Double Turn

A Double Turn is the rare occurrence when both the heel and the face switch roles during an angle or a match. It is really rare. When was the last time you can remember seeing it? My main question is do you think any wrestling promotion would try it again? Will we see one again? The last great double turn was the Bret Hart/Steve Austin match at WrestleMania 13. Why do you guys think it is so rare?

Your thoughts.

The first one that popped in to my mind, was when Jarrett laid down for Hogan at Bash At The Beach. Hogan was rebounding from the nWo, and Jarrett was the champion, and top heel of the company.

The entire show was based around the big match, and when it happened, we all nearly crapped ourselves. Hogan didn't have to do anything on-screen to turn heel, and all Jarrett had to do to turn face was lay down.

Vince Russo did all the work. Apparently Hogan was politicking to win the match, and Russo was sick of it. Hogan won the match, and was released from WCW. Jarrett lost the match, but was still the champion until a match later in the night against Booker T, where Booker won the title.

I don't think it happens often, because there's rarely a set up for it. There's not really a need for two guys to switch at the same time, and it can get sloppy if it isn't done right. I think the current story with Big Show and Edge was meant to have this effect, and it didn't work.

How can anyone forget the double turn when the Rock faced Hogan? Throughout the whole angle Hogan was doing everything to come off like the evil heel, even slamming the Mac truck into the ambulance with the Rock inside. Then at Wrestlemania they had that long stare-down and looked back and forth slowly at the crowd as they went nuts. Then with each move the Rock did, the crowd booed like he was the heel the entire time. And anytime Hogan landed a punch the roof blew off the arena. If I'm not mistaken Jim Ross or Lawler was making mention of how the crowd seemingly turned on the Rock so fast and loved Hogan.
I don't think WWE could have planned that any better.

That's not a double turn. That's just a situation of the entire world being fans of Hogan because of what he did for the business and how every single person when they were younger LOVED Hogan growing up. You can't seriously tell me that some 8 yr. old said "eff Hogan, he's awful." Everybody was a Hulk Hogan fan when they were younger. Everybody was a Hulkamaniac at one point in their life. So during Rock/Hogan, everybody booing the Rock and cheering Hogan was not because anybody really hated the Rock, it was the fact that almost EVERYBODY was so behind Hogan and loved that they were seeing him perform one more time. It was obviously near the end of his career and the people were going to mark for Hogan rergardless of who he faced. They knew they were seeing something special and if that happened to be Hogan's last match for some reason, the people wanted Hogan to go out with everybody cheering for him regardless of his face/heel status.

But if you see their re match who is the heel? The Rock, they were forced to put him in the heel role and Hogan was now the mega face, a role that was the other way round in their Mania match.

How about Face Bret Hart v Heel Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 13? By the end of the match Austin was getting cheered and Hart left to a heck of a lot of boos.

But in the context of what was originally written, their match at WM, NOT THEIR REMATCH, was not a double turn. Nuff said.
