Did rey win it all in Eddies' place?

Ok so I'm watching the 06 rumble and it hit me is that suppose to be eddie not rey. I say this because Eddie was being shot back into the main event scene and the day he died he was suppose to win the WHC. Was eddie going to main event wrestlemania that year? Was he going to win the royal rumble?
I think the eddieplotation should've been used on chavo and not rey. Come on his long time friend or his brother like nephew. If it should've been a close friend I would've picked benoit instead.
Your thoughts.

Apprantly Eddie was supposed to win the title from the(injured) Batista on the PPV following his death. So it's quite plausabile to me that he would have been in the main event that year and possibly have won the rumble. Who would I have liked to seen in the eddiesplotation angle? No one. To use someones death to try to make money sickened me then as it does now.

Chavo doesnt have as much of a fanbase and WWE cannot make money off him, which is what their about now, the reason why Cena isnt heal and why Rey was used. They did have a brief push on Chavo, getting rid of that stupid gimmic, but the fan reaction wasnt enough to push him further, a great tallent and great on promos but he has nothing that makes him unique. Eddie was meant to have a great year with a major push and yes, Mysterio most likely was used in his place, basically exploiting Guerreros death.

Beniot olready had his Rumble overcome and big Mania match, Rey was the bigger money maker, Chavo would have been the better pick had he had a big fanbase but he was kinda dull to the fans and you dont want to take a chance on a Wrestlemania main event

Chavo couldn't main event Smackdown let alone Wrestlemania. Beniot was already over enough and didn't need that angle. I don't think Rey Rey needed it either, but he was the best option. It is possible that he was gettin Eddie's spot, but I'm sure that's what he would have wanted.

Without sounding harsh, someone was always going to have to take Eddie's spot. Someone already mentioned that Rey was probably the most qualified person to receive that push. Benoit was already over and Chavo (while skilled in his own right) wasn't going to be main eventing Wrestlemania and I'm not sure if Chavo would have been able to pull it off, though I guess we will never know...

While I didn't mind Rey getting Eddie's spot, I did mind the way in which Creative played it out...it's like they wouldn't let the man rest. It seemed that they exploited the death to the absolute maximum, Orton when feuding with Rey made some hideous comments about Eddie being in hell and Rey himself always wore those 'EG' armbands for what seemed like months following Eddie's passing...in my opinion they shouldn't have made such constant references to Eddie because death is a sensitive issue and WWE handled it in an insensitive fashion.

No way should anyone's real life death be the catalyst of a make believe wrestling feud. So, while I didn't mind it being Rey who was the beneficiary of the push Eddie was likely to have received, being a close friend of Eddie etc but I didn't like the way in which some of it was handled...it's like they totally undone all the good of those classy tribute shows they had for Eddie, following those shows, WWE should have left it there and got on with things imo...

I wasn't watching wrestling at that time, but if I was, it probably would have made me stop.

Rey Mysterio winning the Royal Rumble is about as ridiculous as an 80-year old woman giving birth to a hand or a Judy Bagwell on a pole match. Those didn't make me stop, but a 140-pound, 5 foot nothing man winning the Royal Rumble would have.

Well probably, Eddie was main eventing again and I thought his time had come again. Well and you who I'd use Eddie's death to catapault to the main event? NO ONE! Its stoopid to do that 'coz your feeding of the death of a true legend! VIVA LA RAZA!

I'm really not trying to sound like a dick right now, I promise. I mean, what the Hell, it's a question, and it's sparking a discussion here. But you have to understand, it's 5:15 on my side of the pond, and I still can't get to sleep.

Of course Rey took Eddie's spot in the main event. Hell, the entire angle that shot him to the main event at Wrestlemania revolved completely around Eddie's death. He came out in a low-rider. He said he was dedicating the memory of this match to Eddie. Absolutely, Rey Mysterio took over for Eddie Guerrero's spot in the main event, and there isn't a damn way that it could have been taken any other way. Now as to whether he took his spot at Wrestlemania, well I have no idea regarding that whatsoever. Yeah, Eddie was going to win the World Heavyweight Championship one night before he passed, but that Wrestlemania was so cluster-flucky on the smackdown side, I'm not even sure Vince knew what he was doing at all going into Wrestlemania. I think that Vince wanted to do something with the Undertaker and Kurt Angle, but he completely backed away from it after the actual Royal Rumble. Usually when things get cluster-fucky, it's because plans got scrapped because absolutely nobody knew what to do, possibly because of a death. See John Morrison's ECW Title reign. All of the evidence points to what you're saying, and I'm not entirely sure what the WWE would have done if Eddie stayed alive. For all we know, Rey could very well be the longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion ever. But it's pretty much a given that Rey took over for Eddie when Eddie Guerrero passed away.

If WWE had to pick someone to get a push in Eddie Guerrero's place... Rey Mysterio was the correct choice. He is/was just as, if not MORE, popular that Eddie, so they needed someone who needed a push and had a fanbase as strong as Eddie's. But it's not like WWE gave Rey a continuous push that never stopped. After losing the World Heavyweight Championship to King Booker, he hasn't ever had any push even close to the one he had in the first half of 2006. Also, that Royal Rumble win probably wouldn't have gone to Mysterio, if Eddie had not died. But, it also wouldn't have been Eddie either. Like many sources were reporting, Eddie Guerrero was scheduled to win the World Heavyweight Championship just days after his death. He would have most likely been the champion heading in to the Rumble, so he couldn't have competed in it. But if Rey was the intended winner all along, then we would have had a rematch of Wrestlemania 21, except this time, instead of WWE Tag Team Champion vs. WWE Tag Team Champion, we would have had their match be for the World Heavyweight Championship.
