current wrestler who's career has been hurt by drug abuse

hmm i would probably say john morrison. he had recieved the biggest push of his career. i mean ya he was gonna drop the ewc title to punk eventually anyway but still, not seeing him for 4 weeks was a huge momentum killer for the guy. im sorry but im not even gonna say hardy. after hardy won the title the wwe played off the drugs and it made him look like more of a hero after over coming them.

It is very sad that Umaga and Eddie Guerrero passed away due to drug problems. And both of their names were Eddie. Weird huh?! They were both great wrestlers.
QUOTE]

yeah and you didnt mention even weirder is mr kennedy anderson wrestled both of them in what was their last match creeeeeepy

but yeah i really dont think drugs ruined rvds career he left the wwe on his own accord and i dont think he could have been happier when he left has anyone else watched rvd tv?

anyway first thought to my mind was just from the name of the post was eddie guerrero who was/is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time ive read his book several times and the last report i did in high school (and the only report i got an A on in high school) was a chronicle of his life hehe it was so fun to write but sad at the end it made my mom cry and she doesnt even watch wrestling

but i know its about living wrestlers i just had to give my tribute out to eddie but the first wrestler i thought of was hurricane he was getting a decent push and would have probably been pretty succesful had he not had a problem with drinking now you might not have listed aclohol in your list of street drugs but alcohol is a serious drug too and an alcohol addiction can be just as bad as any other drug addiction

now obviously he had a problem we found out after his arrest and i think thats what ultimately led to his release i mean things were going down anyway when he was demoted to ecw than kicked out of the rumble and now look he's done its sad as i was always a fan of him from wcw to hurricane to gregory helms to hurricane helms in fact im probly one of the few people who enjoyed his feud with paul burchill matchwise

another wrestler i think would be juventud guerrera his wcw career ended abruptly cause he went crazy off of some pcp or some shat he smoked with konnan and psicosis and probly even rey mysterio lol in rey's book apparently he went nuts and started speaking nonsense and like ran through a hotel buck naked but yeah according to his website he wasnt released from wwe due to any drug addiction but cause he had an attitude problem idk though he could have been just as big as mysterio but i think the drugs messed that up

and did anyone else feel a HUGE BLOW TO THE GUT when mysterio REY MYSTERIO (eddies best friend eddie who died cause of his past pain killer and alcohol addiction) got suspended for violating the drug policy FOR PAIN KILLERS it was like REY NO WHAT THE HECK WHYYYYYY i was never so shocked and dissapointed in a wrestler for something they did in their private life

but other wrestlers would be lance cade which has already been said and i didnt see this but joey mercury he didnt have the brightest future but he could have atleast been upper midcard who knows maybe this time around things will be different

thank you and good night

Am I allowed to include someone who's career has been hurt by other people's drug abuse? Because, if I am, the name I would include is Matt Hardy. An addiction to pain killers has led Jeff to fail multiple drug tests in WWE, and leave the company twicebefore the thrid strike. Without Jeff to punish for his own actions, WWE has taken all of it out on Matt, who has been turned into a lower mid-card jobber. It really is kinda sad to see what has been made of his career, especially since Matt's easily the better Hardy in the ring, in all respects.

i was thinking all of this too cause matt hardy was not only close to jeff who the E was really behind he was also really close with hurricane and shannon moore now idk if drugs had anything to do with shannon moores lack of push but it did with hurricane and now matt hardy (who i wouldnt be suprised to find out if he had a drinking problem too due to how bloated he is anymore and sloppy and his drunken interview about how next year his entire moveset will change from 09) is reminding me a lot of scott hall

Another case of the young and dumb..I mean uninformed. Jeff Hardy left the WWE because he was hoping to start up some sort of TV gig on either MTV or somewhere along those lines. WWE wanted to resign him but Jeff didn't want to put his body through that much abuse. Jeff then left the company because he DIDN'T resign...
Jeff was the SETUP by police officers. Let's face it if Jeff wasn't setup this case wouldn't be delayed for so long.

But my vote goes for Eddie G & Scott Hall.
Eddie because it eventually ended up taking his life. Still one of the saddest moments in all of sports.
Scott Hall is another because it cost him his family.

are you saying Jeff doesnt have a drug issue then? i mean, set up? really? you think that was all because of him not resigning with WWE?

and yes, steroids are a drug that have ruined lives (Benoit for example..) but the reason i left them out was because then people would bring in the likes of Hogan and all others in the Steroid Scandal.

waldobrown. to make you a bit happier, rey did have a prescription for the pain killers. he just didnt provide the paperwork in time, but he did have it. he never abused them to my knowledge.

William Regal is clearly the obvious case here, he has had the "machine" behind him several times, and blown it due to his mishaps... However he has, and always will have a job... so I don't count him as the worst...

I'd say Kurt Angle was the worst when he left the WWE... There was talk of "dead man watch" on him, that he was going to be a casualty if he didn't get help... and looking back he clearly was messed up... that they let him go and that the reduced schedule seemed to work is a blessing in disguise...

I also think anyone who refuses to go to rehab on request is damaging their career... not just with WWE, but in general... because it shows a general disregard for their priviliged position. In any other entertainment field, identified recreational drug use would incur scandal and sanctions up to losing jobs. In WWE it is seemingly ok... but you get fired for not cleaning up when asked... which is pretty lenient overall... if the company thinks there is enough of an issue to ask you to go to rehab (which they are paying for) surely its a no brainer to do it...

Oh no without a doubt Jeff has drug issues but I don't really think that the drugs have TOTALLY affected of hurt his career. Let's face it he was gaining mega pushes and up until he left he was getting high profile pushes. The WWE pushed him to the moon towards the end of his contract in an attempt to keep him. Jeff has been a big part of the WWE. TLC matches, Ladder Matches, helping push the tag division.

But Jeff has reportedly been in talks about producing or being involved with outside projects. And with the WWE's schedule doing so would be impossible to do. If it was DRUGS that hurt his career then I don't think TNA would have exposed themselves to that. I mean if a guy is already facing drug trafficking charges why would you sign him? That would spell DOOM to any company unless they had faith he was going to have the charges dropped.

I really can not mention names. I feel this is something that comes with the wrestling territory. Especially in the WWE where they run these guys into the ground and do not supply them with proper care. And when I say care I dont just mean health insurance I mean they need to do alot more than just drug test, everyone knows that drug testing in sports and wrestling is a joke. Addiction is a very big problem in our country and statisitically they say 4 out of 10 americans suffer from it in one way or another, so with that being sad with the amount of ppl trying to make it in the wrestling world some of them will be exposed to it. But I dont think their careers should be given up on which drives them further into their use until a company has done everything to help them. Especially if they once were a big draw for your company that made you millions!

This is a pet peeve of mine.

I don't wish to lump you all into the same boat but it seems there are a small few of you who think they have the right to ridicule, belittle and look down upon people who have battled or continue to battle with drug addiction. What makes any of you think you have the right to call Jeff Hardy, RVD, Regal or any other wrestler a "druggy fuck up" or the like?

I think the main reason many within the IWC think and act the way they do is that many of them have never been around drugs, let alone been addicted to them. In which case I don't think they have the right to judge, demean or complain about anyone. If you've never been addicted to a substance, if you've never needed a substance to get through the day then you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. You can read all of the books and magazines you want but if you haven't experienced it first hand you shouldn't act like an expert.

Further, I believe many of you don't understand why some of these athletes turn to these substances. If you look at Hardy's life it isn't very hard to see why this man has turned to drugs, he lost mother at 9, his remaining parent (according to the Hardy's themselves) wasn't affectionate and didn't exactly reassure his sons that he loved them. I can't claim to know much more about Hardy's life but he is fairly withdrawn from society, that doesn't happen naturally. Many people use drugs as an escape and a release from these problems, it gets them through the day. There are so many kids I went to school with that are addicted to weed and have been for years, the vast majority of them are occasional e and coke users. I know these kids, I talked to them every single day, it's fairly obvious why they turned to these substances. Their dependence on substances don't make them "fuck ups", they're decent people, it makes them unfortunate casualties of a shit system.

Many of you sit behind your computer and harshly judge and ridicule individuals you don't know who use substances many of you don't really understand. Do you not know how pathetic that really is? Unlike the vast majority of IWC fans I don't believe any wrestlers owe me anything, I may be helping to pay their checks, I may have helped put them where they are but when they went out and wrestled their match and gave it their all, they don't owe me anything after that. I have been a massive Hardy fan since I was about 9 years old and they were still in the daisy tights and everytime he slipped up I felt deflated but I didn't have the right to ridicule the man, just like I have no right to say anything to an actual junkie on the street. If many of you spoke to a junkie on the street the way you arrogantly speak about Jeff Hardy, you would rightfully be put in the hospital.

I don't want to sound too high and mighty but I think many of you should keep your mouths shut about drug abuse until you understand it. Any wrestler who has had drug issues has paid the price, they don't deserve public ridicule.

I'm going with the most obvious (Or second most obvious) with Jeff. How many times was he given the ball and how many times did he drop it? Left back in '03 when I was a come and go sorta guy so didn't get a chance to see his stuff but knew who he was upon his re-debut in '06 but looked up why he left and read on forums and so on. Then there's his suspensions, first time, please correct me if I'm wrong, was in '07 I believe, he was gone for a while and at that time I wasn't that big on reading stuff on the 'net like I am today so didn't know why he went, then there's '08, arguably on a huge roll, IC Champ, just defeated Triple H but came up short against Orton only to earn a shot at MITB only to get suspended again. Rumours stated he was going to win MITB as well. Then he was a good boy for a year or so before feeling burnt out and decided to leave. Ton of rumours circulated about a WWE return but nothing came of it so he returned to TNA because of the way Punk spoke on him in his Breaking Point promo, days after his drug charges began and to this day the case is still on-going. Had he not had so many drug problems, he could've been the face of the company. The guys what, 32/33, about the same age as Cena, so could've had more feuds with more guys (HBK vs. Jeff would've been great at WrestleMania), maybes a Rumble win and become a top star of the decade, yet he was only really a top star for about two years, now he's let himself go a lot and from what I've heard he's changed in the ring as well (Since I don't watch TNA myself)

Another one is Mr. Anderson, he was on fire in '07 but the fire was put out when he was injured during his MITB run which Edge capitalized on, won the briefcase and a day later cashed it in on 'Taker to win his first of 5 World Titles, a spot that was reserved for Kennedy. But then he was set to be named the son of Vince, but a suspension cut his push short and we all know how that storyline turned out, and he didn't seem to do much after that, had a feud with HBK, but after that nothing that memorable. I think, had he not been suspended that he would've had a huge push, being named the son of VKM, possibilites are endless, or at least were endless.
