Gelgarin's Tournament Posts

Wait a minute. You call people ******ed for not knowing anything about wrestlers who had their prime 50+ years ago but you don't know anything about wrestlers after 1965? How are you any different from those you criticize? It is pretty damn hard to compare eras but you seem to automatically vote for the older guy regardless of opponent if they're from different eras.

Because

a) When I say I have zero knowledge it's probably an exaggeration. I'd imagine I'm still better informed than the majority of the forum.

b) If I legitimately don't have an understanding of the contest then I either do my homework or I don't vote.

and

c) Irony. I'm docking WZ some of those points I awarded earlier.

It won't, reason being I know fuck all about Carlos Colon. My wrestling knowledge almost completely disappears once you get to about 1965. Fuck knows what happened after that.

I figured I'd get more of a response from randomly accusing people of racism.

I had a 'joke' here about the reason why your knowledge drops off in the mid 60s. It was to turn your ironic use of racism back against you in a clever play on events by claiming it was something to do with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

I say 'clever' in an ironic way because the 'joke' did not work out

Brock Lesnar's legacy on the business... well he appears to have popularised the idea that a wrestler could have corporate sponsorship in their ring fear. That's it.

I've been flaming people in every direction for voting the wrong way, mostly just because it amuses me, but this time I really mean it.

If you vote for Brock Lesnar in this match then you are a fucking idiot.

Brock Lesnar F5'd a shark.

Your argument is invalid.:p

Damn Skippy.

Missed the boat a touch, but trying to see if I get get a bit of a resurgence going for Verne Gagne in round two. He's close enough to Misawa that catching up is not impossible.

Wrestling fans don't like Japan very much right?

I didn't know who the Japanese wrestler was. I only know Verne Gagne because of you mentioning his name a while back. I voted for Gagne.

Doesn't it disgust you to know that I voted in your favor out of ignorance?

Nope; that sort of thing is only a problem when it doesn't go in my favour.

Besides, I'd like to think that voting a certain way "Because Gelgarin says so" counts as doing basic research into the topic.

Would you accept "I voted for Gagne by default and because Misawa gets on my nerves because somehow he has 27 or so "perfect" matches and the same rating system says Steamboat vs. Savage is only 90% perfect even though almost everyone in wrestling says it might be the best match ever and also the same guy that gave him those ratings doesn't have Sting in his Hall of Fame and I don't like him because of that?"

Translation: Yes, but I'd feel bad about it because someone is legitimately using Dave Metlzar's star rating system as a barometer for how to vote.

I wouldn't say a barometer. I voted for Gagne also because I'm not a fan of puro or all the people that keep telling me I know nothing about wrestling because I don't watch it or care for it. And because Gagne was a bigger deal.

Somebody is going to bring up those perfect matches as a reason to vote Misawa and I'm going to feel sorry for them when they do.

Verne Gagne killed a man in 2009. That's enough for me to vote for him.

I voted for Misawa because I enjoy his work more; I probably should have come right out and said that simply because I haven't seen much of any of Gagne's work.

Well that worked better than I hoped. We've slashed Misawa's lead from eight votes all the way down to one. Nearly there.

Bleugh. Well it's been building for a while as more and more people I've never heard of took it upon themselves to vote; Verne Gagne has fallen behind Andre the Giant for the first time.

Depressing, I had my little heart set on a last 16 spot. What's particularly tiresome is that, had it been someone indisputably inferior like Bret Hart in Gagne's place, the Giant wouldn't have stood a change.

Not all that much point campaigning further; if you haven't voted Gagne based on the evidence presented by now then you're probably not going to; so we'll just go with the whole "Vote Verne Gagne because I'm telling you to, and you all secretly crave my respect" thing.

Except almost everyone evenly remotely aware has already voted. The longer it goes the less likely voters are to read the thread, the more likely they are to vote Andre.

It's tempting to pull a Will; I've already got the "word fort" production down after all. I'm not going to obviously; but it's tempting.
