Favourite Opening Sequence

FunKay the Inevitable

People Like Me, We Don't Play
Okay, so there are many things that define a series. It's actors, it's music, it's storylines etc...However, there is always an opening sequence, whether it be a brief 10 second opener like Heroes or Frasier or a lengthily one like The Simpsons

The opening sequence can set the tone for your show and define just what your show is all about. Here in this thread, I want you to post what is your favourite opening sequence of all time.

Now, here's my pick:

Batman: The Animated Series

The reason I went with this is because it does everything an opening sequence needs to do. It showcases what this show is all about, introduces our main character and catches my attention. the animation is superb, showcasing the action of the show. The music is also key here. The Batman Theme is one of the most recognisable themes of all time and it truly gets you in the mood for some noir style mysteries.

Now, What’s Your Pick?

Well, I know it's not as popular for some other people, but I'm going with..

Smallville.

It gives you everything you need to know about what that season is going to have, and some great visual spots as well. Shows the main characters, and a few shots of how those people come into play within that season. Not only that, but they change it up from season-season.

Don't think you're looking for this kind of opening sequence exactly, but this is my favorite:

Every Season Finale of Supernatural (cept Season 4 I believe) opens up to the same "Road So Far" shtick and the lyrics to "Carry On My Wayward Son" are heard. It's been something of a tandem for the show and really sums up everything that has happened in the season itself.

It's like a rush of energy that hits you, and then cools down so you may enjoy the show.

(Sorry for the audio, it's a bit crappy)

Gotta be Stargate SG-1.

It's a nice little intro, shows each character and actor, nice theme music, nice tv series.

Here's the intro.

LOVE Batman:TAS, SG-1,Simpsons and a million others, but the most recent that I fell in love with is Sons of Anarchy - This Life "gotta raise some hell, before they take you down" really gets me set for the mood of the show every time and my girl goes insane when a new episode is starting so that jus puts me in a better mood than I was before even if I was feeling good (sorry, no good at posting links, but it ain't hard to find)

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air comes to mind. The theme is catchy & good to listen to. I've seen people at times quote lines from the song mostly the first lyric beginning with "In West Philidalephia I was born & raised...". Unlike most show opening sequences which would just play clips from it's episodes and show all of the key actors, it plays the build up to the show & a rap by the main man himself, Will Smith of how & why he got out of Philly and came to Bel Air.

Ok, so for television this is? I have to confess - I originally thought this was a question for the favorite opening sequence in movie history, and I started thinking about those. What a neat thread idea for someone who wants to start a thread in this section (hint hint)...

Fresh Prince was a great choice, because it gives a quick, fun backstory for any first-time viewers. Great call.

One all time favorite of mine is also my favorite cartoon ever - Darkwing Duck. That song was a blast, the screen shots of all the villains and the action is a nice touch, and it establishes the look and feel of the show.

I also remember liking the opening to The Incredible Hulk. Not that annoying cartoon, mind you, but the live series starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno that aired on either Saturday or Sunday after A-Team on the same channel WWF Programming was on. Late-80's / Early 90's. It set the stage as very tense and scientific, while also telling the backstory.
