Do you have zero tolerance for steroids in wrestling?

  • Yes, steroids should be completely banned.

  • No, if regulated I think they can be allowed.

  • I'm on the fence. Don't know enough whether to say yes or no.

I just saw one of those sigs were people list "I will not take this down until...." and one of the items the person had listed was "...until TNA implements a meaningful drug policy."

I found it kind of silly. Like that's something that really bothers you? It wasn't anyone on this forum by the way.

Anyway, it got me to thinking about what was my stance on the issue. For me, I waver on the issue, because there's a lot to consider and I don't want to get long winded, but the truth is I'm pretty lax when it comes to steroid use in wrestling.

I'm against it when it comes to mma/sports/competitive weight lifting/bodybuilding were I consider it a performance enhancer being used in a competition, but in wrestling I consider it more a cosmetic thing and would compare it to an actress getting a boob job, etc.

Also I know this is a complicated subject and years ago I'd probably disagree with myself and say something like "YOU KNOW HOW MANY WRESTLER'S HAVE DIED FROM STEROIDS?!?" But plenty of people take steroids whether prescribed or not and don't seem to be dropping like flies.

I'm not here to try and get people to be for or against steroids, I'm just interested to know as of this moment you have zero tolerance for this use in wrestling at this time.

Like if your an Orton fan, we already know Orton uses steroids and has been caught twice. Now, would Orton be "Orton" if he didn't use steroids? If he was a little skinnier or had a higher body fat percentage, would you still be a fan? Would as many people still be fans?

It's not a competitive sport. I don't care when actors do it, I don't care when wrestlers do it. I do care when professional athletes do it, just because they're is still some integrity to uphold. Integrity is a myth in wrestling.

Define "zero tolerance"

Steroids are illegal, end of story, this isn't a debate of "should they be allowed by a promotion?" because that debate CANNOT EXIST since steroids OUTSIDE OF PRESCRIPTION USE are in fact 100% illegal.

The amount of steroids athletes take are roughly 1000x the medically prescribed dose.

In short: Steroids are banned by promotions BECAUSE they're illegal. Vince McMahon was put on trial for it in the 1990s. End of story.

Drug testing exists because promoters don't want to be found guilty of enabling a felony drug charge.

I don't believe in using them but at the same time its not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. I appreciate that WWE for example is trying to hammer down on steroids but it has nothing to do with performance enhancing abilities, it has to do with the sheer number of wrestlers who have died at young ages because of drugs like steroids.

This may sound terrible but i don't think its WWE's job to make sure wrestlers don't use these things. Blaming the WWE for wrestlers deaths is not fair. Every person who takes drugs like that knows what they are doing to themselves and what they are putting in their bodies so if they do it they can only look as far as the mirror for blame. Using the argument that all great draws were only that way because they were juicing is also unfair. Cena is huge and to my knowledge he never juiced to get that physique. Some guys did but others can obtain the same by busting their ass off in the gym as well, steroids is just the quick way to results not the only way. I understand not everyone can be huge like Hogan but guys like HBK, Piper and Flair (one of the biggest names of the 80's I may add) never needed that shit to be successful, they just needed to bust their ass.

Don't get me wrong I think its great that companies like WWE are going the extra mile for their performers safeties but its not their responsibility to.
