ECW: WWE's Diamond in the Rough

Theo Mays

Part Time Poster
I've always wanted to do one of these and now I have some time, so I'm going to go ahead and finally start one up. Here is the backstory. I hope to have the first show up sometime tomorrow, maybe tonight if I'm lucky.

After Night of Champions in Philadelphia, ECW’s heart and soul, Tommy Dreamer was defeated by Captain Charisma, Christian for the ECW Championship. Dreamer, a few months earlier defeated Christian and Jack Swagger in a triple threat match at Extreme Rules to capture the ECW Championship. Now ECW may not be given the luxury of Raw and Smackdown, but they are gifted with a very talented roster. Many want to see the rebirth of the old ECW, but is that really necessary. All ECW needs is credit to be restored upon the ECW Championship and a development of the undercard talent already on the roster. With that said and Summerslam right around corner, ECW looks to become not just the C show, but a show that is on the rise and can be just as entertaining as Raw and Smackdown. Here is what the ECW roster looks like.

GM: Tiffany
Announce Team: Josh Matthews and Matt Striker
ECW Champion: Christian

Abraham Washington
Brie Bella
DJ Gabriel
Ezekiel Jackson
Goldust
Gregory Helms
Katie Lea Burchill
Nikki Bella
Paul Burchill
Sheamus
Shelton Benjamin
Tommy Dreamer
Tyler Reks
Vladimir Kozlov
William Regal
Yoshi Tatsu
Zack Ryder

Here it is, rip it apart!

“Don’t Question My Heart” plays with a video package as ECW airs live from the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Josh Matthews-Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to ECW, live on SyFy. And what a show we have in store for you tonight from the 1st Mariner Arena here in Baltimore, MD. As always I am Josh Matthews and joining me here by ringside is Matt Striker.

Matt Striker-Thank you Josh and ECW has a new face, as Christian embarks on his 2nd ECW title reign.

Josh Matthews-You got that right Matt. Captain Charisma defeated Tommy Dreamer this past Sunday at Night of Champions.

“Just Close Your Eyes (remix)” hits and the new ECW Champ, Christian heads to the ring to a huge ovation from the Baltimore fans.

Matt Striker-And speak of the champ. What an ovation for Captain Charisma from the great ECW fans here in Baltimore. What does Christian have in store for us tonight.

Christian-You know what. This is right here is incredible. Who would have thought that after you experience something once, that it would be twice as sweet the second time around. I’m here on ECW for one reason and that reason is the ECW championship. Now I went a short time without it, but it was only a matter of time until Captain Charisma was once again champ. Now there are two people that need to be thanked for this moment. The first is all of my peeps out there in the WWE universe. You guys make this moment more special than it already is. And second is the former champion and a good friend of mine, Tommy Dreamer. Tommy gave it his all and we put on one hell of a match in the city of brotherly love.

“Man in the Box” hits as Tommy Dreamer heads to the ring to a stellar reaction.

Tommy Dreamer-Christian, man there is no need to thank me. Unless you are thanking me for taking the ECW championship back. Cause you see Christian, I talked to Tiffany and I have invoked my rematch clause and we will have ourselves an ECW championship match tonight in Baltimore!

Christian-Slow down there Tommy. We get it, you want the ECW title back. But you really think you have it in you, after our brutal battle to take back from me tonight?

Tommy Dreamer-I may not be the same performer I was, but my body has been through hell and back, and I know I can hold up in a match tonight and I know this rusted up, banged up body will guide me to another ECW title run.

Christian-Well if that is how you want it Tommy, then that is how it will be.

*Christian sticks his hand out for a handshake. Dreamer agrees and Christian’s music hits as the crowd cheers the big announcement.*

Josh Matthews-What a huge announcement Matt! A big main event for tonight.
Matt Striker-That it is Josh. Christian/Dreamer rematch for the ECW title, could the stakes get any higher?

*COMMERCIAL BREAK*

Josh Matthews-Welcome back to ECW folks. As you can see Paul Burchill is in the ring.
Matt Striker-Don’t forget Josh, the Ripper is accompanied by his lovely sister, Katie Lea.

“Tyler Reks Surfer Theme” hits and Reks comes out to a decent ovation.

Tony Chimel-And his opponent Laguna Beach, California…Tyler Reks.

Matt Striker-And here comes our residence surfer dude Tyler Reks. One of the hot young stars from Tiffany’s new talent initiative. Lets see how he fares against one of Chelsea’s finest, Paul Burchill.

*Match Recap*-A good opening match with some back and forth action. Burchill seizes control early on and keeps Reks grounded. Burchill works on Reks left leg, which Reks injured on a failed dropkick attempt earlier in the match. Burchill gets Reks in a single leg Boston Crab. During this William Regal appears on the stage and starts to watch the match. Reks crawls his way to the ropes and Burchill breaks the hold after a 4 count. Burchill starts kicking away at Reks leg as he crawls under the rope. Burchill turns towards the stage as Regal applauds him. Burchill looks confused. Burchill sets his focus back on Reks, who is trying to get up on the apron. Burchill runs towards him, but Reks ducks and drives his shoulder into Burchill’s breadbasket and then goes for the sunset flip and the cover.

Tony Chimel-The winner of the match, by pinfall…TYLER REKS!

Josh Matthews-Reks pulls a fast one on Burchill there and picks up the pinfall victory.
Matt Striker-What a win for Reks. But you can see Burchill isn’t thrilled about this and either is Mr. Regal.

Regal walks backstage shaking his head, while Burchill throws a tantrum in the ring.

Josh Matthews-What do you think William Regal’s intentions were?
Matt Striker-My guess is that he was just watching and scouting for a future match against either Reks or Burchill.
Josh Matthews-Only time will tell what William Regal had on his mind Matt. Maybe we can get some answers from Regal.

*We cut to Tiffany’s office, where Tiffany is making small talk with an assistant.*
Shelton Benjamin-Tiffany, could I have a word with you?
Tiffany-Yea what can I do for you Shelton?
Shelton Benjamin-I was wondering why I’m not on the card this week. I mean, I am the Gold Standard and I’m best athlete ECW has ever been graced with.
Tiffany-Well Shelton, I don’t have room for you this week, as the show is booked. But I can promise you a spot on the card next week. How does that sound?
Shelton Benjamin-I guess that will have to do. But for future reference, you might want to book the Gold Standard on every show.

Josh Matthews-Shelton Benjamin, Matt demanding to be on the show.
Matt Striker-As he should young Joshua. Shelton is the premier athlete in the WWE and we are thrilled to have him here in ECW. And I for one am excited for his match next week on ECW.

“Pain” hits as Vladimir Kozlov appears on the stage.

Tony Chimel-Making his way to the ring, from Moscow…Vladimir Kozlov

Matt Striker-And here comes trouble Josh. The Soviet Cyborg, Vladimir Kozlov. This young man in the ring could be in for a huge nightmare.

*Match Recap*-Kozlov faces off against a local guy, Brent Tomlinson. Tomlinson runs at Kozlov and hits him with a forearm. Kozlov is unharmed. Tomlinson goes for it again, but Kozlov takes him down with a shoulder block. Kozlov lifts Tomlinson up and then body slams him back down. Kozlov then hits him with a big elbow drop. He goes for the cover, but Tomlinson kicks out. Kozlov lifts Tomlinson up and then hits him with the Iron Curtain (Leg lift Chokeslam). Kozlov goes for the cover.

Tony Chimel-The winner of the match by pinfall…VLADIMIR KOZLOV!

Matt Striker-What a dominating performance from Kozlov.
Josh Matthews-Kozlov came out here and made a point Matt. And he is putting the ECW roster on alert.
Matt Striker-As obvious as that is Josh you are absolutely correct.
Josh Matthews-Well coming up next Matt is our main event. Tommy Dreamer and Christian battle it out for the ECW championship.
Matt Striker-And what a match it will be Josh. If you seen there match at Night of Champions this past Sunday, then you know what you are in store for here.

*COMMERCIAL BREAK*

Tony Chimel-This match is scheduled for one fall and it is for the ECW Championship!

“Man in the Box” hits as Dreamer heads out to the ring.

Matt Striker-And here comes the OG of Extreme, the Innovator of Violence, the Heart and Soul of ECW. Tommy Dreamer has on thing and his mind and one thing only Josh and that is to recapture his ECW championship.

“Just Close Your Eyes (remix)” hits as Christian appears on the stage ready to fight.

Josh Matthews-Well Matt there is only one thing in Dreamer’s way of recapturing the ECW title and that is Christian. This is Christian’s first title defense Matt and boy is it a big one.

Tony Chimel-Introducing first the challenger, from Yonkers, New York…TOMMY DREAMER!

Josh Matthews-What an ovation for Tommy Dreamer. The ECW fans in Baltimore are behind Tommy one hundred percent Matt.

Tony Chimel-And the champion, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is the ECW Champion…CHRISTIAN!

Matt Striker-I don’t know Josh. Christian’s reaction is right on par, maybe better than the reaction Tommy Dreamer just received. The fans here seem to be split among these two ECW stars.

*Match Recap*-The match starts off with a handshake from the two individuals. Christian gains control early on after he takes Dreamer down in a headlock. Dreamer is able to get back to his feet and he breaks the headlock and throws Christian across the ropes and takes him down with a shoulder thrust. Dreamer runs across the ropes and Christian rolls over, Dreamer leaps over him. Christian gets back to his feet, as Dreamer bounces off the ropes and Christian leap frogs him. Dreamer bounces off the ropes again and Christian takes him down with a hip toss into an armbar. Dreamer screams as Christian wrenches back on the arm. Dreamer tries to get back on his feet, but Christian knocks him down with a forearm shot to the back. Christian goes for the cover.

Christian gets back up and runs at Dreamer who back body drops him out of the ring. The crowd is split with “Let’s go Dreamer” and “Let’s go Christian” chants. Dreamer goes out and gets on the apron. Christian is back on his feet and Dreamer runs off the apron and hits Christian with a flip.

Matt Striker-What a move by Dreamer. Dreamer is back in the swing of things here Josh.
Josh Matthews-What a back and forth match, will Christian be able to retain or will Tommy Dreamer once again become the ECW Champ?

*COMMERCIAL BREAK*

Josh Matthews-Welcome back to ECW folks. Matt can you give us a rundown of what happened during the break.
Matt Striker-I shall Josh. During the break, Christian regain control of the match as he countered Dreamer on the outside and caused Dreamer to crash into the steel post.

As we return to action Christian has Dreamer in a sleeper hold. The ref signals one as Dreamer’s arm falls to his side. The ref lifts his arm again. 2!, as Dreamer’s arm falls to his side again. The ref goes for Dreamer’s arm for a third time. He lifts his arm and drops it, but Dreamer keeps it from falling. Dreamer elbows Christian in the gut, followed by another. Christian breaks the hold and Dreamer runs across the ropes nails Christian with a running bulldog. Dreamer goes for the cover.

Josh Matthews-What a match Matt. These two delivered again.
Matt Striker-These two fail to disappoint Josh. After their epic bout at Night of Champions, they put another one together here in front of the ECW faithful in Baltimore.

Christian celebrates with the title afterwards as Dreamer holds his head in pain. Dreamer gets up and applauds Christian. The two embrace in a hug, as Dreamer raises Christian’s hand in victory.

Matt Striker-That right there is a classy move by Tommy Dreamer. What a class act and a great show of respect to the man who one upped him tonight in Christian.
Josh Matthews-Christian walks away still champ, but it wasn’t after a incredible showing from Tommy Dreamer. Folks for Matt Striker, I’m Josh Matthews, and thank you for joining us this evening for ECW. Good night!

Not really sure if your ECW is on the rise as its pretty much the same show as the real ECW gave us this week... even the promos sound the same lol

on the other hand the matches are written well. I shall continue coming back to see where you take this.

Well right now it is going to look the same. It was the first show back, so I pretty much based it off that. Needed to give Dreamer his rematch and I didn't want to do that at Summerslam, so I did it here. Thanks for the comments.

ECW’s WWE Superstars match.

Josh Matthews-Welcome to WWE Superstars folks. I’m Josh Matthews and I’m joined by Matt Striker and this is the ECW portion of WWE Superstars.
Matt Striker-That it is Josh and do we have a good one for you or what. We have one of ECW’s new stars, “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus and he’ll be taking on the returning DJ Gabriel.

“DJ Gabriel’s Dance Theme” hits as DJ Gabriel makes his way on stage dancing.

Tony Chimel-Introducing first, from Wokingham, Berkshire, England…DJ Gabriel.

Matt Striker-And here he is Josh, a guy who I am fond of. Dancing DJ Gabriel. We haven’t seen DJ in awhile, but I can guarantee he won’t disappoint tonight.

“Sheamus’ Celtic Theme” hits as the new superstar makes his way to the ring.

Tony Chimel-And his opponent, from Dublin, Ireland…Sheamus.

Matt Striker-Here comes a guy Josh, who I am the most impressed with from the new talent initiative thus far. He is big, he is mean, and he has a bright future here in the WWE.

*Match Recap*-DJ Gabriel starts off with an offensive attack early, and looks impressive. Gabriel has Sheamus tamed and gets him in an armbar. Sheamus though doesn’t stay put long and he nails Gabriel with an elbow shot to the head. Sheamus now takes over as he takes down Gabriel with a running elbow strike. Sheamus lifts Gabriel and whips him into the corner. Sheamus runs at him, but Gabriel counters with a boot to the head of Sheamus. Gabriel climbs up to the ropes and goes for diving European Uppercut, but Sheamus ducks out of the way. Gabriel gets back to his feet, but Sheamus greets him with a giant big boot. Sheamus signals that it is over and he lifts a dazed Gabriel up and hits him with his finisher, a Side Slam Backbreaker. Sheamus goes for the cover.

Tony Chimel-And the winner, by pinfall…SHEAMUS!

Josh Matthews-Tonight Sheamus spoiled the return of DJ Gabriel Matt. And what an impressive performance by Sheamus.
Matt Striker-You have that right Josh. Sheamus is going to make a big name for himself in this business and it shouldn’t be long until we see Sheamus in the ECW title hunt.
Josh Matthews-You got that right Matt. Thank you for joining us here for the ECW part of Superstars. For Matt Striker, I’m Josh Matthews, good night!
