Chris Jericho’s Bold Statement And His Future With The WWE.

Now, I had a look around and couldn’t find any threads about this, which is very surprising really considering the subject matter at hand.

Now, Chris Jericho is right a lot of the time. At Fatal 4 Way, he hit the nail right on the head. I have been watching wrestling because of him and he is one of the few reasons that I continued to watch wrestling after it had outstayed its welcome over here in the UK. He was one of the best and most energetic performers that the WWE had and he still is. He had a tonne of charisma and is one of the most entertaining superstars on any of the WWE rosters. However, my mind jumps to last night and his very unexpected comment before the Evan Bourne match.

In case you missed it, Jericho announced that if he did a repeat performance of the result at Fatal 4 Way, in which he lost to Evan Bourne (the WWE’s latest flavour of the month), he would quit the WWE. I couldn’t help but casually shit my pants as he said that. His feud with Evan Bourne is moving in all the right directions as he attempts to get the young guy over. He did a brilliant job at Fatal 4 Way and although he beat Bourne on Raw, he still managed to get a brilliant showing out of him.

That being said, I am very worried about Jericho’s future with the WWE because of this. We all know that he has started his television career and whilst we are all unsure of how long it will last, we can be sure that he will be committed to it for sure. The real question is why he would raise a point like his resignation if there was nothing to it?

Do you think that Jericho is long for the WWE?

Personally, I don't like to think about the WWE without Jericho again but I think it is very likely to happen in the near future. I just can't escape the fact that he said that. Would the WWE throw us something like that and then not follow up on it? I doubt it. Very worrying.

I don't think that we are in danger of losing Chris Jericho from the WWE, and if it does happen, he'll come right back after his little game show is over. Like you said Jericho is hands down one of the best overall performers the WWE has and it would be a shame to see him leave the WWE on bad terms cause of a silly game show or whatever the reason is, if he does leave soon, have it be at a ppv so that he can have a helluva match w/Evan Bourne or someone, so he can at least go out in a way we all can appreciate.

I actually thought Y2J was gonna loose last night and be reintroduced as the RAW GM.

But, I don't think Y2J is going anywhere. I read earlier that Jericho said he would leave when he was ready, and he's not ready to leave yet.

I think your looking a little to far into this, Y2J has been on a few TV shows, and after this show he'll be back in full force.

I'm pretty sure he's just leaving so he can do his TV show. I believe it's only supposed to be on for 8 weeks or so, and I'm sure he'll be back after then.

Y2J isn't going anywhere just yet, and thank the wrestling gods for that. Yes, he's hosting a game show. So? WWE put it on their main page a day or two back, if I'm not mistaken. I doubt that they would promote a performer's non-WWE appearances if they felt that said performer was going to leave the company a short time later. While Jericho may not have been as upfront with management as he should have been, it winds up being irrelevant. In show business, you take any positive exposure you can get. The WWE is getting exposure on ABC because one of their guys is hosting a game show. Hell, if a couple of the ass clowns (couldn't resist) who watch Downfall tune into a Monday Night Raw because of Jericho, then the 'E' ought to be pretty pleased with the overall outcome.

Chris may miss some house shows, and possibly a Raw or two (although with the several live/taping sets coming up, he might not miss any Raw time), but I don't think he's heading anywhere where we would be deprived of witnessing the Best in the World at What he Does doing What he Does Best, and that's entertaining us.

I was never into Y2J in WCW or WWE but now i love him just admiration for me he's the best WWE has got/had in years i know people love HBK and Taker. Jericho though for me really does break his back to do everything to please everyone. I mean Taker is just too legendry he could never drop down to something liek US title hell maybe even IC. Jericho can his style is fantastic he does a bit of everything and he's added to his moveset he's moved with the times better than anyone.

Do i worry when he moves on and stops wrestling, no. He'll be missed like hell but he'll always be backstage involved, be it training, creative. I'm sure Jericho could find some .rough diamonds for the WWE in the future i can't wait.

The only reason I could see Chris Jericho leaving WWE would be to do that television show, so it wouldn't be very long he'd be gone either way.

Chris Jericho said some time ago he has no plans on retiring from WWE any time soon, he said something along the lines of 2-3 more years before considering retiring seeing as he can still go, and he can go well.

I think it was a great choice for Chris to say something like this, if WWE is truly gonna write him off WWE, it can't be because he gets injured, that wouldn't happen (because he never gets injured?) so the only way for it to function would be firing him, and then have him return afterwards.

And the only way I could see WWE firing him would be to loose to a "no name rookie" like Evan Bourne, which I am certain Chris Jericho at some point or another will end up calling him.

So to answer your question Dave, I do not think that Chris Jericho is gonna be leaving WWE for real for a decent amount of time, and I don't see why he would, he still has a lot of love for the business, he's said he's doing some of his greatest work right now, why quit when you're on the top and not a money hungry Batista?

Chris will be putting over a lot more talent before we see him going anywhere, and I would at least expect to see him put over Evan Bourne completely before leaving if he truly is near the end of his WWE tenure for now.

Agreed, I think by coming back after leaving the first time, he realized that it was something he wanted to keep doing. I figured when he came back that he would be in it for the long haul. The guy is just too good. He is in the top three on the mic right now, and is also one of the best in getting whatever the hell he wants out of the crowd. I would like to see a Jericho face turn. Bring back Steph and let the two of em go at it again. Jericho's comedy is brilliant.

Do you think that Jericho is long for the WWE?
I think he will be with the Fed until he decides his time has come. I for one am not looking for that day because I believe hes one of the best around and could help build up future talent. But when it does, I hope they write him off more like HBK and less like JBL. He means too much and has done too much to be done like that. but that is the opinion of a self admitted Jericholic.

Bro, everything that went through your mind, went through mine when he said he would quit. Especially since I've been reading on WZ that they want Jericho to head down a losing path in the event that they lose him to TV shows and whatnot, so they can write him off on a quitting storyline like Batista and JBL.

I totally shat myself when he said he was gonna quit and as Evan was going to the top rope for another Air Bourne... but as someone mentioned, my only shining hope was that Jericho said he feels he is in the greatest shape of his life, and that he is not burned out and enjoying what he does, and he's not ready to call it quits. I believe Jericho pulled that stunt just to get us riled up and to show us that he is indeed not going anywhere!

I believe Jericho still has another good 2-4 years with the company :D

You have some good points there, Dave. But here's my opinion:

Chris Jericho is a great wrestler, don't get me wrong. But I'm fearing more than anything that he starts turning into a Triple H. A few years back, Triple H was in a match with Chavo Guerrero and Triple H was tired by the end of the match. Not just because he's getting older and less ring-aware, but because the WWE are beginning to make laughing stocks out of their best superstars.

Triple H nearly got beat by Chavo Guerrero (and he was WWE Champion at the time, if my memory is right.) And Chris Jericho DID get beat by Evan Bourne at Fatal 4 Way. If the WWE were still in the Attitude Era or Attitude Entertainment (WWE 2003-2004) then nobody would be coming close to beating people like this. It's getting quite awkward to watch, just because there's a fear in the back of people's minds being: "Oh shit, wait a minute. Chris Jericho might lose."

That's just my opinion anyway.

Well, with Chris being the new host of Downfall, a live game show type of show would he choose to appear less?
If wwe wanted to push even bourne, have him beat Chris so much, he gets embarrassed and just leaves. Not sure what will happen, but i think jericho will be away from WWE a bit. As other threads say Jericho and taker at mania will happen, this can do it. After Undertaker returns, have jericho be responsible for his "attacker" and they face at mania.

Chris Jericho is the one guy in WWE that shouldn't be 'jobbing' as much as he is right now. I understand that he's just trying to put the younger guys over. That's his new role. I highly respect him for that, unlike some people. But, even if that's the case, he's doing it so much that I miss seeing him win. Okay, he gets the occasional victory and he has beaten the best, but I want to see some balance. It's also unpredictable whenever he's involved in a World Heavyweight Championship loop, because he still seems to be able to win that title. That's a good thing. This man has accomplished everything. I guess with that in mind, his last class act is to elevate the future. If he leaves the WWE, that's one major charismatic star gone and I do quite frankly remember that hiatus he took. It felt weird without Y2J.

You guys do realize there was a point to him saying that. They were working the IWC like they have been in many ways recently. All the Jericho losses, the backstage rumors and the game show, so let's get them to watch after the PPV to see if Jericho really is gone. If he really was going to leave for such reasons they would not come out and say it. Now will he eventually leave for such reasons? Most likely. But I do not think that is going to be happening too soon.

As much as I like to see some up and comers get shots, I am a HUGE Jericho-holic, and when he made the statement that if he lost to bourne he'd quit, I pretty much almost crapped myself. For someone like Jericho who admitted he burnt out before and realized what he loved about the biz, and if you ever read his book, you can see/imagine from his writing, the passion for this industry. To me, I see this as an insult that he is jobbing. That's basically what he is doing, and WWE does that to their tenured people it seems like. Look at Chavo, look at JBL towards the end of his run. Can we really say that with all Y2J's accomplishments even outside of the ring and his amazing skill and training in the Hart Dungeon that even the downfall of your career will also be spoken of just as much as your pinnacle. Even to this day, JBL's record loss and quitting after WM25 is still being talked about. I really do hope this is just one of those flash in the pan things, but hopefully this could be something that maybe may make him change his attitude, and make him a fan face again. Who knows? Although I still have my fingers cross each time he steps in that ring lately. :)

Do you know what I love most about Jericho?

His hair.

But after that? When he says something, he usually means it. Case in point: his recent talks about wanting to put over new talent. Tons of guys go on and on about wanting to "work with the young guys" and "get these boys over", and yet somehow that means watching Nash and Hall win tag titles in matches that don't involve any wrestling and filling up a C show with newer talent only to undercut most of them before they even have the chance to be noticed. Not Jericho, oh no. Jericho says he's going to put over new guys, and then promptly accomplishes what Cena couldn't do by simply sharing the spotlight; he's made an Evan Bourne match something I tune in specifically to watch. That's getting someone over. That's getting the new talent into the spotlight. And Jericho has throughout his career proven that you don't need to be protected in terms of booking to remain over. It doesn't matter if Jericho loses or not, really; his fan base is deep and broad enough that anything he does in the ring will have an audience that wishes to view it.

To tie this back into the OP, I don't think that Jericho will be done with the WWE anytime soon, even if he takes a break to work more on his other projects. This is just the nature of his career at this point; he's wise enough to realize he doesn't want to be remembered as that which he hated most back at WCW. He's come to terms with what his legacy will be in the industry. He's no longer interested in trying to remain at the top of the mountain. Wrestling is what he enjoys doing and it enables him to pursue other projects at his own pace. I will be very sad to see him go, and that's quite the understatement. However, I won't feel angry or robbed somehow by it, because it will likely be on his terms and it will be his decision. When it comes to a performer who is as selfless as Jericho, I couldn't ask for any more than that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jericho takes a little break after he is finished with his game show. The guy has done everything he can in wrestling, multiple time World Champion and tag champion.IC Champion and tones more. But do I think he is done with the company or wrestling in general, no.It will be a sad day when he hangs up his boots but Jericho still has alot to offer and can still go in the ring.Vince would not just let this man walk out the door if he thought that he still had something left.

If Jericho leaves the WWE, he will return again, and possibly, hopefully come back as Y2J!!, I would MTFO for that. But I don't think he will leave in the immediate future, and I too have loved his feud with Evan Bourne, he hasn't put a wrong foot forward. So, I am hoping that he will stay in the WWE, and Keep putting on great matches with Evan Bourne.

Chris Jericho is one of the WWE's most important talents. He has experience, ability and personality. He's been everywhere and done everything he needs to. He'll leave when the time is right for him. That's the bottom line. He'll leave when he feels the need too. He's said in the past that when he's ready to leave, he'll leave. Most recently he also said that he had a storyline in the works for the next few months. His contract expires shortly after the end of that storyline (apparently) and it will be decision time then. I personally feel he has a good 2-3 years left but that's what we all said about Shawn Michaels and look what happened there. WWE can (and will) survive without him but he will be a tremendous loss once he does leave (whenever that may be).
