Favourite Christmas song?

One of my favourite things about Christmas is it being okay to listen to Christmas songs! My MP3 is suddenly full of them, and they always put me in a good mood. I figured it was okay to make this thread now the Music channels are playing them 24/7.

My favourite is Wham - Last Christmas. This is ALWAYS on in my house at Christmas, my family are huge on Christmas music which is probably where my love of them have come. This is my karaoke song as well, I've sang it so much I could probably be Wham. It depresses me that, on Youtube, when you write in 'Last Christmas' the first version is by Cascada. SO horrible.

My single favorite Xmas song is Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas. Her voice really is amazing, and it reminds me of her earlier career, before she got too "Hollywood" for her own good.

I must admit though, I'm a fan of almost anything music-related to Christmas. I even own the Chipmunks tape. It's just happy, bubbly, and it's hard to be in a bad mood when it's on.

Greatest Christmas song ever. I assume this is the proper version, my sound is off. Unlike all other Christmas songs, this one has a real spirit, shining through the grime of reality and telling the story of a failed couple coming together at the end of the year.

I'm also a fan of the Mariah Carey song, pretty much the only thing I like from her. It's probably the last great Christmas song written and is uplifting and fun. A
Anyone who loves Christmas songs needs to buy the Phil Spector Christmas Album, it's fantastic. Really is just a classic selection of Christmas songs reinterpreted through his Wagnerian wall of sound technique. I think it features heavily on the Home Alone Soundtrack, to give you an idea.

Lol, NSL picking Mariah Carey? Yeah, what a hardcore metalhead you are, pfft.

Without a doubt my favorite Christmas song is Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC. In my opinion it is THE greatest party song, ever. Seriously, you put this song on at any Christmas party ever, and everyone just throws up their hands and starts dancing, it's physically impossible not to. Every Christmas my friends and I always have a big party and this song is ALWAYS played atleast five times. Nothing says party time at Christmas like this song, nothing.

Would you have rather me named King Diamond - No Presents For Christmas? Still an amazing song, and it's fun to listen to at any time of the year.

It takes a genius like King Diamond to turn Christmas metal, and not be a joke, or ruin the song.

Christmas? Metal? No! It's supposed to be cheesy and happy and Christmassey! 'Tis the entire point of Christmas songs, silly NSL and X. Although Loveless points out a truly amazing song, Fairytale of New York is impossible not to like, great lyrics, will definitely go down as one of the greatest of all time. I love Mariah Carey's song as well, NSL, it's such a lovely song, someone should really sing that to me, I'd melt. Mariah has a great voice, I still like her now though.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is...
You

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I don't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeers click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
Ooh baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me...

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is...
You

Mariah's voice is perfect for this time of year, and I wish she'd go back to the innocent, sweet, Mariah phase. Her newer stuff just isn't the same. We have a satellite radio set-up at work, and for the holidays we leave the channel on and it plays this song about once an hour, that's how great it is. And, no one ever gets sick of it.

I've always been a fan of Jingle Bell Rock. Use to hate it as a kid, not sure why. But over the last few years I have developed quite the liking for it. I like to kick it old school there. Though I do enjoy some of the humorous Christmas songs Cat Country plays here in the Lehigh Valley area (Pennsylvania).

I hated Jingle Bell Rock until I watched Mean Girls. It's such a fun song, I can't listen to it without wanting to sing along and do the dance they do in the film. It really is a Christmas-sey song; moreso than most, which often have things about love or something similar as a separate part.

Yeah I wish she'd go back too. The girl has a magnificent voice built for proper songwriting, her joining the R & B crowd is a criminal waste of talent. Hopefully when she's older she'll abandon it and someone will write her some decent songs.

Jingle Bell Rock? I used to hate it, it's possible I still do but I think there might be a version I like. As with all the classic Christmas songs, there are a hundred versions of each.

Ahhh John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) I'm really into politicising a celebration but it's a great song and I love the build up to the chanting end. It's also eternally preferrable to that abomination that MacCartney came up with.

Fairytale of New York is a brilliant, brilliant song. I like Mariah Carey's one as well but my long term favourites are Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie and Do they know its Christmas by the 1984 Band Aid people.

My favorite Christmas song is Feliz Navidad (translated into Merry Christmas in English) by José Feliciano. The song does get repetitive but I still love it. It's that type of song that I never get bored of hearing and can always sing along to.

Another favorite is Silent Night. It's a beautiful song with great lyrics. It's amazing to hear when it is sang by someone with the right voice.

I love Christmas music. At night I put my TV on music choice network for Christmas Music. But I'd have to say my favorite one is White Christmas. I mean I never had one but I just think its a pretty cool song and something I'd love to have one year.

Another one I like is one you'd know really if you liked Taylor Swift. She wrote one of her own and had it on a holiday CD that she had come out(sadly I didn't know about it and didn't get to get it). It's called Christmas Must Be Something More. It teaches that Christmas is more then just gifts and songs and all that. Here is the first part of the song

What if ribbons and bows didn't mean a thing
Would the song still survive without five golden rings
Would you still wanna kiss without misletoe
What would happen if God never let it snow
What would happen if Christmas carols told a lie
Tell me what would you find

You'd see that today holds something special
Something holy, not superficial
So here's to the birthday boy who saved our lives
It's something we all try to ignore
And put a wreath up on your door
So here's something you should know that is for sure
Christmas must be something more

The rest of the song is just so great. But I'd still stick with White Christmas as my favorite one.

Well, leave it to me to list a song that is warped enough to make Baby Jesus cry. One of my favorite Christmas songs at the moment is the incomparable Merry Fuckin' Christmas by one Denis Leary. I don't know about y'all, but this song actually speaks the truth about Christmas time. Drunken uncles, Asian porn, and the freezing cold. Ahhhh, memories.

Now, on the serious tip, my absolute favorite Jesusmas song is O Holy Night, specifically the version by the Corrs. This song makes you realize what the time of the year is "really" all about. A baby being born, a prophecy being fulfilled, and the like. Also, it's one of the few songs to consist of all three of the Sisters Corr on vocals, the only instrument being Jimmy on the piano. For those who haven't heard this version, I bring you:

So, there you go. Those are my choices. Anybody agree?

Being the cynic that I am, my favourite christmas song is the Darkness' Christmas Time (Don't let the bells end) for two principle reasons. Firstly, it's funny (Feigning joy and suprise, at the gifts we despise, in a nice way, with you). Secondly anyone who manages to shout "BELL END" at the top of his voice during a chart topping song without ever being censored is worthy of praise.

As for traditional songs, Silent Night is pretty good, but I only know the words in Welsh, so I don't get to sing it much any more.

Generally I don't tend to like too many christmas songs. I think thats due to working in a shop which plays them constantly over the christmas peroid. There are some though that trensend this of course- like Stop the Cavalry or even the Pogues which is even more overplayed on jukeboxes.

My favourite Christmas song though only one in the loosest of terms- is Arthur Mc Bride as preformed by Paul Brady. A very close friend played it to me last year and I can still recall sitting in his small attic room listening to it. As well as being sung very well, I think its a particuarly well written song and can survive many future listens :)
