punch) at 2:45 of Round 2.

Fight #2:
-Pete Spratt vs. Marcus Davis

Round opens with Davis taking Spratt down. Davis passed to side mount and takes Spratt's back after a scramble. Davis secures a body triangle but can't get the rear naked. As the round ends, Spratt escapes and finishes the round pounding on Davis.

Round 2: Spratt comes out guns blazing here in the second, before taking Davis down and working some ground and pound. However, Davis gets a leg and forces the tap out due to ankle lock submission.

Marcus Davis def. Pete Spratt via Submission (ankle lock) at 2:57 of Round 2.

Fight #3:
-Pete Sell vs. Thales Leites

Round 1: Leites starts the round off with a takedown. Leties working effective ground and pound before passing Sell's guard and taking his back. He's working for the rear naked, but Sell does good avoiding. They scramble up but Leites gets him down and in side control. Leites locks in an arm triangle, but Sell survives as the horn sounds to end the round.

Round 2: Leites lands a leg kick and big right hand in the beginning of the second. Sell goes for a standing guillotine, but drops to half guard. Leites gets out and lands some brutal ground and pound. Leites works an arm triangle, but no dice. Leites finished the round strong with bombs on top of Sell. Almost finished him, but we go to the final round.

Round 3: Leites dominates again. Got a takedown about half way through the round and just dominated on top the entire round. He was improving positions and working effective strikes from the top.

Thales Leites def. Pete Sell via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.

Fight #4:
-Heath Herring vs. Brad Imes

Round 1: Herring drops Imes flat on the ground with a huge left punch. Herring was dominating Imes badly on the ground with strikes for a likely 10-8 first round.

Round 2: Herring is landing at will on the feet. Imes is knocked down again by a punch. Herring lets him back up and then takes him down. Imes does some damage at the end, but still a Herring round.

Round 3: Imes scores with a punch and bullies Herring against the cage. Herring gets out, but Imes lands a knee. Herring has Imes on the ground in side control, and north south. Herring is knee'ing Imes in the shoulder on the ground. Ref stops action for a questionable knee to the head. Back on the feet, Herring lands a good body kick and Imes is just trying to land back, but isn't much. Herring takes down Imes and finishes the round on top.

Heath Herring def. Brad Imes via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.

LIVE PPV FIGHTS

Fight #5:
-Kendall Grove vs. Alan Belcher

Round 1: Not a terribly exciting first round. Probably a Grove round. He had a thai clinch several times and landed good kness to the body and thigh. He got a takedown at one point as well.

Round 2: Much better round. Grove opened Belcher up very baldy with elbows. He was bleeding pretty good. Grove was defending all the takedowns. He finished him in the end of the round with something like a chest-smother ala Ricco Rodriguez and Giant Ochai in early PRIDE days, but from half-guard.

Kendall Grove def. Alan Belcher via Submission (choke) at 4:42 of Round 2.

Fight #6:
-Mike Swick vs. Yushin Okami

Round 1: Not a great first round. A lot of feeling out, with neither guy landing much. Swick gets in too close and Okami gets him down and controls the rest of the round with ground and pound. He was landing good elbows and almost had a kimura at the end of the round. 10-9 Okami.

Round 2: Awesome action to close the round. Similar early on. A lot of slow exchanges on the feet, with nothing landing. Okami got him down twice, the second time the ref restarted too quick. On the feet with like 20 seconds left, Swick went nuts with strikes and almost had Okami out.

Round 3: 10-8 Okami. Total domination to finish the fight. The two were passive standing outside a few good exchanges. Okami gets Swick down and pulverizes him with ground and pound the entire round. Swick sweeps and gets on top in Okami's guard, but Okami controlled him from the bottom to ride the round out.

Yushin Okami def. Mike Swick via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Dana White is in the cage now with a big announcement. He mentions acquiring PRIDE and putting on Superbowl-like fights. Dana announces a new signing for the Heavyweight division, former PRIDE champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira! Nogueira is coming out now to the traditional UFC ring-walk music. Joe Rogan asks him how he feels about coming to UFC, Nog says he's excited to come to the U.S. and show his skills. Crowd is giving him a nice reception during his interview, unlike Okami who was boo'd for talking through a translator. Nogueira is talking about fighting CroCop and getting a title shot, and promises to show the U.S. fans good Heavyweight jiu-jitsu.

Fight #7:
-Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia

Round 1: Amazing first round. Both going insane on the feet with strikes, with Huerta getting the better. On the ground, Huerta on top was pounding the hell out of Garcia, but he'd scramble out and wind up on top. Awesome round, but definitely Huerta's.

Round 2: Holy shit. We got at least 10 people over here watching the PPV, and this round made them go nuts to the point that the cops gotta be coming for a noise complaint soon. I'll keep you updated. Garcia is the REAL DEAL! Very good round, but still Huerta's. Although much closer than the first. Garcia is a fucking animal.

Round 3: Amazing fight. Not as great a round as the first, nowhere close to the second, but by normal-fight standards - still a good round. Huerta dominated though this one, and should win a decision easily.

Roger Huerta def. Leonard Garcia via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.

Fight #8:
-Diego Sanchez vs. Josh Koscheck

Round 1: Koscheck all the way. Outside of one leg kick late in the round, Sanchez landed nothing. Koscheck was trying high kicks, landing jabs and one really good right hand. Koscheck took Sanchez down with 15 seconds left.

Round 2: Another Koscheck round, although very boring. Nothing much of note happened, other than pitty-patter shots mostly from Koscheck. Koscheck landed a mean jab late and missed a couple brutal high kicks.

Round 3: Should be a clean sweep for Koscheck. Another boring round. Nothing to write. After it ended, Koscheck did the same thing as on Ultimate Fighter when he beat Chris Leben, and Sanchez didn't look happy. Oh well, Sanchez did literally nothing the entire 15 minutes. Koscheck didn't do much either, but he did more and what he did actually landed now and then.

Josh Koscheck def. Diego Sanchez via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.

Fight #9:
-Georges St. Pierre (c) vs. Matt Serra (UFC WW Title)

Round 1: HOLY SHIT! Serra knocks out St. Pierre! NO I'M NOT JOKING! Close round early, Serra flurries late and hurts St. Pierre. GSP couldn't recover and Serra went insane with punches, landing more big bombs before flooring St. Pierre and following up for the finish.

Matt Serra def. Georges St. Pierre via TKO (strikes) at 3:25 of Round 1 to become the new UFC Welterweight champion.

Just 2 days away from "The Ice Man" will have avenged all of his loses he will easily defeat a some what washed up (he fights like a street fighter easy to work around) Quinton "Rampage" Jackson remember this isnt 2003 its 2007 and Chuck has definetly changed into the best fighter in the world not just in the Light Heavyweight division

Well, everyone, it looks like the shoe is truly on the other foot. Every Pride fan has a reason to be well...proud. Quentin Jackson did the unthinkable and whipped the piss out of Chuck tonight and I couldn't be happier. My favorite part of the fight was when Chuck asked his cornerman "what happened?" Priceless. The reaction I was really looking for was Dana White's. And now we get to see Rampage take on Hendo up next. Hendo will likely put the hurting on Rampage...but what's new? Rampage didn't fare well at all in Pride in his last several outings (especially against anyone from Chutebox). What a good card tonight, but the highlight is still seeing Dana's posterboy bite the big one to a second line Pride fighter who's apparently always had Chuck's number.

It couldnt have been easier to KO Chuck this fight, i should have fought him i'd take the pay, but seriously he went down so bad that his champion credibility has shot down about 20 percent, now Liddell has to work his way back up the ladder because this isnt the WWE and the Champion doesnt get an instant rematch

I was actually kind of depressed about the whole thing, in reality. I'm not a detractor of Liddell's and I actually figured he would come out on top this time. Instead of looking like Mr. Dream, he looked like Glass Joe. Hopefully this sets up the match I've been dying to see: Wanderlei vs. Chuck. That would be a slugfest of epic proportions. The funny thing is that now with the Pride guys coming in, it displays just how easy of a plate Dana had loaded for Chuck to keep him on top. I'd rather see a title change hands every other fight than watch a guy keep the belt and beat shoe-ins or gross mismatches that are designed to keep him in the driver's seat. Besides, Chuck had zero excuses this time out. He just got his ass whupped.

True Injury free, mentally clean there wasnt anything that he could say or do o change the fact that he did get dropped but he'll stand back up dust himself off and KO Wanderlei like i know deep down he really can do i mean come on if second rate Mirko could do it that easy then Liddell should have no problems beacuse Wanderleis fighting style plays right into Chuck Liddell's hand Liddell is a counter fighter and Wanderlei comes always straight forward it will be when not if he catches Silva (if the fight ever happens)

Okay, the impossible has happened.

I've become a huge MMA fan. And this is a very large stretch for someone like myself who has spent most of his life ragging on MMA as being boring and stupid. But after watching a lot of Ultimate Figher, PRIDE, old school Pancrase & No Holds Barre UFC (before they got all these pussy new rules) and right now as I type this I'm watching IFL Battleground on Fox.

And holy shit I think I'm addicted. It's just so entertaining to watch; I think I just always held a grudge against MMA because of its stature as being much more respected in the sports world then wrestling is and the fact that it is the big threat to the wrestling business these days.

But man was I wrong. Dead wrong. Of all the guys I've seen so far, my favorite without a doubt has to be Dan Severn. His old school stuff was just fuckin' crazy, the dude is NUTS and always has been. And damn, I was already a big fan of his for his underrated wrestling career whilst he was the NWA champ.

MMA is the shit.

Any reccomendations for classic matches, shows, what good leagues to watch or PPVs to catch? I'd appreciate it a ton. :D

Any Fedor matches...especially his encounter against Kevin Randleman. Mirko Crocop if you want to see some good head kicking. Takanori Gomi for solid punches. If you haven't already seen the Don Frye/Takayama brawl, check it out. Also, Wanderlei Silva has some insane highlights. Especially his fights against Rampage Jackson. I pray that Dana lets Chuck fight Wandy. That'd make my millenium to finally see that. Plus, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua puts on some pretty good fights. Otherwise, if you file share or torrent, get a hold of any of the UFCs as you can find at least a decent match in each one, but for the competitive spirit and quality of action I always favor Pride.

And X, don't ever feel that MMA gets more respect than wrestling. Boxing promoters and most sportscasters (who are usually uninformed and clueless idiots) rank on it as just "street fighting" and nothing more. Which, if you watch the fight game for longer than a week, you'll see is the furthest thing from the truth you can get. MMA isn't even a worked sport (for the most part, I believe) but it still gets lumped in with wrestling for some reason.

The Reason Boxing and Sportscasters bash it is because, a) Boxing is dead in the states, and b) Espn is owned by Disney, and Disney hates violence and won't let that on it's programing, so the mighty 4 letter network tries to bury what they can't control, (ala Vince McMahon).

MMA i used to detest, just simply because the matches didn't last long enough, and a lot has sloppy fighting in it. But since WWE gives me shitty storylines and bad matches, I've watched more MMA. I love the fact the Brock Lesnar won his first match yesterday.

The only problem I have with MMA is that it is very scattered and hard to folllow with all of the promotions. Part of me wants to see someone start buying them all, like 80's wrestling, and make a super promotion, but then again, I know how that will end up, so I'm cautious with it.

I just got into watching MMA (Pride, UFC). I'm a big fan of Jujitsu, especially full contact jujitsu, and I'll watch whatever bits of that I can get my hands on. I always been a martial arts fan, but I've never really taken the time to watch or follow any of the fights. I since changed my mind and have been on a mission to view and learn as much about MMA as I can.

Indeed Ech, that has been my mission as of late as well.

It's sad though in a way---because most of this interest has sparked for me and many others because of the horrendous quality of mainstream wrestling these days. Even TNA is starting to become boring to watch with some of their stories (Thanks a ton Vince Russo!).

Im tossing up on whether to get UFC 74 or UFC 75, the First has Antoine Silva(however you spell his name) defending his title, it also has Tito Ortiz on the Card as well. The Second has the match between Randy Couture Vs. Gabriel Gonzaga, I don't know enough about the other guys on the card to determine which is the better one to get. And any recommendations on any UFC events to get.

I'm making the trip to Ireland for UFC 72. The card is terrible though. There's not one name on it. Miny you it cant be much worse than UFC 70. Without the big names there wont be all the hype that usually leads to an average match.

Oi, someone needs to sticky this so it doesn't get lost.

Anyone else catch UFC Unleashed last night? They played the UFC 68 match between Randy Couture & Tim Sylvia in full---helluva match up. Couture just dominated Sylvia throughout the entire match, Tim only got maybe two or three clean shots in and maybe one takedown at max. But man, great great match. The crowd exploded when Randy won. I can't wait for his expected match with Gonzaga, should be awesome. Anyone else catch this fight? What's your opinion on it?

UFC 72 Results:

-Dustin Hazelett def. Steve Lynch via Submission (anaconda choke) at 2:50 of Round 1.
-Eddie Sanchez def. Colin Robinson via TKO (strikes) at 0:32 of Round 2.
-Marcus Davis def. Jason Tan via TKO (strikes) at 1:15 of Round 1.
-Ed Herman def. Scott Smith via Submission (rear naked choke) at 2:25 of Round 2.
-Tyson Griffin def. Clay Guida via Split Decision (29-28 Griffin, 29-28 Guida, 29-28 Griffin) after 3 Rounds.
-Jason MacDonald def. Rory Singer via TKO (strikes) at 3:18 of Round 2.
-Forrest Griffin def. Hector Ramirez via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after 3 Rounds.
-Rich Franklin def. Yushin Okami via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after 3 Rounds.

It was an ok show. Better than the Manchester one two months ago. The crowd wasn't that into it though.

I suggest getting both. They really look like spectacular cards. But I'm not going to get both. I'm watching UFC 74 via stream, so it won't cost money, yet the only reason I want to watch it is because Ortiz is on there. I have to order Couture-Gonzaga though. The Heavyweight Title is on the line and I believe that fight will be much better, and it's highly anticipated. I was always a favorite of Couture's style of fighting, and I think we'll be in for a hell of a main event that night. Probably better than UFC 74's main event. If you had to choose one though, I'd probably suggest UFC 75.

Yet again, the fight of the night went to someone on the friggin' undercard in the UFC. Tyson Griffin and Clay Guida really earned their money this time out. Great showing. My favorite portion of the match involved Guida getting dropped headfirst into the mat upon attempting a rear naked choke. Marcus Davis also looks to be a hot prospect. I even read somewhere on Sherdog that he's looking to take on Gomi. That'd be good to see. Whatever the case is, they need to use Davis in some higher profile matchups soon as he isn't getting any younger. As for Forrest? Solid fight, but even he remarked on how tentative he was this time out. After Jardine did a number on him the last time out, I kind of expected it though. The main event was definitely a pile of crap, though. Ace didn't do anything to impress me as they kept playing tag the first two rounds. Okami fought like he didn't even have a pulse until round three. The fight should've been limited to one round so that I wouldn't have wasted ten minutes and change sitting through a couple of guys who were afraid to actually hit each other. I'd expect that kind of stuff from an opener...but we're talking about he former champ in Franklin here. The next cards will be better, though. I can't wait to see Nog fight in the cage. Should be interesting. I'm also hoping that Crocop gets his ass back in the cage sooner than later as well (hopefully London). After nearly having his head roundhoused Norris style by Napao, he finally realized it's time to get his shit in gear so he went out and bought a cage. Now I'm happy. Crocop is finally going to show up when he fights now.

Watched UFC 73 "Stacked" last night on Bravo 2. my first UFC event I have watched and I must say I loved it. It were a refershing change and I will be watching alot more of it when it comes on my TV

Liddell-Silva Scrapped...Again

It’s one of those fights that seem destined for a lifetime of debate on message boards and in the minds of mixed martial arts fans, but never to come to fruition in the Octagon – the showdown between two of the most dominant light heavyweights ever to put the gloves on: Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva.

There was a glimmer of hope in the last couple of weeks, when terms were reportedly reached for the two future Hall of Famers to meet at UFC 76 in Anaheim, California, but Wednesday afternoon, a Silva representative informed UFC President Dana White that ‘The Axe Murderer’ did not want the fight.

“I really wasn’t holding my breath,” Liddell told UFC.com of the latest implosion of a match against Silva. “I was hoping it happened, but if the guy wanted to fight me, he’d fight me.”

For years, fans and media speculated about what would happen if the former UFC light heavyweight champion squared off against his PRIDE counterpart in a battle for the ages, and White did his best to make the fight happen, first by sending Liddell over to the 2003 PRIDE Grand Prix tournament (Liddell wound up losing a semifinal match to Quinton Jackson, with Jackson eventually facing Silva), and then by bringing the Brazilian and Liddell into the Octagon at UFC 61 in July of 2006 to square off and announce an eventual bout.

Inter-organizational negotiations eventually broke down, but with the purchase of PRIDE earlier this year by Zuffa, all obstacles were apparently removed from making the bout a reality, which was still highly anticipated by the fight world despite recent losses by Liddell and Silva to Jackson and Den Henderson, respectively. But after this latest episode, it may be safe to say that Liddell-Silva dream match is going to have to remain just that – a dream.

“You never say it’s never gonna happen, but until you have something signed, you never say it’s gonna happen in this sport,” said Liddell. “It’s just one of those things. Before he had excuses, now he doesn’t. There’s nothing in his way now.”

^This news snippet fails to mention that Wandy already stated in numerous news updates that he was taking the rest of this year off after suffering consecutive knockout losses to Crocop and then to Henderson. He wants to fight Chuck. He wouldn't have flown into the states and stared Chuck down in the Octagon if he wasn't completely ready to maul Chuck. Hell, he's accepted fights for Pride on 3 days notice before, and seeing that he nearly maimed the guy who just beat Chuck's ass (sorry for the MMath) I hardly think Wandy is afraid of anyone, let alone a protected UFC posterboy like Liddell. Hell, Silva knocked out Iron Head for pete's sake.

Besides, Wandy's website even confirmed that the fight was still going on. I trust Dana White as much as I would Vince McMahon. This whole incident stems from Dana's stupid ass figuring that Chuck would beat Rampage and then go onto face Hendo this fall in a true UFC vs. Pride showdown. The only crux of that situation was that Rampage beat Chuck's out-of-shape ass in under a minute (it's what happens when the only credible fighter your champion beats in a span of a few years happens to be an aging Randy Couture...who is still a natural mismatch for Chuck, anyway). Dana White f*cking sucks! He goes around talking about how he's been trying to put this fight together for the longest time. Pride let him have an entry for Chuck into the GP that year and he couldn't even make it past the semis. Jerry Millen actually had the stones to call Dana White's bullshit for what it was and still is. Dana was mortified when Rampage beat Chuck, and he knows in his heart of hearts that Silva is even more dangerous than Rampage.

Quoted From Wrestlezone.com

"The following is an excerpt from a new exclusive Tito Ortiz interview at MMANews.com. You can read the full interview at: http://www.mmanews.com/page.php?page=titoortiz2

MMANews.com: Do you feel that fighters are under paid?

Tito Ortiz: Oh I definitely think fighters are under paid. The highest paid guys are only making a 1 million to 1.5 million dollars a fight and I think that is way underpaid.

MMANews.com: That is with PPV sales and such added in correct?

Tito Ortiz: Yeah. We only get a small piece of the PPV sales though. Nothing compared to what it could be. The fighters that are promoted well and that promote themselves well and that have big names are those that make the biggest market money. The guys making like $2000 a fight, thats ridiculous. I really feel bad for those guys. What it comes down to is that the UFC needs to start cutting the fighters into the pie instead of giving them the crumbs.

MMANews.com: With the UFC bringing in former Pride fighters such as [Mirko] CroCop and [Heath] Herring, etc. Do you feel that they should be getting the big pay days or should the guys that have been loyal to the UFC start getting bigger checks considering the Pride guys arn't overly well known in the U.S. market?

Tito Ortiz: Yeah, I think the guys that should be getting the most money are the guys that everybody know. Wanderlei and CroCop are well known in Japan but are not really well known in America and maybe they should have to show off their abilities before they really start getting the big money.

MMANews.com: With that being said do you think that may be the reason they are putting the Quinton Jackson and Dan Henderson fight at UFC 75 free on Spike TV?

Tito Ortiz: No, I think that is basically because they have to fulfil their contract with Spike. It's all about ratings with that. UFC brings Spike huge ratings so that's pretty much why. Sponsorship dollars also have a lot to do with it.

MMANews.com: So it is more of a buisness move...

Tito Ortiz: Yeah, it's more buisness than doing it for the fans or for the fighters."

Now am I the only person who thinks that Ortiz is slightly up his own ass here? Paid more? Some of the lower paid guys don't even get half of what he expects! Don't get me wrong, I respect the hell outta Ortiz for everything he has done in the UFC, but is it just me, or does Tito Ortiz put way too much money on his name?

Ortiz in the last year or so just seems to be losing his damn mind. I respect him for what he's done, but really, he comes off as quite the cry baby.

Damn, I only wish I got paid 1 million dollars everytime I got into a fight, jeez that sucks. I understands some of the undercard guys that only get 2000 on a pay per view, I understand that. If you make it to pay per view, you should get at least 25,000 per pay per view fight, if not more. To complain that you are only making 1 million dollars is ridiculous.

Anybody else hear about the news that the UFC is going to air UFC 75 for FREE on Spike TV?! This is awesome news, this is going to be one of UFC's biggest shows, with a unification title bout with Pride!

Personally, I can't wait. I believe it's in the very beginning of September though, so still a bit to wait...

Gotta say lately I've been watching alot of that Bodog Fight, pretty good stuff.

I've been a huge MMA fan for years and would just like to suggest the PRIDE Fighting Legacy DVD's to anyone who wants to see true MMA matches. They are pretty cheap, you get five events for $25.00 and they are in order so you can watch the sport evolve as you go. This will be a perfect way for you guys to catch up if you are new to the sport.

well, i just wanna see liddell get knocked the f--k out by wanderlei. as for the next PPV with couture vs. gonzaga, it's pretty much a toss up. haha. who am i kidding. randy's experience will dominate the brazilian. i think gonzaga got really lucky when he fought crocop to get to this point. nonetheless, that was a great fight with a huge shocker. and i gotta give the upper hand to my local HAWAIIAN braddah, kendall grove. i think he will win over patrick cote. we're both from hawaii so i gotta give it up. i think st. pierre versus koscheck will be the fight of the night. i expect a slug-fest mixed with great wrestling and great take down defense with it unanimously going to st. pierre.

as for my other HAWAIIAN braddah, bj penn. he should stay at 155 and jsut dominate the competition. i sure that if he did, shawn sherk would be sh-tting his pants. he's a great fighter with a bad attitude. shoot, i seen him hit a bouncer outside one of the clubs here in waikiki. he knocked that dude out. the bouncer was a samoan dude that was as big as....rosey or umaga. a pretty big dude, about twice his size.
anyway, he should just stay at 155 and simply take over.

what ever happened to tank abbott , mark kerr, and steve urkel??
