Favorite 'forgotten' match?

By forgotten, I mean a wrestling match that you feel was great, yet you see no one reference it, especially when discussing the people involved.

As for me, I'm gonna have to go with Chris Benoit vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE title in late 2003.

The storyline going into this match was that Lesnar tapped out to the Crossface at Survivor Series during the Team Angle vs Team Lesnar match, and the fans gave him Hell for it. Benoit defeated John Cena earlier in the night to qualify for this title match, and Lesnar vowed to make Benoit tap as revenge. Lesnar got the win by making Benoit lose consciousness to the debuting Brock Lock, his submission finisher which for some reason didn't last too long. I was still a new wrestling fan at this time, at this was the first great wrestling match I ever saw. It's a shame these two never had a one on one PPV match; they would have torn the house down.

I also feel compelled to mention Undertaker vs Booker T at Judgement Day 2004.

The storyline was nothing stellar. Booker T made a heel turn after being drafted to Smackdown, and was claiming that he's not afraid of The Undertaker. However, I was a total Taker mark around this time, and I was scared shitless that Mordecai was going to interfere in this match and screw Taker over, seeing as he's the Anti Taker. It was a pretty feel good moment for me when Taker got the win, haha.

AJ vs Daniels vs Joe at Unbreakable in 2005 is the match everyone talks about in TNA, it set the standard for the company, the division and for the wrestlers.

I'd say any match that AJ had with Joe or Daniels on their own is absolutely forgotten in preference of this match. But Joe and AJ had a great match on the PPV before Unbreakable to crown the winner of the tournament.

Even at the beginning of Daniels title run, he had a great match to win the belt in a variation of Ultimate X with AJ, defended it in an event in the UK called International Showdown (Great event, great match.)

It's when the X Division could do little wrong with its great depth of talent. That was a great few months.

The 2006 Armageddon tag team fatal fourway MNM Hatdyz Brian kendrick and Paul london William Regal and dave Taylor its a great match with lots of talent i dont know the back story but when i was watching i knew it was something great and resulted in THE best angle ever in my opinion the fallout of it did Somethings 1.give london and kendrick a title which they desevered based on their performance 2. break up of MNM a good team 3. retirement of joey mercury from WWE a decent wrestler 4.A great feud between Joey and matt if i remember correctly see the match for you self

This is a topic that comes up once in awhile. That’s not a criticism to the thread starter because it’s a topic I never get tired of. I just hope no one gets tired of me repeating myself.

The one that always comes to mind is Shawn Michaels vs. Jeff Jarrett from the second In Your House in July 1995. This was an awesome match. It was a twenty minute masterpiece and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Because this was a brief feud with no rematch it’s often forgotten. Even more so considering the long list of classics that HBK has been involved in. Do yourself a favor and check this out if you’ve never seen it. I think you can find it on Shawn’s first dvd From the Vault from around 2003. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it myself so maybe I’ll check it out again too. I’m confident this holds up over time and you won’t be disappointed.

By the way, I think this might be better suited for old school. It would probably get more attention there too. You might want to ask a mod to move it.
