Champions at the Start of 2013

On January 1st, 2013, who will be the WWE, World Heavyweight, TNA, and Ring of Honor champions, respectively?

If you don't feel knowledgeable enough about one of the promotions involved, feel free to leave one of them out. The question is simple - at the beginning of next year (or the end of this, either way), who will hold the most important titles in wrestling?

WWE - Dolph Ziggler. I can't help but get the feeling that Ziggler's in for big things in 2012. I also think we'll see Raw dominated by heel in 2012. I think Cena will take on a more HHH type of role and not hold the WWE Championship much, and Punk will move to SmackDown. I figure Ziggler is the perfect man to hold the WWE Championship and defend against some rising faces. This is contingent on Cena remaining a face, however. If Cena turns in 2012, then I can't imagine another heel making the leap to world champion on Raw.

World - CM Punk. I think it's almost a lock that Punk moves to SmackDown in the draft and becomes the new face of the SmackDown roster. I imagine SmackDown's 2012 roster will see Punk, Orton, and Bryan as the leading faces with Rhodes, del Rio, and Christian as the top heels. Orton and Bryan probably won't see much title action, methinks, leaving Punk to trade the title with Rhodes and del Rio, more than likely. I expect the WWE to give Punk title stature on the level of Orton and Cena and probably carry it into WrestleMania 29, so expect him to close the year with the belt.

TNA - Kurt Angle. It's hard for me to call this one so far out because I haven't got a good handle on TNA long term, but what I do know is that the company loves to put the title on Angle every now and then to reset the direction of the world title picture. Furthermore, TNA likes to reset the world title picture about once every year or so. I think it's a fairly safe bet to expect that Angle, barring injury, might have the strap this time next year.

ROH - Chris Hero. I figure on Davey Richards holding onto his title for quite a while, probably a year at least. But he will lose it in the second half of 2012, I believe. Meanwhile, I don't think TNA is going to bite on Chris Hero, seeing as how Nigel McGuinness fell apart for them. Not that that's really a justified decision, but nonetheless. Even further, ROH has time and time again managed to fuck up who should be champion, and when. All of these factors create the perfect storm for Chris Hero to be world champion. Who should be? Kevin Steen, of course. Steen should win it as soon as possible. Steen should win on the first show of 2012. He won't, though. He probably won't all year, and get it sometime in the middle of 2013 when he's lost half of the interest. So, after Richards has inexplicably retained against Steen, Hero will enter the picture, probably as a tweener, and take the title off of Richards in the second half of 2012, carrying it through the end of the year.

That's what I've got. Tell me why I'm wrong and offer your own predictions.

I think Crimson will probably be the TNA World Champion a year from now. TNA is intent on pushing him, which is why they put him in the tag team with Morgan to try and get him over. I see Bobby Roode dropping the title to James Storm at Lockdown, with Bully Ray getting a run as a transitional champion before dropping it to BFG Series '12 winner Crimson. Morgan turns heel and feuds with Crimson into 2013, but fails to win the title. Crimson ends up having the longest title reign in TNA history before his undefeated streak is finally broken.

I think its realistic to assume that John Cena and CM Punk will hold the titles in WWE a year from now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cena go heel sometime this year and for WWE to build up heel Cena VS face Orton at Wrestlemania 29. Cena will get his belt back sooner or later and CM Punk probably gets the other belt and feuds with Daniel Bryan for a few months in 2012.

I think Davey Richards will probably still be RoH Champion a year from now. Richards is basically the perfect champion for RoH as he exemplifies their current direction more than anybody else.

Oh sweet Jesus! I have a hard enough time predicting who is going to be the TNA champion a week from now, and they have spoilers two weeks in advance! January 1st is usually a more hectic period. Right before Mania begins is usually the last chance WWE has to experiment with things going into the big season, and who really knows what's going to happen with Ring of Honor? I mean, if anybody in the forums predicted last year that right now the titles would belong to Bobby Roode, CM Punk, DANIEL BRYAN, and Davey Richards I would probably have thought you were completely insane. But I guess I'll give it a shot, and I'm going to even go a bit deeper and make predictions on all the belts, just because I can! I'll give CoCo $100 if I'm right on all of them...

Ring of Honor
World Heavyweight Champion: Roderick Strong
TV Champion: Kyle O'Reilly
Tag Team Champions: ANX

TNA
World Heavyweight Champion: AJ Styles
TV CHampion: Title likely won't exist... Abyss?
Tag Team Champions: MCMG
X-Division Champion: Austin Aires

WWE
WWE Champion: CM Punk
World Heavyweight Champion: R-Truth (I know, long shot...)
Tag Team Champions: This is impossible... The Usos?
US Champion: Joe Hennig
IC Champion: Cody Rhodes (pretty please...?)
Women's Champion: Kharma

WWE hmmm im gonna go with john cena hes really the only person who is a safe bet to stay on raw through every draft and it will be on the road to wrestlemania meaning his odds of being champion are up but he could also just as well not be champion and if hes not and its a heel....ill go with miz or ziggler

World this one is tough to predict (none are easy) but ill say cm punk i think hes moving to smackdown in the next draft and hes always a good champion imo so i hope at the start of 2013 hes the world heavyweight champion.

TNA oh god the toughest one yet to predict theres the guys already main event like roode, angle, sting (at any time),james storm and jeff hardy who could be champ and then theres guys like anderson and RVD who are mid carders but can be step up to main event level at any time but im gonna go with jeff hardy hulk hogan loves him :banghead:

It's tough with the WWE belts given the draft possibilities, but making my best wager I'd say...

WWE- CM Punk. I don't think he will hold the belt the enitre year, but by year's end I expect to see it back around his waste.

World- Wade Barret. Given the way Barrett is being pushed, World Champ by the end of 2012 seems about right- if they're patient enough to hold off that long. (Out-of-left-field-Darkhorse for either WWE belt: Zach Ryder)

As for TNA I will say it is likely to be Jeff Hardy. After Storm eventually comes out the victor in his prolonged title feud with Roode a different heel will have to emerge to challenge him for the belt, I could see that guy (Angle or Bully Ray maybe?) winning the belt only to drop it to Jeff. Hardy is the company's top draw, if he keeps his nose clean another title reign is inevitable. (Out-of-left-field-Darkhorse: Austin Aries)

And the ROH champ almost has to be Kevin Steen... It may take him a whole year of trying to get the title off of Richards, but I see him finally gaining the gold at Final Battle 2012. (Out-of-left-field-Darkhorse: Micheal Elgin)
