Devon Takes the Pin and the Fall From TNA

It's Damn Real!

In what was an absolutely Pay-Per-View quality match, we've now seen the last of Devon in a TNA ring — at least as a performer. Personally, I'm gonna miss the guy. I know he's had his fair share of detractors, but this is a guy who's given eight long years to the company, who we've never heard a word of him being a problem in or out of the ring, who's wrestled in a number of their higher profile matches, has held numerous titles in his time there and been involved with a number of their larger stories. Two-time Television champion, two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion and two-time NWA World Tag Team Champion in that span.

The way I see it, he deserves a lot of credit for being, at least in my opinion, one of the better veteran signings TNA's ever had. And I'm dead serious. If you think about the list of "WWE Rejects" that have come over, few have had as successful a run in the company as Devon has.

Personally, I really hope he sticks around in another capacity. I remember reading something about him noting that he was near the end of his career in the ring anyway, so maybe a road agent or a role similar to that would be something they could work a deal out around so he can at least remain with the company. Who knows?

Either way, raise your beers and root beers one last time.

Oh, my brotha... TESTIFY!

Devon had zero business being in the ring after Bully Ray took off as a singles star. 2 completely pointless TV title reigns with one coming at the expense of Samoa Fucking Joe.

I honestly don't see what you mean by "best veteran signing by TNA". Because to me he was nothing more than an extremely generic waste of space that could easily have gone to so many others better than him. How he got wins over Jeff Hardy, Bully Ray and others as TV champion is honestly beyond me and really have no justification. I'm glad he's gone and don't want him in my TV screen again. Testify to that.

I really hope this is the beginning of the end of the whole Aces and Eights storyline. Devon has been off and on with TNA for what seems like forever now, and I really hope we don't have to see him on tv again. I think he could be a good thing backstage helping the young guys, but I agree with Killjoy that once Bully Ray took off we shouldn't have had to see Devon. He had a good career, and I think it is time for it to be over.

Dang yall i agree Devon is not all that great but he has been in the buness for a long time. i for one have enjoyed his work. it takes a lot to hang around as long as he has. i say Devon has earned my respect and he souuld have yours. DEVON GET THE TABLES

I'm with IDR and I am sad because - like Bully, he has gotten himself in much better shape in recent years and I would have really liked to have seen Team 3D have one final run in TNA. A chip on their shoulder 3D post A&8s and BFG as part of a reinvigorating of the Tag scene (possibly with American Wolves in the mix) could really have gone a long way to developing a buzz around a division that has suffered due to the necessity of BFG Series matches.

The last cool thing I remember about Devon was the Ken Anderson recruitment process. This was height of Aces & Eights decadence. The beer was flowing and the women were plentiful. It was definitely a party every night of the week. These days however, it's been completley dead and has become a shell of it's former self. If we could somehow return to those glory days, I would'nt mind Devon hanging around. Unfortunately he's not bringing anything to the table these days and I can't remember the last match he was i so....

Put me down as another fan that will miss Devon. Despite the criticism, he was a good talent, period. Would I want to see a Team 3D reunion again? Maybe. I've pulled no punches that I was and still am a fan of both Devon and Bully. And I don't care if this is just my opinion or not, but there's not a lot of guys that gets the kudos that Devon has. Thumbs up to an overall great career.

Devon is one more person to leave, what is fast becoming, a sinking ship. Since RVD left alot of talent has been "let go", or left on their own, and everyday is seems we see a new name is unhappy to be there.
In the end though, we will see DeVon and Bubba reunite to take their place in the WWE HOF. That is something I am sure of.
Whether you liked him and Bubba or you hated them, their impact on the business has been storied and great. And while Bubba moved on to a singles career and DeVon seemed to be stuck, the truth is neither one has been able to, or will ever be able to do anything to eclipse what they did together as one of the most, if not the most dominant tag teams in the history or pro wrestling.

It's funny that you guys are bashing a wrestler who help put a ton of wrestlers over for the good of the company.

Yes, Devon promos were S ranked material. No, Devon didn't have the best moveset on earth. Yes, Devon did help a ton of the mid-card wrestlers display their talent, even if they lost, while being TV champion. No, he wasn't the "IT" factor that Ace and Eights needed!

The thing is this. You don't have to be the Star of the team for the team to be champions. I can name a few basketball players who should make the Hall of Fame even if they weren't superstars. Robert Horry, Ron Harper and Dikembe Motumbo are a few players.

Like I said, you don't have to be the Star of the team for the team to win games. Just show up, give it your all and shut the fuck up until you have big shoulders!

Yea I respect him for the career he's had but his presence in TNA has been the best example of TNA being the place for useless veteran wrestlers. And having him just cause he's had success somewhere else. He should have been cut when his contract ran out in 2012 but typical old WCW mentality, Bischoff and Hogan could not let go, not only they brought him back but they made him the centerpiece of a Bound for Glory swerve, during their biggest storyline! lol They should have had him lose the TV strap to Bully at Lockdown 2012.

I am also sad to see Devon go, at times in his TNA run there were instances where the segments or matches with him were just dreadful to sit through. But for the past couple years I thoroughly enjoyed his work in the low-mid card from TV Champ defending the title every week to his Aces & 8s reveal. If this is his last match for TNA I'm glad to say I was in attendance and chanting with the crowd "THANK YOU DEVON" while he thanked us and said he loved us genuinely giving a good bye to the crowd long after the camera cut off.

That sounds fantastic, can you put some meat on the bones of the experience? Did any of the roster come out to bid him goodbye, was there any break in kayfabe, how'd his brother to a different mother and his A&8s stablemates contribute etc?

Should this be his last in-ring action, I genuinely believe you've witnessed a reasonably large piece of history here because it is looking more and more unlikely that there will be too many more Tag Team specialist retirements at the top level given that Tag Teams just don't get the respect anymore and are only used to springboard singles careers.

To be honest I don't remember any of the Impact roster besides A&8s being in the ring and I think Bully was still selling his disbelief on the entrance ramp. I really don't remember if Bully went to the ring because we were all so fixated on Devon. After the pin MEM celebrated as seen on TV, cameras stop rolling but we all think they are still rolling and the crowd start chanting that annoying ass "nanana hey hey goodbye" shit while MEM left. Then Devon stepped up on the bottom rope while grabbing the top rope (If shown on TV his back would be to the camera talking to the crowd) Then mouthed "Thank You I Fucking Love You All Your The Reason I Love This." Then we erupted with "THANK YOU DEVON CLAP CLAP CLAP THANK YOU DEVON......."

I went with my buddy I watch Impact with every week and we haven't chilled since the 15th because we spent 14 hours straight together that day going to Impact but when I see him again we will talk about it and see if there is something major I'm forgetting.

But since Devon is gone, it makes me wonder just who will replace Devon in Aces and Eights? Who will become the new Sergeant In Arms? Will it be Tito Ortiz? Most likely bet that it will be but if Tito doesn't take over Devon's spot then it will most likely be either Knox, Brisco or Bischoff that ends up becoming the new Sergeant In Arms but Aces and Eights losing a member just goes to show us that if they were to ever lose another member again then their group would crumble and ultimately dissolve
