Chris Paul to Lakers - Not Official?

The league owns and operates the Hornets. Obviously, they want to sell the team. Hard to make that happen when the best player is shipped off to LA.

Honestly this move would've been smart to trade him, because if he doesnt sign an extension you risk having him walk at the end of the season, much like LeBron James did. If If you were a potential buyer of a team, would you purchase team knowing that your biggest star could potentially bolt for free agency at end of season or trade now to see what could be got for this player? Nuggets traded Melo/Billups and after the trade played their best ball of the season, arguably playing better without Melo.

Exactly. Hornets made out well in the deal. Got two legit scorers in Martin and Scola as well as a young PG with potential in dragic, and a playoff tested big guy in Odom, plus a pick I believe. That's better than having CP3 and the team clouded in uncertainty.

Plus it screws over the Rockets, who have been stockpiling pieces to trade for a top 15 guy, and obviously the Lakers.

Stern and the NBA had claimed Demps had room to make any trade he wanted, but when some of the other owners started bitching and complaining, Stern caved. Just a complete and utter mess.

FUCK

My third in NBA Jam is gone? I gotta use Mourning and LJ for both halves? This won't do, some laggy bitch might only shoot threes

Eh, maybe Odom will be decent in a stealing slot that can block

BRING BACK THE SUPERSONICS fuck Oklahoma

Edit: Trade Nullified (Yahoo.com)

Wooo

Chris Paul is gone from New Orleans after this year regardless so all this did was cost the Hornets a chance at getting something in return and they got a pretty damn good amount in return. David Stern screwed over all three teams and every player that was involved in the deal.

I don't see why you're so pissy over this. You gotta be perfect with your drafting to have a shot at a real contender in the NBA as a small market.

That's true for the MLB and NHL in most cases as well. If small markets don't have strong minor league systems then they are fucked. Everything you are saying about the NBA minus the recent lockout is true with MLB and the NHL as well.

Before its all over with I still feel he will be in NY. Dan Gilbert was one of the owners nagging about the trade - yet he is the same idiot that let LeBron leave Cleveland for nothing.

The cash considerations they received make it easier to deal for Howard. Plus Odom made it clear he didn't want to be there after the first attempted trade failed.
Odom acted like a baby, good riddance. As for Howard, that deal doesn't seem like a sure thing as he has stated he wants to play along side Williams and is more interested in the Nets or maybe Knicks. Don't put any money down on that.

I don't overly like their chances of getting Howard but New Jersey is the only team that can offer as good a package as LA can. LA has Bynum, Gasol, the Mavs first round pick, and the cash considerations to take on Turkoglu's contract. The Nets have Brook Lopez, two first round picks, and the ability to take on Turkoglu's contract.

I doubt LA involves Gasol in that, they may have to in order to fit Howard in there but they don't need to. The Nets offered less to get him. Bynum, 2 first rounders and those cash considerations maybe enough to get Howard and Turkoglu assuming this fits on the financial end and LA still has their first rounder. The Nets may have an issue as they are being looked at for tampering. Still may want to move World peace as well.
