Change It Up: 2003

In 2003, HHH held the title for nine months defeating the likes of Scott Steiner, Booker T, Kevin Nash, and Goldberg. During his reign, he beat Kane in a Mask vs. Title match and afterwards Kane removed his mask for the first time. Kane was at his most scariest and dominant since he first debuted. If I would change one thing, I would have Kane removed his mask earlier in the year.

There were a shortage of heels on RAW in 2003 especially in the main event. Basically it was only HHH and at the time you wanted him to lose the title. These days he gets bashed because of that long title reign because he "held" people back. When I look back, there wasn't really another big heel besides HHH and that was one of the main reasons he kept the belt for so long. Kane removed his mask in June, yet the only title shot he received was in Armageddon in December 2003.

Let's say one of Evolution's first major accomplishments was the de-masking of Kane. That would still give WWE time for the Kane/Shane feud and then they can move on. Imagine Booker T winning the title at Wrestlemania and then facing a pissed off Kane later on. Kane could have become the second biggest heel alongside HHH but yet they made Shane look like his equal and really lost momentum because of that. RVD or even Kevin Nash could have won the title if there was another heel. Goldberg did win the title at Unforgiven but he feuded mainly with Evolution and Kane came along for a while because he wanted a shot at the title.

So what would you change about the WWE in 2003? Give reasons why.

If I had a choice of changing anything in 2003 it would have been SummerSlam. I was never a fan of Goldberg, but he should have main evented SummerSlam with Triple H in a singles match. Goldberg and Triple H was a fresh feud between two big time names and was worthy of being the main event in the second biggest show of the year. I don’t care for gimmick matches at WrestleMania or SummerSlam. At least not the main event. The six guys in the elimination chamber should have been divided into three singles matches. Triple H vs. Goldberg, Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton, and Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Nash. I believe the chamber was put in because they didn’t have time for all those matches, but wanted to get everybody on the card. Because the chamber is so long two matches could have filled that time. Also a lot of time could have been shaved off Bischoff vs. Shane. I think this would have made for a much better show.

Also I would have given Sean O’haire a better chance. He had a great look and a great gimmick. He could have been a top heel. I don’t know why they pulled the plug on his character so quickly.

All ex WCW guys. Hmmm. The single biggest mistake was not letting Booker T go over at Mania. Booker at that point, was argueably the biggest and most over face in the company. He deserved it.

YES. I did a thread on this guy. His look and the promos he did were fucking sick. This guy had it, but for some reason, he got dropped.

I would also make Kane unmask sooner. Kane was as big...if not bigger then when he first came on to the scene as Kane. When he went apeshit people were eating it up. It would of been great to have Kane as a monster heel for the whole year. It would have potentially created more feuds and opened up more oportunities for other wrestlers.

I personally think it would have been crazy if Booker T went over Triple H at Wrestlemania. Unfortunately I don't believe it would happen as he is an ex-WCW guy and they are not going to let them go over for the belt at 'Mania.

I also believe if 2003 were to change....Booker T could become the champion....and Kane could win it from him...and then RVD ... who could still be trying to get Kane to realize no one is laughing at him trying to "tame him" so to speak could end up feuding with him after Kane kicks the shit out of him a few times on Raw.

Man if things changed that would have been a sweet year.
