My 2 pence on last night. I thought it was an above average ppv which I enjoyed for the most part barring the weak finishes and the ECW title stinker:
Fatal Fourway Tag
Entertaining match, and was everything it could've and should've been. Also highlighted the ridiculousness of the tag division, in that a team that to my recollection has never cleanly won a match can grab the titles. Hopefully this may signal a tag split for Miz and Morrison for single pursuits.
Hardy vs Shelton
Really good match, which highlighted what an excellent worker Shelton is. Was also great to hear the crowd's split reaction on this one. Hardy is now freed up to compete for Mark Henry's ECW belt, but who knows what this U.S. title reign will bring for Shelton.
Henry vs Dreamer
Abysmal. This was always going to suck, and I would've liked to have seen it make an 'extreme rules' match last minute, as at least that would've masked the lack of in ring abilities on show and also made Dreamer's chances more believable. Henry has zero in-ring ability and Dreamer looked slow and weak. Pair the two together and you get a snooze fest. The sooner Mark Henry is extinguished the better.
HBK vs Jericho
Solid match and interesting ending. This is how wrestling should be, feuds built over the duration. Can't wait for the rematch at Summerslam if that is where this one is going, and impressed at how Jericho is being built up here.
Punk vs Batista
This was the match I enjoyed the most (whilst it lasted). I like what is being done with Punk here - slowly he is having to prove himself - it is subtle but will be effective in the long run if he has what it takes to pull it off. Batista's work has improved a lot in my opinion, and he seems sharper in the ring and his offence more believable. Despite what has been said already in this thread, I perceived this match as a very entertaining back and forth encounter, and one which I believed could have gone either way. Punk impressed me, and his selling was spot on for some of Batista's bigger moves. He really made me believe that he was being broken in half and was in big jeopardy (setting himself up to potentially pull off one hell of a victory). Abysmal ending, and I for one am already bored again with Kane and wish he would go back to ECW where we only see him for 10 inconspicous minutes a week.
Michelle vs Natalya
Yawn. Un-needed title, and sad to see one of the few actually talented female wrestlers Natalya do the job. I thought this was a poor finish and one that made her look weak.
Cena vs JBL
Rubbish. This garbage for me has no place in wrestling, with the stupid, unbelievable and poorly executed stunts like the burning car and the forklift. If I wanted to watch that sort of thing, I'd go to the movies. JBL and Cena both suck in my opinion, lets hope we've seen the end of this stupid feud.
HHH vs Edge
I didn't think this match was anything special, but maybe because of the terrible build, I didn't for a second believe that Edge stood a chance of going over. As soon as Edge hit the spear on Vickie, I rolled my eyes and said outloud "pedigree for the win", and sure enough. So boring and predictable. Whilst I tremendously respect his in ring work, HHH for me takes the fun out of wrestling because of his invulnerability. That's what made Hogan the most effective face ever; every big match he ever went into, from the build to the way he looked at the crowd before the match, you believed he was vulnerable and had a mountain to climb. Hell, even Stone Cold, the biggest ever wrestling badass, was vulnerable at his most dominant through the threat of Vince and the Corporation etc. On the other hand, a threatless and invincible face champion like HHH for me goes against the whole point of wrestling, and is utterly boring and infuriating!
