Getting Noticed By Management
Last Night I was watching NWO 06 and in the promo of the randy orton rey misterio match randy said.... YOU ARE NO EDDIE GUERRERO.....
it kinda fell strange to say that because in the last years rey misterio has accomplished so much in the wwe but the question remains...
after reys career is over..... who will you consider the greatest??

Eddie or Rey

I mean both of them have great wrestling families..... both have won numerous titles in WCW...ECW and the WWF/E..... both were WORLD champions in Smackdown... granted eddie i think was in the main event more often and you felt he belong there..... Rey has won a RR......

Who is the greatest or who do you have more respect for???

Personally, I think Eddie Guerrero is a bit overrated in terms of "greatness". Don't get me wrong, Eddie Guerrero was a very good overall worker in my opinion, but he should never have been WWE Champion. Just my opinion. Whenever I looked at Eddie, I never saw him as the guy that was sort of the flagship guy of a company. Back in WCW, Eddie's matches were often among the best on a card, which wasn't all that difficult when compared to most of the nWo members. Eddie was also pretty good on the mic, he sort of merged every sort of Latino stereotype into his character, but it did get him over pretty good.

As for Mysterio, I remember watching him for the first time when I was about 15. I'd never seen anyone do a lot of the moves he did. I was amazed by the guy's agility and speed, but I knew his limiting factor was always going to be his size. For modern American wrestling audiences, a 150 pound guy was never going to be the "IT" guy. A great in ring performer, often had the most entertaining matches in WCW during the second half of the 90s. Just like Eddie and the WWE Championship, Rey never should've won the World Heavyweight Championship. I know the whole thing was done as sort of a tribute to Eddie Guerrero, who was very much loved backstage, but that sort of dogs Mysterio's reign at the same time. It can be easily said that he got the strap because of that rather than talent.

But, as to who is "greater" out of the two, I'm probably gonna have to go with Mysterio. The guy has always been pretty exciting to watch, even today when his best days are behind him. Like I said, when I was in my teens, he did stuff that my 15 year old American eyes had never seen. His offense was innovative and almost always entertained me. Even though he's never really been much on the mic, he hasn't had to be.

id disagree and say eddie as i thought he was more entertaining to watch than rey. he was funnier and didnt get his world title just as a tribute.

Hmm

Eddie could be in the category of those who gets more of a draw from the crowd and attention because of his charisma, than for his wrestling ability.

Rey, I respect the guy and I dont mean to bash him with what Im going to say, but the guy looks like a 12 year old because of his height. He's perfect for the PG era because the kids LOVE him. His masks must be selling like hotcakes and Im sure kids dress like him for Halloween.

My choice is Eddie, he simply entertained me more.

id disagree and say eddie as i thought he was more entertaining to watch than rey. he was funnier and didnt get his world title just as a tribute.

Hey man nice post and i completley agree with what you said....

I'm also gonna go with EG because he had the likeability factor i dunno how to describe that :P

I mean he could wrestle and style of match whether matt wrestling high flying or submission type reversal thing ;D.

He was also a lot better on the mic i loved eddie's promos and i think thats what made him great.

He can also be an amazing heel or face where with rey your limited to only face.

So i'm gonna have to go with Eddie because he just was an all round great athlete.
RIP Eddie Guerrero :)

I'm gonna have to say Eddie on this one. I can not say what happened in WCW, but from 2003 on when i watched WWE i loved Eddie. Eddie got huge pops, yes so did Rey but Eddie's were much bigger. Also I have only seen 1 gimmick from Rey Mysterio and that pretty much is the ultimate underdog. Eddie had Lie Cheat Steal, Who's your Papi, and more that I cant think of right now. Eddie is a better wrestler, who was a high flyer and also had mat skills. Eddie wins hands down in my book.

i honestly dont think either of them should be main eventers especially rey. i would have to say that eddie is way more entertaining. he got over with the crowd nd young kids without wearing a mask. lets face it if rey were to loose his mask in wwe his career will go dwn the drain

Eddie Guerrero, hands down.

He had an innate charisma that showed in all of his matches and definitely in all of his promos. He displayed a great passion for the business, emphasized by putting 110% into every move, and every line of dialogue.

First, I'll say that Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest Hispanic wrestlers of...all...time. He continues to wow audiences all over even today, in the twilight of his career...despite nagging injuries. I have nothing against Rey, but just prefer Eddie.

Personally, I think Rey has been too one-dimensional his entire career. To my knowledge, he has never portrayed a heel. He got rid of the mask for a while, but WWE and possibly Rey want us to forget that pretty badly. Overall, to me he seems like a big cartoon character. Don't get me wrong, that's great for the kids and selling merchandise...but that's all he'll ever be long after he hangs up his boots.

Eddie has been an uber-face as well as an uber-heel. He could turn the switch and get the fans to immediately hate him in an instant. I think after a while, despite the heel turn at the end of his career, the fans had come to love Eddie because of the passion he displayed for the business and for performing in general. He was an ultimate entertainer. That's the reason I prefer Eddie.

I think the only knock on EG was his reliance on performance enhancers, which was ultimately his undoing. I really don't like the part of his career where his arms and shoulders ballooned because of steroids. Despite all of that, he remains one of my top three favorites of all time.

WOW...is this ACTUALLY a real post? lmao...Of course its Eddie Guerrero...thats a no brainer. I couldnt have said it better than "crap-tacular" dude...Eddie had not only the great ability to wrestle, but he also had that great ability to flip the switch anytime between face and heel and the fans would cheer like CRAZY or BOO like crazy....you could really tell the passion he had for the business. He had great mic skills, he didn't have to wear a mask in order to get over with the crowd, oh man, there's really no words to describe the greatness of Eddie....

Needless to say I'm not taking ANYTHING away from Rey...I just don't think he EVER really should've been the world champion as soon as Eddie died...a note to whoever posted this, keep in mind that Eddie would've been given the belt the night he died...and Rey would've never had it...they were really trying to put Rey over when he was feuding with a heel Eddie Guerrero...the fans, no matter what still chanted "eddie, eddie, eddie" and he was still over like CRAZY with the fans, and Rey was about to stay in mid-card status, it would have been dumb not to give it to Eddie.....Rey of course got it because of the death of Eddie...so its not like its something you can say Rey really accomplished because it was his time to win that title...he just, simply got it to boost ratings, which actually made me stop watching because I knew deep down he had only gotten it because Eddie died. Rey to me is like a cartoon...again what 'crap tacular' stated before me, just a draw for the kids...he was WAY better back in the day, his injuries have really held him back as he's gotten older, slower and fatter, he, to me was way better before he became "champion".

I got to go with Latino HEAT! Eddie was one of the best all around performers and he was great on the mic. He could make you love him or hate him. He was always over whether it was getting the big pop as a face or the heat as a heel. He was pure comedy when he was Latino Heat with Chyna and when he was lying cheating and stealing, i mean Los Guerreros started out as a heel tag team and became faces within like a month because the crowd loved them. Eddie worked his ass off for the main event spot which he consistently held from Feb 04 to the time of his death.

Dont get me wrong i like rey and all but im kinda tired of seeing the same old rey mysterio, i know he draws well for the kids and people love him but i he hasnt changed at all. plus his WHC reign was simply due to the fact that Eddie passed away and Chavo as WHC give me a break... him as ECW champ was stupid. but anyways Eddie is the best hands down.

Eddie definitely earned his WWE Championship, he traveled the world to perfect his skills and to become a hard working pro wrestler. But I wouldn't say that he is better than Rey Mysterio in terms of pro wrestling. Granted, he's amazing on the mic and is amazingly charismatic but his matches weren't as fun and exciting of Rey Mysterio. In some ways, these two have very similar wrestling styles but let's be real, Rey Rey is just the better of the two because he can do a lot more than what Eddie could and whatever Eddie did, Rey Rey did better. These two are both amazingly talented wrestlers and entertainers and though I'm having trouble saying that Mysterio was "better" than Eddie, he just really was.

Eddie he was great and to me the most complete performer at the time he was at the top. He could play a heel or a face so well kind of like Jericho right now but Eddie was better. His in ring work was fantastic watch his matches vs. Kurt Angle, Mysterio, Benoit the list goes on. Him and Rey had the most dynamic feud in years and Eddie played it perfectly.

While I respect and admire Rey Mysterio for all he's accomplished hey I'm taller than the guy and Vince put the world title on him. He's had great matches himself but overall he's not in Eddie Guerrero's league as a performer and I'm saddened every day we don't get to see Eddie grace our televisions.

Regardless of my opinions there both future WWE hall of famers.

RIP Eddie Guerrero

Both were truly fantastic wrestlers, and it's hard for me to choose. Personally, I'd say they were tied as far as in-the-ring goes. But Rey Rey definitely had the better, more intriguing look, while Eddie was more charismatic and a much better promo cutter. So, whichever is more important to you, there's your answer. But for me, match quality means more to me than anything, so my overall answer is that they're a tie.

I remember Chris Benoit's WCW debut was a match against Eddie Guerrero. The match was intense, technically sound, and remains, 15 years later, one of my favorite matches of all time. I'll never forget that match as long as I live, and if you ever needed proof that Eddie Guerrero was truly a great, great professional wrestler, watch that match and that should be all the proof you need.

As far as Rey Mysterio, well... pretty much any of his work in ECW and WCW is all you need to see how great he was. But he's also made a very good transition to the WWE style and has had some great matches there as well, like against Jericho just a month or so ago.

So, yeah... they were both great. While Mysterio's best work doesn't compare to Eddie's best work, in my opinion, Mysterio was still more consistent overall, as Eddie could be off and on depending on the situation. At the end of the day, it remains a tie in my book.

I love(d) them both. Both are great talens, great characters and great people.

Now let me compare them.

Rey is a great wrestler, but really the only style he pull off legitimately was and is lucha libre/high flyer. He's great at it, but that's really about it, he does know how to be technical, but he's not to good at it and it doesn't seem believable to me. He can't brawl, he tries too, but unless it's against someone his own size, which is rare, it looks assinine. Eddie could work many styles, ranging from Luch Libre, to fantastic technical wrestling, and he could brawl. He could take you apart with holds, or just ground and pound if he choose too, so my nod goes to Eddie for wrestling ability. He can just do more in a ring that Rey can.

Let's move on to mic work. Eddie definitely trumps Rey in this aspect of sports entertainment. Rey's not bad on the mic, he has a lot of emotion when he talks which is good, but all in all I find him rather dull and boring on the mic. Now Eddie could work the mic and work it well, he could hold the crowd in the palm of his hand. So without a doubt, Eddie steals the mic work portion hands down.

Charisma.... both Eddie and Rey have a lot of it, but Eddie is the complete charismatic package. His expressions, his tones, body language, appeal worked on many different levels. His lie, cheat and steal gimmick was met with tremendous cheers and the fans ate it up like candy. You could not help but love to hate this guy. Where as Rey, well he is captivating in the ring with his moves, but that's about it, if you really think about it, he really isn't that charismatic. So again Eddie gets the nod.

Now as far as playing a character, Rey plays the inderdog character very well, because he truly is an underdog, but picture Rey as a heel, can you actually picture it? I can't, because Rey's size, the way he has been portrayed, and his appeal oozes fave his whole career. If he tried to turn heel, I do not think it would work. I think the fans would crap on it and boo him, not because he is a heel, but because it would almost be a joke for him to try it. Rey can only ever play one thing, the lovable underdog. Now Eddie... Eddie Eddie Eddie... he could play the viscious heel that could have you hating him more that anybody. He could spit venom at the fans on the mic and could make you believe he was a heartless, ruthless, arrogant bastard. Then in the next breath if he so choose, he could have you cheering him like crazy, with that little smirk he did and that cheating to win. Eddie was a master at playing his role, which he could play many. Rey can't, so Eddie takes this piece of the puzzle as well.

As far as passion... there is no question, Eddie and Rey are very passionate guys and both eat, sleep, eat and breath wrestling. No debating this, that the passion they both had/have is a tie.

Work a match. They can both work their asses, and they can both put people over and make them look good, however the only downfall and this isn't Rey's fault, but it makes his opponents look weak and pathetic, is when Rey cleanly beats men way way way bigger than him. It's not believable, however with that aside, they can put on fantastic matches. So it's pretty much a tie there.

So if you put all the pieces of this puzzle together, you can plainly see or at least I can, that even though Rey is a tremendous talent and is one of the best, Eddie just tops him in most catagories, and you have to give the nod to Eddie as the better of the two.

Throw into the mix, the achievements both men have had in this business and the nod still goes to Eddie, so Eddie all the way, no doubt about it.
