Cody Rhodes, an afterthought?

Cody Rhodes Diva
I noticed that Cody Rhodes is being relegated to the WWE midcard scene (which included being on WWE Superstars two out of three weeks) while other heels such as the Big Show, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, and even Heath Slater and Damien Sandow.

I heard rumors that Rhodes is being held back due to backstage behavior problems but what do you think is holding Rhodes back right now?

well, Ziggler was moved to superstars too a while back. He'll really take the Ziggler Road IMO and have a WHC title match at the Royal Rumble (or something like that).... Basically, he's not at ziggler's level yet, even though they're comparing him to ziggler. Ziggler spent a lot of time in the midcard and Rhodes will probably have to do the same. His career is not in danger, it just takes time ;)

I am of the opinion that the only way Cody Rhodes can ever get over is by having a popular manager like Flair or Jericho (once he leaves) or by becoming a part of a stable under someone like Cena or Punk.

He was earlier part of a stable under Orton, but that stable only helped Orton and did nothing for Rhodes or Dibiase.

I say WWE should make a stable consisting of Punk, Rhodes, Cesaro and Sandow, and slowly and slowly push all these superstars under Punk either as a face or a heel by turning on Punk.

Stables like Nexus, The Corre, SES, Legacy did not build any stars.

It is actually a shame because I think if Cody Rhodes was kept out of the title picture and focused on the IC title he would have a really got start to a long career. But since the Miz has filled that role I am okay I am a bigger Miz fan than Rhodes. I only just started to like Rhodes before they killed him.

Rhodes needs something to help him along. What I would like to see is him and Dusty. The american Dream baby as a manager of a face Cody, it might be enough to get him back on a roll again as the top mid card talent. ( I can't believe I am going to praise TNA) But similar to how they work Austin Aries. Stay at a certain level til you have dominated it then move up. Even throw a heel Golddust in there near a Wrestlemania. Golddust could say his title was the best and he was the best ever IC champ two belts in to one.

Cody Rhodes will be fine. There's been plenty of people who were put on the back burner for a bit before being pushed. Cody's still really young and has a long, successful career ahead of him. I'll start worrying if he's still on Superstars by the end of the year.

You do realize he just faced Sheamus last week right? The WHC. I know he lost and all, but he is still in the upper mid card scene. They simply dont have anything for him atm. He has had a match at just about every ppv in the past year, something not anyone but the main eventers have gotten. I guarantee he will have a match at summerslam, and will probably get a world title shot before wrestlemania.

Well well I'm happy there is a discussion about Rhodes here. I wouldn't worry at all for him. Afterall Superstars IS tecnically a WWE show. And it's one where he will probably always go over while managing to improve in the ring and look good. I believe that he's the future cornerstone of WWE alongside Ziggler and Morison if he ever decides to comeback and they accept him... They are arguably the 3 best young talents that WWE has produced in the last years. Cody already has a good resume of accomplishments and history. He has the look. What I would personally like to see is him bring back the mean streak and darkness from his masked gimmick which is what made me a hardcore fan of him and his style. Just let him improve over the next few weeks until there is a good challenger for him. I read the spoilers and it seems like he will begin an angle were he complains about his lack of time.

Stupid. Just stupid.

Marks don't understand the concept of paying one's dues, or trying to ignite a character. Cody Rhodes would fail horrifically in the main event scene right now. He's not a believable main eventer and he's not going to draw a dime. Stupid marks who think they know what's going on because they can read cheat sheets are the most profound imbeciles I've ever seen. Dolph Ziggler was jobbing out to see how he'd react to putting someone over, and to build a slow tension towards his push. Yet everyone bitched and whined and moaned and groaned and wouldn't stop throwing their little hissy fits that he jobbed to Brodus Clay.

Cody Rhodes will be pushed to the main event, when he earns a main event spot. Period.

What makes you so sure he wouldn't draw? With his previos feuds, expousure, championship reigns, and great matches I believe he could easily transition into a WHC or I dare say even WWE championship shot with the minor adjustment I added. Heck I watch streams for PPVs but I would pay to see him in the official Main Event. And I believe he will end the streak in WM 30.

End The Streak? Are you serious bro? I think Taker retires with the streak intact.

There is nothing wrong with the slow build. Too many guys want "their" guy rushed to the main event scene. What's the rush? Cody Rhodes is still very young and there's no need to put him in the main event so quickly. I remember when guys wrestled for many years before getting a main event spot(Bret, HBK, even HHH). I look at guys like Del Rio, who in my mind was rushed to the ME status and honestly he makes for a dull champion, but now if he battles for the I.C. title sometime it would be a step down. Why do that to Rhodes? Besides, they're going to need some future top stars when some of the others leave i.e. Punk & Jericho.

He isn't an afterthought. What we're seeing now just looks weak after the constant pushing he's received the past couple of years, appearing on both brands week after week and having juicy programs written for him all the time.

He's a pretty good performer with a decent look but I've never understood why management has given him so much to work with while ignoring so many others.

Now, Cody is in a down period. We don't know why: maybe they're getting ready to push him to the moon again.....or maybe they've realized he isn't main event material. But he's still around; just not as much in recent weeks.

Still, I'd wager a lot of wrestlers would love to have the exposure given Cody.

I don't think its anything to be concerned about. In the past, at this point in his career Cody would be still paying his dues around the bottom of the card, without a sniff of any title. To be where he is and had the success he has had at his age is really impressive anyway.

I think he has alot of potential, and could be a main eventer, and probably will. But there is no point rushing him, and then him failing when thrown to the top of the card like Jack Swagger did, and arguably Miz too. Dolph Ziggler will be the next mid-card talent to get a run on top, and then after that I could see Rhodes being given the push.

He has the look, the heritage and the talent. His time will come, he just needs to wait his turn.

I think he will eventually get there. But right now there is much better competition better than him and that have a better look. Sorry but he has a look of a scrawny little kid. I will say I think he is better on the mic then Ziggler. But skill wise there are a few that I feel are better then what he is.

I understand your POV. But I believe that he AT LEAST needs a World title ppv shot. I''m sure he has earned it with his last two wrestling years. And regarding the streak... I see a lot of Orton in him and the only reason I think nobody has beaten the streak is because It needed to reach 20-0 first and thats why I think he had the rematches and angles vs HBK and HHH to give better importance to it now. And I predict Cena is next and then at WM30 it would make sense to put a future superstar on top to simbolize the next era of wrestling and what better than a great second generation star.
