Dec. 2011-June 2012 Face Punk was Perfect

Ruthless-RKO

F*ck Friends, Rather die wiv ma AK!
Seriously, that was his greatest face incarnation, and if or when he turns again he should use that. He wasn't just a generic guy that didn't do drugs like his 2007-2008 version, and yet he wasn't that irritating paranoid douche we got during his HHH feud. It was a perfect mix of what a top face should be- intense when necessary, but loose enough to goof on the faces and stir up the crowd.

I know the self-aware wisecracker face is generally regarded as something worse than ebola, but he's one of the few people in WWE aside from Cena that does it well, which is more than I can say for Sheamus (who should be booked more crazy, like a slightly smarter Hacksaw Jim Duggan).

As soon as he became a heel, all he's ever talked about is the amount of days he's held the WWE title.

Honestly I have to agree with you. I thought that the heel turn for Punk was completely unnecessary and that he was doing just fine as a face. And while I agree with his gripe that he wasn't getting the Main Events, I think he would have earned that right with time considering that Cena has really cooled down these past few months. Punk is a good heel, but he can be a good face too, and I think that gets overlooked a lot of the time. And while I think that his heel turn was most likely to feud with The Rock, I think he could have done that as a face as well.

I agree 100% he was the perfect face for me. A face should be able to be both funny and serious when called upon and he perfected it. Cena tries to be too funny sometimes Orton is to serious but he was the perfect mix between the two. I just wish there were some better heels for him to work with when he was a face and that he not Cena got laurinaitis fired.

The Heel turn was only a good idea for the Rock match and i think thats the only reason he turned was for one match so Rock can be the only face and get all the cheers. I've heard Punk prefers to be a heel rather than a face but he's better as a face he tries way to hard to get people to boo him. Jeff Hardy was his only great heel feud. and he had a great run as a face despite some dull storylines and being pushed down on the card despite being the champ. Face Punk>Heel Punk.

He was a good face. His few months the year previous up against the establishment before he started getting involved with HHH were much better.

Yep. He was at the top when he was a tweener, if you want to call it that. He was a good face. Pretty much ever since he's turned heel he's bored the shit out of me. Almost every promo is the same. He may do a good job at cutting them, but the content is identical. Plus the way he's booked is just awful because it's too much of a 180 from when he was a face. He's a complete chicken shit now, like pretty much every other generic heel on the roster.

I wouldn't call him a perfect face though, but at least he was different back then.

This is probably my only gripe with him as he is right now. He had no issue beating the top people by legitimate means for months and months before turning, there was no good reason why that ought to have changed especially in a climate where being very generally Robert Roode type crafty is an attribute to almost every heel persona roaming the plains. Punk would have been stronger now, I think, had they not decided on the need for him to turn into a wimp.

This week we saw him beat a 400-pound Brodus Clay who has squashed half of the active roster in less than two minutes. I would've preferred it if they could have applied that to his main event matches because it's been proven that he can make beating the odds look believable as a face. So, too, can he now.

I disagree with this. He's never shown fear to Cena and he isn't showing fear to The Rock. These are the only guys he's feuded with as a heel.

Think about the people he took on while he was still face. The only larger guys he had any kind of program with were Kane and Mark Henry, both of whom have spent large chunks of time as "Jobbers to the Stars." who have been beaten by little guys quite frequently. The rest of his reign was spent feuding with guys like Ziggler, DBry, Jericho, guys who would never draw cowardice from anyone. There was never any logical reason to think he couldn't beat those guys.

Ryback's the only person he's been a pussy with so there's some inconsistency there but that's it, really.

and that is more to do with Rybacks character than Punks you have to have heels afraid of him. He needs to look intimating for the character to work.

Heel punk isn't being booked bad in my opinion he just isn't as interesting as face punk was.

Perfect? No. But he got the best pops and crowd reactions during this time. As many have said, punk didnt have a good feud with a heel during this point. Punk is much better as the heel because he knows how to get a crowd reaction during a promo. To me, I can't stand him, everyone says his pipebomb was the best. Really? That sounded like a whining sore loser who is bitching about something he doesn't get: respect. Punk has much better feuds as a heel because his character portrays the best of him. Howevee his face run was the best reign the wwe has seen in a long time.

Heel Punk > Face Punk and I will tell you why.

His Straight Edge character is tailor made to be a heel although on paper it doesn't really seem that way. Because he's a guy who doesn't drink (which lets be honest most of us have at least a beer or 2 once in while), doesn't do drugs and has a lot of self discipline (once again something a lot of people don't have) its so easy to hate him when he takes all these facts and shoves them in our face. As Punk has often said "He's Straight Edge which means he's better than YOU!".

As a face its like "good on Punk for having so much discipline" as a heel its like "I wanna punch that smug asshole for constantly acting superior to me". People don't like it when others act superior to them but because of Punk's real in-life lifestyle he follows it makes it so much easier for him to act superior because he lives a lifestyle that very few people have the discipline to do.

Punks good as a face but he's great as a heel.

Face Punk MITB + SS 2011 > Heel Punk 2012

No it wasn't perfect. Not after his loss against HHH. It fell apart for some reason. Maybe there weren't any angles left, there was nothing left for him to rebel against. He had Vince fired, he beat the big babyface of the company, walked out with the championship...all that was left was him screaming I'm the best in the world. I wish there were better writers or that Punk could've figured out how to be a decent face in the long run but it fell apart :(

I suppose relative to any character he's been consistently cowardly when it comes to Ryback. His cowardice comes indirectly when related to other people, though, mainly in the form of backstage segments where he is colluding with Heyman to discuss how he can remove himself from a certain match or stipulation and I don't know if that directly relates to anyone.

I suppose you're right overall though. He#'s shown no signs of underhandedness when it comes to The Rock, I can't quite remember when it comes to Cena, but if anything I guess it's probably character inconsistency. And this is why the forums are good, because I can come back sometimes and see someone else's take and realise that I was a bit... wrong.
