Does Cena still have the Dr. of Thuganomics in him?

It's been a while since he's been the trash-talking, opponent-dissing, free-style rapping side of Cena was being used. There was definitely a significant number of fans who liked that Cena. My question is, do you believe he still has the capability to go back to his old self? How about if he had some brushing up on his rapping skills? If so, can it be used and still keep him a face? What feuds would you put him in?

It's very rare to have your doctorate degree taken away once you are presented it.

In all seriousness, of course he could still do it. Cena is one of the very best in the WWE today, and he can play any role that WWE wants him to. I don't doubt that if they wanted to throw a huge multicolored hat on him and a psychedelic jacket, he would be able to nail Macho Man.

In fact, we have seen some aspects of his rapper character sneak into his current character. Just last week he and King went back and forth making jokes about Vickie's weight.

That said, why would Cena want to go back to his rapper character? Sure, the internet loved it, but he's more over now as a straight laced guy, and he fits in better with WWE programming in this form of Cena. Going back to the rapper character would certainly appease many in the IWC, but it would not be good in the long-term for John Cena.

I like this thread. I am not a big Cena fan.....can you tell. Anyway, I am sure he can still do it. As Cena has shown he can pretty much do anything. Would a turn back to his rapper character be good? Im not sure, probably not. But going back to the Dr. COULD be.

When Cena was Dr. of Thuganomics, he was annoying. But that was a good thing. It brought him ALLOT of heat. Well his raps were annoying anyway. But his attitude was perfect. I would like to see that side of Cena again. It would really make me want to sit and watch him again. Instead of going to the bathroom, or getting something to eat.

But in the long run would it work? Yes, I am pretty sure it can. Just negate the rapper part. Make his just a thug. I think that would be best.

Of course Cena could go back to that mid-card gimmick if he felt that way. HHH could go back to being a Greenwich Blue Blood snob too. Taker could go back to being Mean Mark. It is called character development. These guys are professional enough to be able to act out whatever gimmick they are saddled withy. Cena was given that gimmick in the first place because Shane McMahon was very impressed with the freestyle raps Cena would do backstage ribbing the other talent. It is something is naturally does brilliantly. But Cnea going back to that gimmick would be a massive career backwards move. Cena, if anything, needs to embrace a more darker side, a more believable side. His current gimmick is stale and the Nexus storyline did nothing to elevate Cena, all it did was give Orton and The Miz the chance to run with the ball while he rested up. John Cena is a brilliant talent, even though his ring skills are very limited. Cena is the guy the company will continue to be built around the next three-five years, so they are going to keeop a gimmick on him that is still marketable, and gets people believing in his character

To be honest he could definitly still play the role. I really identified with Cena when he would walk out and spit out rhymes to make fun of opponents. The role had some what of a heal taste to it, and he did well. I totally disagree on what he has become today. He aims to please the women and the children which is ok on a merchandise level. The fact is that he is a tweener, you will never hear the whole crowd cheer for him anymore, which is ok. Cena is the face of the Wwe and represents the company well. I would love to see him bring back the basic thuganomics back but it's just not in the cards.

So it seems the IWC agrees that rapper may not be the choice, but sort of a thuggish kind of person. Seems pretty good to me. What I would worry about is how the transition would be made. It would have to be a slow one, no doubt.
