CM Punk vs Dolph Ziggler at 1/1/12.....are you looking foward to it?

Getting Noticed By Management
very simple question....

are you anticipating this match? do you think that should it even take place? this two stole the show a few weeks ago and had a phenomenal match and there is no questions that both these men can go but shoudl they? with the royal rumble so close and Ziggler being one of the most popular candidates to win it should we see this match so close to Wrestlemania? of course Ziggler could not win it but still id like to think than when two superstars meet at big events some times they can say that this is the first time this 2 have crossed paths!.....

opinions?

No I'm not since we all know that this will not end in a 'clean' way. Vickie Guerrero and Jack Swagger might get involved. Zack Ryder might get involved. John Laurinitis will most likely be involved. If this is a fair fight I'm sure this will be anticipated. But for now, I can say that this match will not be interesting at all.

Should be a great match. But the fact that they are having this match again tells me that Dolph is not wrestling for the WWE title at Royal Rumble or Wrestlemaina. I think Dolph is the favorite to win Raw's MITB in 2012.

Looks like they are setting up Punk vs Laurinites at Royal Rumble. :lmao:

This "match" isn't going to be match, they will entertain for about 2 minutes, then either Johnny Ace, the 1/2/12 promo guy, or Swagger & Vickie will get involved if not all of them. Resulting in Punk still being WWE Champ.

Why should I care about a match with no build or storyline behind it? I couldn't care less about this match.

Why should I care about a match with no build or storyline behind it? I couldn't care less about this match.

Because hopefully this is the start of the build. The way both Punk and Ziggler reacted after the match set the scene perfectly. I think this feud would be amazing. The match they had on Raw last month was great and from a wrestling stand point, they could put on as good of a match as any. I really hope that the WWE builds this as a feud into a match at the Rumble. Who else could contend for the title? Miz? Del Rio? Cena? Let's be honest, which would you rather see? It could be a feud that continues into the Elimination Chamber since Ziggler will likely be in it.

Yeah I think it will be a good match as long as they do it right and not have laurnitais interfer and ban vickie and swagger from ringside

Reminds me a lot of the Morrison/Miz match from the New Years Raw last year. As the #1 contender to the title, most people thought Morrison was going to face Miz for the belt at the Royal Rumble and were disappointed that the match was placed on Raw. A lot of people complained that that match had no build and was being rushed - just as a lot of you are doing right now. That turned out to be a fantastic match, and I expect the same from this match. Even better, most anticipate this match being interrupted by the reveal of the 1/2/12 promos.

So yes, I'm very much looking forward to this match. Two great workers in a match that COULD be interrupted by a highly anticipated moment ...

This match will culminate in CM Punks next feud commencing.
Ziggler is not main event level yet, plain and simple. The match on 1-2-2012 will have all sorts of interference and false finishes, but if Ziggler is losing to Bryan on Smackdoen, hes not beating Punk for the title on Raw.
I personnally think Jericho is returning with a female valet/manager. Jericho has always stated that if and when he returns, he wants to re-invent his image and persona. He will need to be a heel to feud with Punk. The vignettes have been made specifically to bring Take rback if Jericho's eeal is not finalised before Raw next week. Exactly the same as last February when Sting was siging with WWE but ultimately went back to TNA so Taker was used for those as well. Ziggler will not win the Royal Rumble, but yes I agree MITB later in the year he will be ready by then to be elevated to the top of the card

This should be a good match. Its high time they pushed ziggler to main event level. They've already shown he can put up a good match and can take bumps and sell moves properly. Plus it would be good to see Punk v Vickie/Johnny Ace.

It is going to be a great wrestling match, so I am looking forward to it. Both are great talents. CM Punk will most probably (and rightfully so) remain the champion, it is not the right time for Ziggler to be the champion. IMO he is should not even win the rumble, he is a special one but he is bound to be overshadowed by other events related to mania so I think they should wait. But yeah , I think it is going to be well worth watching, I guess it will shape future events too.

As purely a wrestling match i'm soooo excited. I'm not excited because I already know the outcome. Frankly though, I don't care. I just hope that the match is long enough that we'll see lots of good wrestling before the eventual conclusion or interference.

I'm not really looking forward to it because of the following reasons:

-Dolph isn't an over-the-top name(He could be some day, but not now) yet that would thrill the casual fans. Sure, he's capable of putting on good matches but he's not really on a level yet that would get casual, non-smarky, fans up their asses and acknowledge him. The casual fan in me beats out the mark, so I'm one of the people who don't exactly find Dolph to be Heaven's sent to the WWE(Though I do like how he performs in the ring, it's just that I'm not yet emotionally invested into his character).

-If the "It Begins" guy is connected to this, the possibility of a DQ finish exists.

Ultimately, I'm thrilled of the possibility that Dolph will be given chances to perform in the main event this coming 2012 because I support the youth movement in the WWE. If this leads to a Rumble match between him and Punk, I'm all for it because Punk needs to beat more names in his reign anyways and Zigzag man gets exposure. As for their encounter on the second of January? Not so much.

Someone mentioned the John Morrison vs The Miz match for the WWE Title in the first RAW of 2011, and this is also what I'm thinking.

That match seemed a bit rushed, and it wasn't part of any true feud. But it was awesome, by far one of the best matches of the whole year. There's potential for Dolph vs Punk to have a similar match.

Though, yes, this is the second of January of 2012. We'll have our itbegins surprise, and it might be related to Punk, interfering with this match.

Opinions seem quite one sided here. I'll pose a few things.

- Ratings are down latey, and reports state that they are thinking about taking the belt off Punk as a result, and strongly considered doing it at the TLC PPV.

- What if they feel that Ziggler can be champ amongst Lauranitis screwing over Punk, the old people will watch to see Punk become champ against the odds.

- What if, 02/01/12 does occur, but it occurs and distracts Punk so that he loses to WWE title to Ziggler. What if Ziggler vs Orton (just an example) was the RAW title match, and WWE wants Jericho vs Punk non title at Wrestlemania?

I don't understand a lot of the posters here giving the match the "meh" treatment. No build? I personally don't give a flying fuck because Punk and Ziggler are my two favorites. Dolph not being an over-the-top name? Isn't that a good thing when you think about it? It's someone new getting a WWE title match. The IWC always complain about that yet when someone new does get a title shot.. He's not an "over-the-top" name?

Personally, I'm really looking forward to it. We all know Ziggler won't win the title but the WWE sure as hell want to make him look good. So it's probably gonna be a 15+ minute match with a clean finish. If there's anything that can make Ziggler look very good right now, it's giving the champ a run for his money and giving him a hard fought battle. Like I said Ziggler and Punk are my two favorites and I'm really looking forward to this match. Last time they face off there was an unfortunate botch, I think they can make up for that next week in an excellent match. The first WWE title match of 2012 can very well be one of the best matches of the year.

Ziggler was in a singles match with Bryan, held his own in a amazing match. When it became a tag match, he had another great showing. Ziggler wasn't the one who tapped out though, Swagger did. Ziggler just pinned Punk on Raw and the previous Raw his team may have lost, but Dolph wasn't the one who tapped. Ziggler looks really strong right now.

As for the question at hand. Am I excited? Hell yeah, Ziggler is the future of the WWE. I can't remember the last time he had a bad match. It has to be well over a year. This guy busts his ass....night in and night out. He deserves to be the world champion. I hope he doesn't win the title on Raw, but looks strong no matter what the outcome.

I want him to win the Rumble and cement his main event status for all his doubters who cannot see he's the best in-ring talent in the WWE. But I see him challenging Bryan.

If he won the WWE title who would he have to challenge him if Y2J is facing Punk. Kane and Cena are feuding. Miz is in a feud with R-Truth, Triple H is gonna feud with Taker.

He should win the match, but not the title. Win the Rumble and challenge Bryan, it what would be another phenomenal match, like on Smackdown this past Friday.

Let's face it, if these two were given a spot at the Royal Rumble instead of next week, I would have loved it.

Next week, this match is going to get interrupted by someone since Punk and Ziggler have no feud going on. If it was at the royal rumble, these two incredible workers could get the spotlight this match needs and they could put on a good clean match much like ziggler did with edge last year.

Besides, the royal rumble is usually the time to give younger upper-mid carders title shots to see if they can prove their worth so why not do it?

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Dolph Ziggler. Something about him just aggravates me. I mean he's one of the top wrestlers WWE has to offer, but I agree that he's not in the main event spotlight yet.

He's definitely not going to win next week on Raw. Like someone said before, last Smackdown he lost to Daniel Bryan, or, Swagger tapped out so they lost.

Personally I don't want to see CM Punk lose the title. I still think that Punk still out says everybody in the locker room, but I think since he's actually been Champion, they've been letting him get away with less and less, which really pisses me off. I think the reason they do that is they want the WWE or Heavyweight Champions to be "family friendly."

Back on topic, Ziggler will lose, he'll either with the Royal Rumble or the MITB Briefcase and then go for the gold and finally win it.

Are bears Catholic? Does the Pope shit in the woods?

Of course I'm looking forward to it. It's Ziggler vs. Punk! Two of the best wrestlers in the world, wrestling for the WWE title on live TV. If you're not looking forward to that, what's to look forward to in wrestling? Unless you just don't like Ziggler or Punk, that's cool. Weird, but cool.

My two favorites right now are Punk and Ziggler. To be honest Punk is losing a little steam as far as I am concerned so Ziggler is inching his way into my favorite spot every week. I think that this match will be great. They are both excellent wrestlers so I am really looking forward to it. I also think the "It Begins" return is going to take place during their match and certainly effect the outcome which makes this match even more appealing.

It should be a good match, I was happy to see Ziggler win yesterday and even if he doesn't win next week it should still be a good feud.

I don't see what's not to like personally. About a month ago, Punk & Ziggler put on a great match and I won't be at all surprised if this match is even better.

These two can flat out deliver inside the ring, they've shown it time and time again. I can't say I'm surprised, unfortunately, about the seemingly disapproving attitude some have about this upcoming match. In the nearly 3 years I've been posting in the forum, one of the biggest complaints I've heard regarding the WWE Championship scene has been a distinct lack of fresh faces involved. The WWE has introduced several noteworthy faces into the title picture over the past few years and Ziggler is just another of those fresh talents.

I don't expect Ziggler to win the title next week, but next week is yet another opportunity for Ziggler to shine. He's worked hard, scratched & clawed for every inch of ground he's gained in WWE and the WWE brass is impressed with not only that hard work, but the talent that Ziggler has displayed.

I think that this will be a great match and I am looking forward to it. It is a good idea to try to top the Miz VS Morrison match from last year. What better way to start off the wrestling year with a great match? This will help Ziggler break into the main event scene as well. He's been ready for quite a while. It should give the fans an idea of what is to come in the future when these two will inevitably have a lengthy feud. We probably won't be seeing it at Wrestlemania so this is a good opportunity to have them in a match. On the other side of the coin, if it ends up not living up to our expectations then it will have been on an episode of Raw rather than wasting a PPV spot on it. Very unlikely, but still possible. I honestly think it will top the Miz/Morrison match from last year due to Punk and Ziggler both havcing far superior skills in the ring compared to both Miz and Morrison. This will also help start a new tradition of beginning each year by putting on a PPV quality match on Raw to start off the year.
