Favorite Mtv Movie Awards of the Decade

Attitude

Getting Noticed By Management
So I was watching the Mtv Movie Awards from 2000 and I was completely shocked. It was a good shocked. I forgot how good the Movie Awards were back then. They still are but they just don't have the star power today that they use too. In the 2000 Movie Awards you saw appearences from George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller, Mel Gibson, Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon, Sarah Jessica Parker (host), Sarah Michelle Geller, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, and George Lucas. There were more names but just from the few I mentioned that was a lot of star power. And They were good.

In 2009 you saw a few huge names but the audience was filled more with the "young and up coming stars." We saw Jim Carrey, Forest Whitaker, Lean Rhimes, Will Farrell, Eminem, and Ben Stiller. Other than that we saw mostly the younger stars of today Zac Efron, Robert Pattison, and Shia LeBouf at the awards and Andy Samberg as the host.

I didn't watch the 2010 Movie Awards so I'm not sure how those went. But to me it seems like the bigger name stars that come out to the Movie Awards are more like special guest appearances rather than to win awards. I was shocked at the 2009 movie awards that Jim Carrey won an award but I was extremely happy. The awards were being overtaken by Twilight, Transformers, and High School Musical it seemed like.

Anyway I'm know it sounds like I'm rambling. But the point of the thread is:

What is your favorite Mtv Movie Awards of the Decade?

This is actually tough for me. I feel that the Mtv Movie Awards usually pulls off a good show. I always feel they are worth watching. With that being said I have to choose the 2008 Mtv Movie Award Shows for a few reasons. Mike Meyers was the host. I thought he did a great job. He opened with a dance number with Chris Brown. Brought back Wayne's World. His skits were great with Bucky the Animal Trainer and the other skit were he was dressed as the woman. Adam Sandler receive the Mtv Generation Award and Tom Cruise Presented him with it. Coldplay and The Pussycat Dolls put on good performances at the awards. Those are some of the highlights from the night. But my last comment was this seemed like the last movie awards were all the big stars were really coming out.

The 2009 and 2003 Mtv Movie Awards were great too. The are tied at second for me.

I know I just made the case that the older movie awards had bigger stars and the 2009 had the younger stars but I felt like they did a great job with the show. There are four moments that made this show great. 1) Eminem's performance was actually good. I'm usually not a fan of his but thought he did a good job performing and enjoyed the songs he sang. f2) Jim Carrey winning an award. 3) The Musical Presentation of Andy Sambergs Short Films featuring Jim Carrey (opening) Lean Rhimes, and Forest Whitaker. 4)Eminem getting t bagged by Bruno. Eminem had his moment in the spotlight at the awards and then what happened there with Bruno. I don't if Eminem's reaction was legit afterwords or if it was worked but man it was classic.

A couple other points about the 2009 movie awards I liked were the Harry Potter sneak peak (yes I'm a fan). The twilight spoof. And the opening. So I guess technically that's seven things I liked.

Anyway what's yours.

This is how I always feel about the MTV Movie Awards. The shows are usually pretty damn entertaining, but can you really take the awards seriously?

In the early 90's, I would've had no problem with A Few Good Men, Seven, or Pulp Fiction winning the awards for best movie, but over the years, it's just become ridiculous. Can you really buy Twilight as the best movie? I also love The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but there's no way The Fellowship and The Two Towers should've won a Best Movie award. I don't have too big of a problem with Return Of The King, because I did think it was an outstanding film. But then you have the other asinine choices. Wedding Crashers, Napoleon Dynamite, Transformers, and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest should not be considered as choices for a Best Movie award. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of the films I just listed(expect for Napoleon Dynamite, because I really hate that movie) because they can be very fun films to watch, but are they so good that they should be considered best film of the year? No. Not at all. MTV does put on a good/great show when it comes to these awards, but they really make some stupid fucking decisions when it comes to choosing the winners for their award categories, and it really brings down the credibility of their awards.

Anyway, if I had to chose a favorite show I guess I would pick 2008, and I'm mainly picking it because it's one of the very few shows that I can vividly remember. Mike Myers was hilarious as the host, and the award winners didn't piss me off too much. Ellen Page did do a nice job in Juno, and Will Smith delivered as always in I Am Legend. The Iron Man and Tropic Thunder parody/spoof skits were very funny. I do think the Best Kiss award is kind of silly, but seeing the award winners accept the award can be worth watching. The kiss on stage can always be one of those wow moments that will make your jaw drop. Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman from Step Up 2 The Streets won in 2008. I would've picked 2005, because It was cool to see Leo win an award for The Aviator, but Jimmy Fallon sucked as the host, Napoleon Dynamite won Best Movie, and Lindsay Lohan won award for Best Female Performance. I can put up with some stuff, but there was just too much bullshit and idiocy on the this particular night.
