For the future that is.

As far as I'm aware he's still with the company. I think he quit, then found out WWE wasn't intrested. And from what I can gather TNA are just making him sweat by not doing anything with him at the moment. I might be wrong though. But it's not relevant either way.

The guy has experience. He's been in the top two wrestling promotions, and the guy frequently wrestles in Japan. I'm guessing he's still pretty young, no older than 35.

He's wrestled in WWE, not a huge success. But he still knows what it's like. He then went to TNA, and got a good push, same as in Japan. All of which will lead to a lot of experience for him. More so than wrestling on indy cards where he's fighting guys who are smaller, less talented and will with experience, in front of crowds of 200 people. It's not the same as Shelly, Lethal and others learing in ROH. That style is niche, and the biggest promotion in the world doesn't promote it. But Tomko is wrestling in Japan. A place that a lot of great wrestlers and personalities have learnt ply their trade. Vader, Hogan, Benoit etc.

When WWE wants him back, or if TNA becomes the promotion is should be, will Tomko be one of the better, more rounded stars?

I think that Tomko "quit" but not on any kind of bad terms. I believe I read that he felt TNA interfered with his much more lucrative Japanese bookings, and that he would much rather work for TNA on his off dates, than the opposite way around.

Tomko is an interesting character. There's something special about him, but it never seems to click. For whatever reason, I have just never watched anything with Tomko and felt any kind of connection to his character, good or bad. He's just always there, but he always feels important. Just not important to me.

If that makes sense. I think if Tomko could ever find something that connects with the fans, and then run with it, he could be special. The question is if he'll ever find it, or even if he'll ever care to find it with a US based wrestling promotion.

May I remind you that Tomko actually beat the TNA world champion and TNA's biggest star in Kurt Angle clean. More than clean. It was a squash. But even more than a squash. Tomko actually dominated the match, kicking the shit out of the world champion. He then proceeded to pin Kurt as AJ hesitated to start the count, hesitated to hit two, then lit up and took five before counting three.

I'd say that means TNA has confidence in him but, well, it's TNA.

I'm sort of like Sly with his oddly explained feelings. He seems over enough with the crowd, like he's important or something. I just don't get it though.

Could he be? There's only one way to find out. It involves waiting.

True, Tomko did give Angle a huge beating in the match you are referring to. However a few days later Angle destroyed Tomko in that MMA style match, which was practice for Angle's PPV match with Somoa Joe at LockDown.
Will Tomko ever become huge in TNA? I really can't see it. Sometimes the guy looks a bit wimpy, thin, and even ill, this in comparison to the other TNA stars. He is a wrestler who's wrestling ability ranges from above average to good, which is better than the majority of WWE's talent, this since in the WWE the majority cannot really wrestle, so therefore he would benefit WWE more and this is more likely the place where he could become big.

=\ im gonna say, i enjoy tomko, like the sly/sam said tho, theres just something about him thats special, that i dont understand....

i wonder what it is tho, i enjoy seeing him wrestle, but im never really deep into his stories...like take the shawn/jericho storyline, i cant wait to see what unfolds next, then take tomko's and i mean sure its interesting, but its not what draws me to watch....just an interesting filler, the guy will be special, if its in the US then were honored to see it, but if its in japan, those lucky asians :(

I actually like Tomko very much and I think it's a shame TNA seems incapable of doing something worthwhile with him. For a bigger guy, he is pretty good. Better than Morgan would ever be, I think. And he has that cockiness and some menace to him that a guy his size should have. But I have to agree that there is something missing... Can't quite put my finger on it, and I'm not willing to blame creative for it just yet. He is talented, has a pretty nice tough guy look and he seems to be much closer to having that "it" that Joe seems to completely lack. It's a crying shame that TNA doesn't fully exploit that man's potential, for whatever reason. He could easily be much bigger than what he's actually been so far. Tomko's got my vote but if he's happier in Japan, I wish him the best.

In a word, no. Tomko has never been anything special. Average wrestling, average mic skills and charisma and pretty much a bland an unoriginal gimmick. TNA should push guys who deserve it like Styles, Christian Cage and Bobby Roode. Tomko won't ever be a draw and I can't imagine him ever being an overly entertaining in-ring competitor.
