Favorite time period for Edge?

Edge has wrestled for many years, and he has had numerous great achievements and memories through out his great career. From the late 90s to early 2000s, Edge was a tag team wrestler. It wasn't until 2001 that he began to be a legitimate contender for the Intercontinental title. Then, in 2005, he had the heel turn that changed his career forever and from that point on he would win numerous world titles and was dubbed The Rated R Superstar. Being an edgehead, i know my fair share of history about edge and im sure everybody else here does as well. But which edge is your favorite edge? Mine, 2001-2004 Edge. I grew up on that Edge. I watched him win the tag title with Hogan, Mysterio, Chris Benoit, Christian and hold the IC title 5 times.

So, whats your favorite "version" of Edge?

2007, when he went to SmackDown and won the World Heavyweight Championship. He was FINALLY having a great title reign and then he got injured.

I can't chose he's been amazing from the get go.
During the attitude era he was comic gold, afterwards he was the allround player
um but he won his first singles title in 1999 when he beat Double J in a house show in Toronto just after his TV Debut (albeit only for 1 day).

From an entertainment perspective Edge and Christian and the 5 second pose era was the best

For me it was 2006. Edge had just become The Rated R Superstar, captured the WWE Championship and was on fire. His 3 week reign in January featured some of the highest rate Raw's in recent history. He displayed an intensity and aggression that was missing on WWE Tv at the time, shame WWE didn't just go with it and carry his feud with Cena over to WM22. But even after losing the title Edge had cracking bouts with Mick Foley and Rob Van Dam before regaining the title and spent all summer making John Cena look like a million bucks. Rounding out the year with the formation on Rated RKO and winning the World Tag Team Championships 2006 is the year of Edge's career I enjoy the most.

2005-2006. No question.

He was my favorite superstar to watch. His character took such a great change.

2005 - He became obsessed with winning the WWE Championship, became Mr. Money in the Bank, got with Lita which boosted him up even more, and had a great feud with Matt Hardy.

2006 - Became the WWE Champion, had a Live Sex Celebration the next night, faced Mick Foley in one of the greatest hardcore matches I've ever seen, and earned the moniker The Rated R Superstar.

Edge was simply one of the greatest heels in the WWE. He made being a badass cool again.

Can I say all of hid career? Edge is my fav. If I had to choose one time period I would say 2005 onward. He finally got the WWE championship. Put on some of his best singles matches. Beat Cena multiple time. Teaming with Orton restarted Ortons career. The match with Mick Foley at WM was awesome. Changing the WWE title to the Rated R spinner was awesome. Moving to Smackdown was cool. Finally had a reason to enjoy Smackdown. Was there really a low point after 2005? A moment where we weren't sure what his next career move was?

The best time of Edge's career I would have to say was 2007-2010. The moment he cashed in his second Money In the Bank briefcase on Undertaker, he moved over to Smackdown as the World Heavyweight Champion starting his best run of his career. He feuded with some of the best wrestlers WWE had to offer at the time such as Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Chris Jericho and even restarted his epic feud with Cena again for a while. There were some akward moments such as La Familia, one of the weirdest and least needed stables ever, but this time was mostly great and my favorite part of Edge's career.

After Summerslam 2010 or so, things began to slow down and of course we all know Wrestlemania 27 was his final match. Before 2007 we also saw some great moments such as Edge & Christian, his first Money In the Bank win, the Cena feud, Rated RKO, or the whole Matt Hardy & Lita situation. I enjoyed Edge's second half of his career more than his first, although the years of 2007 through 2010 in particular. Even the brief face run during Wrestlemania 26 when the SPEAR chants were constant. He was at his best during those years, feuding with top guys and winning a large number of WWE Championships.

I will go with 2005-2006 Edge. He is now a heel and since it was before the WWE's shift to PG, he was on top of his game as he came up in the attitude era and knew how to get heat with those tactics.

I liked his time with Lita. It had the advantage of being real; we knew there actually was an Edge-Lita-Matt Hardy triangle and had to wonder whether the program would explode under the weight of true life emotions. It's fine to be a professional and stick with the script, but when the elements of the program mirror what's really going on, you're just waiting for them to deviate from what Creative comes up with and turn the proceedings into World War III.

Edge played the whole thing straight, yet we had to wonder what was going on beneath the surface. Did he hate the whole thing? Was he worried about what Matt might do? Was his real-life affair with Lita actually over before their on-screen romance even started?

Plus, this program had the unique pairing of a heel (Edge) with a face (Lita). I don't believe we had seen that male-female combination since Macho Man & Elizabeth. Yes, Lita eventually joined Edge as a heel, which seemed necessary because we read she didn't like being booed as a face, having been complicit in what happened in real life.

In addition to all that, it was extremely rare to see a main eventer (Edge) feuding with a mid-carder (Matt), in a situation in which the lower rated performer seemingly had to win at least one match in the series from the higher rated guy.....which did happen. Edge had to deal with that, too.

Adam Copeland played the whole thing like a champ. He made the series believable and exciting, playing his bad guy role to the hilt. Usually, a performer is presented as a heel or a face, but when we have to guess how much is real and how much isn't, it adds such intrigue that only a true professional can bring it off without the whole thing appearing ludicrous.

Edge handled it like a pro and I've never enjoyed him as much as I did during this fiasco.

I would for sure have to say the feud with Matt hardy was epic. I know we were in the ruthless aggression era but that feud could have been part of the attitude era. My least favorite would have been the la familia angle ( him in an affair with Vickie was bad taste and chavo was awful). I still to this day do not understand why such a big deal was made with the whole John Cena and AJ Lee fiasco when there were precedents already set such as Vickie and edge and Vickie and dolph. Also teddy/aksana and then the teddy long heart attack angle with a diva that I can't even remember her name.

So, who's going to get mad at me for saying "2012-current?"

Seriously, I was never a fan of Edge, and I don't really see any loss, since he's gone. Furthermore, I still think that it was a very poor decision, by all involved, to have Edge retire without putting anyone over, on the way out. And, after that, the only reason that Christian became champion is because WWE wanted to kiss Edge's ass, one last time.

Frankly, I'm fairly glad that he's gone.

By all means I am an Edge-head, but I agree with your point that it was silly to retire Edge without putting anyone over. Del Rio should have won that WrestleMania match and "end Edge's career". Christian could have won the title at Extreme Rules, ruining Del Rio's destiny and everything would have went on the same. The only difference would be that Del Rio would have gotten a massive rub by beating Edge and his momentum wouldn't have been stopped dead cold.

I couldn't give an exact time period, But I would say anytime he was a heel he was at his best because he has the sort of face I'd like to punch just something about his cocky arrogance riled me up.

In reality that showed me he was a natural heel and I felt he soon went stale to me once he was in the face position.

While he did some good to great work later on with Batista, Taker and Jeff Hardy, my favourite Edge period is 2005-2007.

His tweaking of the insane heel that he was at the start of 2005 when he was feuding with Shawn Michaels, into the Rated R Superstar dripping with arrogance and swaggering around with Lita on his arm was the time he became a real top guy IMO. The subsequent feud with Matt Hardy was good but the best was yet to come.

2006 Was his year, from cashing in on Cena at New Years Revolution, to the live sex celebration, to spearing Foley through the flaming table at WrestleMania, to his tag match with Foley against Funk & Dreamer at One Night Stand, to costing Cena the strap later the same night, to the defining feud of his career that summer with Cena that included memorable matches and some great angles, this was Edge at his peak.

You do realize, Edge had absolutely no idea that WrestleMania 27 was going to be his last match? He only found out later that week that his neck was hanging on by a thread, and another match could have paralyzed him.

My personal favorite time period for Edge is from his debut to around 2001. I loved the Brood, E&C tag team, all of it. Edge and Christian were awesome every time they were on TV back then. The E&C vs Hardys feud was great. Love the comedy bits that E&C used to do. The flash photography / 5 second pose stuff. I still crack up about them playing the kazoos. :)

Sodas rule!

I know that's the rumor, but I don't believe it. They wouldn't have stopped Del Rio's momentum like that. The match as a whole felt very anticlimactic, as if nothing happened. Maybe Edge didn't know, but SOMEONE did, and that affected the booking of the match.

I didn't get mad, because it's a damn internet forum and nerdrage is SO unattractive. I do both disgaree and agree with you.

I see no reason why 2012-2015 couldn't be Edge's best years, apart from the massive hinderance that he had to retire.

Not knocking on Christian or anything, but in him we have a poor man's imitation of what could have been. He just never got as over as Edge did.

Edge was a HUGE STAR, one that Smackdown could have used. I think he had the potential to be the best heel there for many years.

I was a big Edge fan in the 03-05 time range (Not to say I didn't enjoy him in his Main Event time period)

When he beat Randy Orton in 04 at Vengeance I marked out like no other lol. That was such a long and great IC title match.

I have to go with his E&C 5 second pose period. Edge was best suited to a tag team role and as a midcarder. IMHO. Nothing about him as a main eventer did it for me but I did enjoy Edge and Christian quite a bit. Which isn't really an insult either...they were part of a great tag division with the Dudleys, Hardys, APA.

I have to agree with Dagger Dias and say 2007 to 2010. I loved hos feud with Taker and when he starting going crazy just before their HIAC match was just great stuff. I remember him sitting outside the ring with that glazed over stare pulling at his hair when Taker was playing the mind games. he did great work during that time, and that is the time I favored most. The 5 second pose time is a very very close second. He and Christian were comedic gold.

I’m going to have to go with 2005 to 2008. All of his great stuff was in that time period I think. His feud with Matt Hardy was in 05 and winning the first Money in the Bank match was in 05. In 06 he had great feuds with Cena and Foley and was in Team Rated RKO which led to the DX feud. 07 he was a big part of Smackdown when winning the world title. 08 he had another great feud with Taker. To me those were his best years and his ONLY great years. He had good matches before and after don’t get me wrong but I still think he is overrated by many of us.

I think his best period was when he turned heel and then really started to develop the "rated R superstar" gimmick. I can't remember exactly when it was, 05 - 08 somewhere there and he did the live sex thing with Lita. He would talk up the fact he was a two time wwe champion so it wasn't a fluke and go on like he was better than sliced bread, it was hilarious.

Before that he wasn't really entertaining at all and they finally gave up on his pathetic rock star gimmick when he was booed in front of his home fans. To be honest the way his character was going then, I would have booed him too.

The heel turn and rated R thing saved his career.
