Crossovers: WCW To ECW

NSL

Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
This one may be a little tougher than the others. So many guys went from WCW to ECW, that it's harder to find a list of wrestlers that went from WCW to ECW. That being said, who do you think had the best transition? Or, who do you think benefited the most from the move?

My choice, is unquestionably, 2 Cool Scorpio. He was nothing in WCW, and ended up as a multiple-time TV Champ for ECW. He did a great job of wrestling younger talent, and used this time as a boost on to a great career in Europe and Japan. Of course there was the lateral move to WWE as Flash Funk afterwards, but this move is what made him the name he is today.

Mick Foley, Cactus Jack, whatever.

ECW really wasn't anything special until old Mick Foley decided to show up in the land of Extreme and really thrive with the Jack character. Mick Foley was the first legit name to come into the company and give it a credible name. Yes, Terry Funk was there on and off, but he didn't become a staple of the company again until 1997.

Mick Foley helped make Mikey Whipwreck a legit star, helped make Tommy Dreamer, a legit star, gave the Sandman someone to compete with. A lot of guys that became stars in ECW owe it to the incredible mic and ring work of Mick Foley, and the strength of the Jack character.

Its not that hard at all. You take a guy who was a tag team champion with Ricky Steamboat in WCW. This guy was a young good looking babyface. You make him bitter pissed off and let him say whatever is on his mind. of course I am referring to the one and only Franchise of ECW Shane Douglas. From throwing down the NWA title, to the triple threat, from francine to making TAZ it is the Franchise who carried the company from 94 until 98.

Not sure if he should belong in WCW to ECW or WWE to ECW, but what about Bam Bam Bigelow. He was the monster of ECW for years once arriving.

Foley is a good one, but this one can probably be put to rest at this STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN honestly how could anyone compete the rock didnt go this route and neither did hulk. so in terms of mega stars those are the damn near universally accepted top 3 (money and over wise) so Austin wins this one. If not for this move who's to say any of us would even remember him, had he not went to ecw after being fired by wcw. For all any of us know on this very site one day you'd see a thread asking what ever became of "stunning steve austin". What if Austin never went to ecw (this allowing wwf to notice and knab him) could be its own probably longer more thought provoking thread. Nothing wrong with this thread just saying "what woulda happened if...?" will always make you think more than "based on what happened with...who got the best deal" So not a dig just trying to emphasize that a what if involving Austin of all people would get people talking a bit . cant say flash funk "what ifs?" would have the same result.

The problem with your argument is this is who was the best jump from WCW to ECW and the facts are Austin did next to nothing for ECW over the long hall. Yes Austins jump to WWE from ECW was huge because of who Austin became, but that did not help ECW at all. he never carried and ECW title, and while his stay in ECW helped land him his WWE deal, that in no way benefited ECW.

I was under the impression the question was about: the wrestler who benefited most, not the company that benefited most. If I misinterpreted the question than you statement works as I fully agree ECW hardly gained anything at all especially considering how short his stay was. Then again even if I did understand the question properly My answer is that of in the long run and could very well and might as well me the answer to the who benefited the most going from ecw to wwf to me austin wins both those arguements and essentially im saying, Austin by being fired from wcw, and getting to wwf, counting all the stops along the way was the wrestler who personally benefited the most from switching amongst the 3 companies being discussed. and i can go back to the top 3 money making and over wrestlers once again the rock wwe homegrown hogan going to wcw wasn't such a huge jump up for him, some would say a jump down, others just to the other side nevertheless not comparable to Austins path and what he got out of it. So having already covered if i did or didnt understand the question correctly...I;d like to extend that if the 6 threads were to have been made just to figure out which wrestler singularly and personally speaking gained the most by moving to a different company I'd say Austin.

If the question were, as you put it, which wrestlers move was most beneficial to the company they switched too. as far as wcw to ecw is concerned as much as foley again isnt a bad answer, your answer of shane douglas would be near impossible to argue against and I'm not going to sit here and say who Shane is and what he did this is a wrestling forum so if your reading this you know what the hell im talking about anyway, and if your new to this site or wrestling in general read some old threads, look up names on wikipedia or in this instance buy the rise and fall of ecw.

Raven. He was nothing in WCW but when he went to ECW he became instantly awesome. Raven really found his niche in ECW. His character was awesome, his matches were good and his look was perfect for ECW. There's not too many classic ECW moments that Raven wasnt involved in. For that, Raven deserves a lot of credit.

the problem with your answer though is when stev went from ecw to the wwe he was not superstar steve austin or even stone cold steve austin, he was the uber lame and ineffectice ringmaster. the highlight of his early career was being million dollar champion. the move from ecw to wwe did not really pay off for him, until he became stone cold and did promos more simular to his superstar steve austin gimick. and yes im well aware of the many things that have gone wrong in troy martins life. im also aware that without him there likely would have been no ECW and though he has made mistakes in later years, i prefer to look at him for the entirety of his work.

Now as far as crossover from WCW to WWE when considering Steves short run in ECW I would say Steve is by far the biggest crossover star that went from WCW to the WWE. it is simply how you choose to look at his ECW run. I see it as a short cross over while his no compete clause expired. Much like Ravens second ECW run.
