At the moment we have two sequels that have the internet in an uproar: the fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean film titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Transformers 4: Age Of Extinction. So does anyone have any interest in Dead Men Tell No Tales Or Transformers 4? Both?

The rumored plot details for Pirates five:

With the release of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5,’ titled ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ moved to summer 2016, little is known about what we can expect from the fifth installment of the popular movie franchise. Jeff Nathanson is busy rewriting his initial script treatment for directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, but now it seems the first details of the story have spilled out.

With cursed pirate gold, Davy Jones, Calypso and the Fountain of Youth already covered, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ will next tackle …. witches and one vengeful ghost, according to Bleeding Cool, who got their hands on an early version of the script.

Jack Sparrow will have a new sparring partner in the form of a new female lead, a scientific mind accused of witchcraft. Witches, in general, are said to play a large part in the film with “somewhat less of a hoodoo flavoring.” As for the title, ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ it will be derived from another lead character, this time a ghost, “a former member of the British military now sided with Barbossa on a revenge mission.” And lastly, the film kicks off with “a rather awkward wedding” and will involve the myth of the Bermuda Triangle.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer (‘The Lone Ranger’) said ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ was delayed due to script issues. “We have an outline everyone loves, but the script is not done.” Furthermore, according to THR sources, the script “was too expensive but it was also really complicated and hard to follow.” It’ll be interesting to see which of these plot points, if any, will be cut in the process.

In an interview with Rønning and Sandberg, the directors told ScreenCrush they were inspired by the first ‘Pirates’ movie when conceptualizing the fifth film. Said Ronning:

I think we’re going a little bit back to that, the feeling of that at least. It’s a very funny, emotional script, and a great one. So it reminds us of the kind of adventure movies we grew up with – Indiana Jones movies, or movies that inspired us to become filmmakers, really. So it’s almost for us like coming full circle.

Continued Sandberg, “We believe movies should be an emotional experience. Even if it’s a comedy, at least the comedies we respond to have that as well, and like we said, we found that in this ‘Pirates’ movie as well. So we’re really looking forward to telling that story now.”

Johnny Depp (and now, apparently, Geoffrey Rush’s Barbossa) is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow, and the film, now to be released in summer 2016, is planned to begin production in the middle of next year.

You know what, if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Pirates Of The Caribbean 5. Yeah, At World's End was trash, and the Pirates franchise has become an endless streak of mediocrity and shit for the most part (the last one with the mermaids and Blackbeard was good fun), and the ambiguous endings are annoying, but there's always something to look forward to in a Pirates film: Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. Depp is still fun to watch as Sparrow, and I'll never get tired of the character, as long as Depp is the man portraying him.

But I think we're nearing an end of the line point with the Pirates franchise. Disney's last two attempts to create the next big cash cow failed miserably with John Carter and The Lone Ranger (cut down on the runtime, and The Lone Ranger is an easy contender for one of the summer's best films), and you have to believe the fans will tire of the Pirates films at some point. After all, we're on the fifth Pirates film now, and it's clear they're running out of places to go with the story.

Plot details for Transformers 4:

In 2009, we witnessed the "Revenge of the Fallen." In 2011, we were in the "Dark of the Moon." And in 2014, we'll be sent to the "Age of Extinction" as the title of the fourth big-screen "Transformers" adventure has been unveiled exclusively here on Yahoo Movies.

The title reveal comes courtesy of the first official teaser poster, which incorporates the now-familiar logo of the number "4" merged with half of a Decepticon insignia. The artwork suggests we're somewhere in the desert (or perhaps some post-apocalyptic wasteland?), and the term "Age of Extinction" makes us think that one of our all-time favorite Transformers factions will be heavily featured in the movie.

We're speaking, of course, of the Dinobots, the robots that turned into dinosaurs that were one of Hasbro's masterstrokes in the seemingly never-ending sub-groups of Autobots and Decepticons. The Dinobots were about the coolest Transformers you could own back in the mid-'80s, with the team consisting of leader Grimlock (a T. Rex), Sludge (a Brontosaurus) and Slag (a Triceratops), with Snarl (a Stegosaurus) and Swoop (a Pterodactyl) introduced later.

The Dinobots have long been rumored to be making their debuts in "Transformers 4," er, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," mostly because including those characters seems like the next logical step in the franchise's evolution. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura all but confirmed the Dinobots being featured in the film in an interview earlier this week with Beijing News:

"I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the arrival of the Dinobots will give the audience a lot to be excited about," said di Bonaventura, via Tformers.com. "The world's coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including Chinese vehicles, so whether you are a car enthusiast or not, it will be a feast for the eyes."

An interesting addendum there, as Hollywood blockbusters are all about catering to Chinese audiences lately. And they should be: "Pacific Rim" qualifies as a hit thanks to its astonishing $100 million take at the Chinese box office (more than that particular giant robot movie made in the U.S.). The new "Transformers" is being filmed in both in the U.S. and China, with Chinese singer/actor Han Geng making his English-language debut in the film.

Beyond this, plot details on "Transformers: Age of Extinction" are being kept under wraps. We do know the lead this time will be played by Mark Wahlberg, who takes over the reins from Shia LaBeouf. Wahlberg reteams with his "Pain & Gain" director Michael Bay, who told Yahoo Movies that Wahlberg plays a father in the new installment.

The cast of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" also includes Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles and T.J. Miller. The film will roll out (yeah, we almost made it to the end without including that reference) on June 27, 2014.

Johnny Depp is the main reason why I still cling to the Pirates films, but Michael Bay is the main reason why I despise the Transformers franchise. Revenge Of The Fallen is still the worst turd in the franchise, and Dark Of The Moon's runtime is just too exhausting. On top of that, Rosie Huntington-Whitley is somehow worse than Megan Fox as Shia's love interest.

I want to believe in Mark Wahlberg having the starring role as a good sign for Age Of Extinction, but with Bay behind the camera constantly blowing shit up every five seconds, and tight close up shots of the female lead's ass, it's hard to have any hope for Transformers.

If I were to hand over my (now) well-earned money to see one of these films that will be subject to derision by the masses, it would be Transformers 4.

I really like the first Pirates film. It bucked the trend of pirate films generally haemorrhaging money at the box office and introduced a new pop culture icon. Despite its length, it didn't drag for any significant amount of time and Geoffrey Rush as Barbosa was a pretty interesting 'villain'.
The rest that followed were just bloated wet messes that ran too long and tried to do too many different things.

That's not to say that the Transformers films don't suffer similar problems, Revenge of the Fallen almost made a film about alien robots fighting boring, but the franchise has alien robots, fighting.

Yes, fine, yes, Shia La Beef's role boils down to speaking like a crack-head, hypnotising women and screaming OPTIMUUUUUUUSSSSS!!!!! whilst crying over the responsibility of possessing the latest Macguffin. All the same, I haven't seen Hot Rod yet and I do like the various ways that Optimus dies then somehow resurrects himself.

:lmao:

A perfect summary of his character in the series.

Something else that annoyed me was the need to rehash the tired sub-plot of the nervous, shy, and nerdy guy pursuing the hot girl for the 702,486 time. When they announced Fox wasn't coming back for Dark Of The Moon, I was happy, because I thought there was a chance they could do something different. But surprise! In comes Rosie Huntington-Whitley, a former Victoria's Secret model, and a worse actress than Megan Fox. Fucking Michael Bay.

It's one of the reasons why I enjoy the Jack Sparrow character more. They always tease a relationship with him, but Sparrow always does something to intentionality sabotage a potential relationship. Although, they almost had me fooled into believing Jack would finally settle down with that special someone in the last film with Penelope Cruz's character.

Is Shia le OPTIMUUUUS!!!! going to be in the next transformers? I haven't kept track with who is in and out of the next instalment, but it's safe to say that they don't need a Sam Witwicky to further the plot, what with what has happened in the previous 3 films.

You've got a point with Sparrows lack of a female interest and instead his pursuit of artefacts that would make him be known as a great pirate. I guess the rapist pirates wouldn't be a good move for Disney so having a pirate who doesn't seem as interested in women was a decent enough move.

Nah, Shia isn't coming back. He's trying to be a more serious actor now, and he openly trashed the "Hollywood system" not too long ago. On top of that, he blamed the system for ruining the relationship between Spielberg and himself. The serious stuff started with Lawless, followed by the movie with Robert Redford (Shia plays some kind of investigative reporter, who gets caught up in a scandal, when he stumbles across the wrong story), and I think he's got another independent movie coming up, where he's supposed to be a sex addict or something like that.

Lulz. Agreed on all of this, especially the part about Disney staying in the family friendly only zone.

At this point I have no interest in seeing either movie, the last two transformer movies have just been torturous to sit through, & at this point I flat out refuse to pay to see anything pile a dog shit Micheal fucking Bay wants to put on teh big screen & pass off as movie. As for Pirates, I thought the first one was great, the second was ok, & the third was terrible, & didn't even bother with the fourth, & likely won't bother with a fifth film either. It's a shame they didn't reign in things with The Lone Ranger a little better, if you cut out about 20-30 mins. of that film you'd have a pretty great summer blockbuster.

I have a 3 year old son who's whole world revolves around Transformers...A new Transformers film means I get to watch something different every day when I finish work so, Transformers it is for me.

plus DINOBOTS!!

Hm, there are pros and cons to both. I'd say I am more interested in the new Pirates film. I've always been a sucker for the POTC franchise. Enjoyed all of the films. And I love the cast and mythology surrounding it. That said, I don't know about witches. That could take a horrendous turn.

On the flip side, I have never liked the Transformers franchise. Absolutely hate everything that Michael Bay touches. I've found the scripts weak and the actors shitty, with the exception of John Tutturo. However, I have always enjoyed the Beast Wars and the Dinobots more than the regular Transformers. So if in fact Bay goes the route of Dinobots, well then I am very interested in seeing how that turns out.

I would be more interested in watching Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, easily. I've enjoyed every single film in that series with the exception of the 3rd one. The series more than redeemed itself with the 4th film and Depp's portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow again is enough to generate interest in me for watching a 5th film in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series. Dead Men Tell No Tales sounds like it has a promising storyline, I'm curious to see what direction they will end up taking it.

Then we have Transformers 4. I was dragged out to watch the Transformers film that came out in 2007 with a friend I knew in college who was obsessed with the Transformers franchise. He had grown up watching the cartoons and played with the toys, etc. It never interested me. Not even the older material such as the old shows and the toys. I only came because I was bored and he offered to pay. Michael Bay ruined a film that likely would have bored me anyhow, I cannot stand his style. So due to that I never watched any of the other Transformers films. You couldn't pay me to watch the 4th one. Bay is still involved and I was never into that franchise to begin with.
