Eric Bischoff as an On-Screen Character

(So this is mainly going off his WCW and WWE days ie. the past. I dunno how his character is in TNA hence why I didn't put this in General Wrestling.)

Eric Bischoff...The Bisch...Eazy-E...what can you say about the man?
Well the IWC is fond of taking shots at his business decisions but that's overdone and boring. What hasn't been done too much that I've seen is discussion of his personality and competence as a heel.

And so this topic is to see what people here thought of him as a performer and bad guy.

Much has been said about the character of "Mr. McMahon." People say he was a magnificent villain and largely responsible for pushing Austin to his superstardom.
All true of course. What is a hero without a villain?

And yet...I've always liked Eric more. Part of it is that Vince simply wore out his character over the years. It came to a point when he should have gotten a Snidely Whiplash mustache since he was hamming it up to ridiculous levels. The debacle with the "Higher Power" also wears out any affection I have for his character.

The thing about Heel Bischoff for me is that, while he didn't wear a suit and physically epitomize the "Evil Corporate Character", he had a very natural aura of douche-ness. The video above is a good testament to what I'm saying. Everything from his hair to that masterful smirk of his just makes you want to reach through the screen and punch him. The blowing kisses thing that he did was a delicious touch that I still love to this day.

Eric was playing the part of a corporate monster playing the part of a rockstar and I thought he was damn good at it. If there is one thing I wil give him over McMahon as a villain it's that Bischoff was so much more naturally sleazy. Vince did some scummy stuff with Trish but I thought Easy-E literally sweated sleaze during his time as a heel.

So those are my thoughts. I have loved my fellow former denizen of Detroit for years now and very doubtful that will ever change.
But how about you all? What isy your verdict on Bischoff as a character?

I think he's a complete piece of shit and I love every time he ends up getting what is coming to him. Which is really a testament to how good he is at what he does on screen, whether it just comes natural for him or not I have no idea.

I'm a guy that often gravitates towards the heels, but I always fucking hated Bischoff and his job was to get that emotion out of me, so well done to him.

This is where Bischoff has always been a winner to me. I love heels, but I always hated Bischoff's character. When you can be a heel that draws heat from even the guys who like heels, you're doing it right.

I don't know Eric Bischoff as a person. I never witnessed his business decisions firsthand. I know what I've heard and read, but that's not enough for me to say I have a balanced opinion. I just know Eric Bischoff is definitely one of the best heel personalities to come out of pro-wrestling entertainment whatever.

Great heel IMO. Everytime he got what was coming to him I loved it. He is a guy that can really get you to hate him no matter what, and that definitely shows how good he is at what he does. Good character in WCW, WWE, and even TNA. Just oozes heel, and does a really good job at that.

I love Eric Bischoff! This guy is an incredible heel, he can draw heat from the crowd. Bischoff played that perfect asshole that fans want to strangle. I loved how Bischoff would come out, he would talk shit about somebody, that person comes out and Bischoff would try to weasel his way out. I'm a big fan of Eric Bischoff, he is in my favorite top three wrestling personality's of all time.

I'm a Bischoff supporter, think the guy was a large part of revolutionising the entire industry, and I thought he was the best evil authority character we've seen. His character came across as that smart ass kid in school who befriended the tough kids so he could stand behind them and laugh at everyone else. Just the way he walked out with the nWo and told the audience he loved them, even thinking about it now makes me want to see him get a baseball bat to the face! Great heel, really top notch on-air personality

The reason why Bischoff came across like an ass is because he is one. That's why he could play the character so well. If you don't believe me just ask some of the wrestlers who used to work for him.

He is a great talker and he played the character well. I think he is overrated in what he did for wrestling but think his character is very underrated. He played the good guy and the bad guy very well.

Well according to a lot of wrestlers Vince is pretty much The Devil. So I guess it's truth in television for both guys.

Yeah the character is incredibly underrated. He played the evil authority before McMahon and Heyman were doing it. He was perfectly smarmy.

Bischoff certainly had a bad rep with a lot of wrestlers behind the scenes and the whole Bischoff-Hogan-Nash trio is often criticized and rightfully so. However, as an on screen character and villain, he was gold.

So many great Bischoff promos, the night he stripped The Steiners of the Tag Titles, the night he fired Randy Anderson in front of his children, beating up Flair's son & kissing his wife, Bischoff oozed sleazeball villainry, watch those videos, he drew real heat, he was more over than just about everyone in the NWO outside of Hogan & Nash.

Eric Bischoff is and was a fantastic heel. The guy is just so hateable, from the smug expression he has on his face, to the way he talks, to the way he walks...he is so sleazy and plays his role absolutely perfectly, especially back in WCW.

Bischoff has always reminded me of the kind of man who loves to stir up trouble and then go and hide behind his bigger friends when it all kicks off, and I hate people like that. The guy is the perfect heel authority figure on a wrestling show, the crowd always reacts to someone like Eazy-E and he revels in it.

The way he used to take shots at Vince McMahon and WWE on Nitro, the incredibly smarmy promo he gave when first arriving on RAW, the great performance on ECW One Night Stand as leader of the "crusaders", Eric Bischoff was born to be a heel, and he is a damm good one.

I hope we see him back in WWE at some point, as I don't think he has been at his best in TNA. I would love him back as GM on either Raw or Smackdown in the future
