From One Extreme to Another

I look at TNA and somehow I see yet another problem. Months ago we criticized TNA for having far too many comedy characters, ranging from Shark Boy to Curry Man to Super Eric. The show was completely unserious and it felt like watching a bad cartoon play out in the ring. Now I look at TNA and I see no comedy at all. Everything is deadly serious and it's just boring. The wrestling isn't helping as everything storyline wise is as awful as ever. I think to myself, some comedy spots and segments here and there would really lighten the mood and make things seem better. Drama all the time doesn't work as the show will collapse under its own weight. What I think TNA needs is to add a bit of comedy into things. I don't mean put Shark Boy in the title picture, but throw in something less serious. Have the Frontline crack a joke now and then to get the crowd's attention. Just don't bore us to death with all drama.

Are you just talking about last night's episode? Because, even without the Prince Justice Brotherhood, there is still plenty of comedy on Impact with the likes of Beer Money, ODB, The Beautiful People, and LAX on the mic (although LAX on the mic isn't intended to be funny). Currently, it just seems that there isn't much comedy because: a) the MEM/Frontline storyline takes justifiable precedence over all other storylines right now, and it is very serious; and b) all of the wrestlers with comedic gimmicks are either involved in the MEM/Frontline angle or angles that have not turned out as great as previous comedic angles (e.g., The Beautiful People being duped by a Sarah Palin imposter), save for Beer Money's interactions with Abyss and Matt Morgan (unfortunately, it seems like this angle is coming to an end...it was golden while it lasted).

I say give it a few months and you will definitely see just as much comedy as you did before the start of the MEM/Frontline storyline.

You've got three focal points of the show (well, what should be focal points) that are fantastic comedic and serious characters. Kurt Angle is arguably the greatest comedy character in the business. And what was the point of the entire Prince AJ angle if AJ couldn't throw in a little light-heartedness here and there? And then, of course, there's Alex Shelley, the man who made Kevin Nash funny.

Shit, I didn't even include James Storm in that list - and he can do pretty decent comedy. Fantastic comedy heel, as a matter of fact. So TNA has the resources to do it if they want to.
