Don't Ask, Don't Tell

Yea, probably more the second part. Remember, the US is still an extremely young country, and so therefore our tolerance to many things may not be as well developed.

Also, the way your military goes about things, and the way ours does may be very different, as far as living conditions and things of that nature, which would cause for inappropriate situations concerning homosexuals

Norcal is absolutely right, which is unsurprising as he is actually in the relevant position. A military man, not a gay one, you understand I'm saying. Anyway, my brother was in the Navy when they changed the law and let gays in in the late 90s and they had the same concerns on his ship. Fundamentally, in a war situation, you have to make the majority comfortable, as dissension in the ranks will cost lives, and ultimately wars.

If gays had their own showers etc, then it would be less of a problem, but the fundamental thing is that it only takes one misconstrued incedent to leave moral low and that could be a life and death difference maker.

Equal rights should exist in the wider world, but there are certain exceptions that need to be made, and this is one of them.
